Whether you’re being celebrated or you’re honoring another special woman in your life this Mother’s Day, it’s time to think about what you’ll wear. I’ve always preferred a low-key weekend for Mother’s Day, one that’s both restful and filled with joy. I’ve teamed up with Talbots today to share with you a few Mother’s Day outfit ideas for women of any age, and we’ve got the whole weekend covered!

An Easy-Breezy Dress for Mother’s Day Brunch
This Mother’s Day you get to set the tone for the celebration – whatever you choose that to be. Show up for your day in these soft but vibrant selections from the Talbots May collection and you’ll look and feel like a warm ray of sunshine. Right now use code MOM at Talbots to get 40% off one item and you’ll get 30% off the rest of your order.

This cheerful linen shift dress is in the most beautiful camellia rose. And the 100% linen fabric is soft and breathable, keeping me cool and fresh for family outings or a solitary stroll. The dress fits true to size. Of course I know so many of my readers enjoy shopping Talbots for their wide range of sizes, and true to form linen shift dress comes in misses and petite sizes. But it is selling fast!

Accessorize your simple linen shift dress with raffia hoop earrings and a wide cuff bracelet that you’ll see me wear with all three outfits. I’m also carrying a metallic leather trim straw tote and wearing sunglasses (excluded from promotions) from Talbots. By the way, that straw tote does feature pockets and a zipper closure.

My espadrille slides fit true to size, but they do run just a bit narrow. I’m wearing my true 9.5, but if you have a wide foot I’d probably opt for something else here. They also come in white and black. They’re available in sizes and half sizes 5 to 11.

Whether you’re joining family for a picnic or you’re meeting other moms for an afternoon ice cream, you’ll feel pretty and feminine in this spring frock.
Linen Shorts and a Summer Sweater for Mother’s Day Afternoon
Another pretty option for Mother’s Day (and beyond!) is a linen shorts and summer sweater combo. I’m a big believer in investing in a pretty summer-weight sweater for the season.

This pretty jacquard crewneck pullover features a couple of palm trees outlined in that same camellia rose against a 100% cotton coral sand background.

The pullover is super soft and luxurious feeling on the skin. I think the weight is just right for cool spring mornings and evenings. And it’s the kind of sweater you can carry confidently on summer vacations, too. It’s available in misses, petite and plus sizes.

Nothing looks as crisp and fresh for summer as white shorts. These white stretch linen utility shorts are a 70% cotton, 27% linen and 3% Spandex blend for true comfort, breathability and ease of movement.

The shorts fit true to size for a slightly roomy fit; I’m wearing my usual 10, but I’ve been losing weight, so that may be why they’re roomy. I prefer white shorts to not be tight, at any rate. They come in misses and petite sizes from 2 to 18, and they’re also available in cool beige and olive green.

I love the juxtaposition of wearing a summer sweater with shorts. On this slightly cool and breezy day the combination felt absolutely perfect for a day in the park with family. But of course you could wear this cheerful pullover sweater with longer white pants or even the jeans below.
Light Wash Jeans & a Cheerful Shirt for the Evening
For the blue jean mama I selected a pair of modern light wash relaxed trouser jeans. Combined with the soft vibrant paisley in this button-up shirt, these jeans give me all the cool mom vibes.

The jeans hit mid rise, a little lower than a true high rise. But they are still a comfortable fit. They come in misses, petite, plus and plus petite sizes. I’m wearing a misses 10 and they hit just at the top of my foot with a soft bend. Remember, I’m 5’8″. I don’t need a heel with these at all, but they’ll look great with sandals and sneakers this spring and summer.

I’m wearing a size medium raffia buckle leather belt with my jeans, and it just fits. Of course with a higher rise jean the belt would feel more generous. Still I’d say to go with your true size. It will be fun to wear with jeans and white shorts and pants, as well as skirts.

I chose to drape the jacquard pullover sweater over my shoulders for a little interest. I love the vibe. Still I meant to get a photo without the sweater. Of course, you can probably tell that the outfit is quite complete and pulled together even without it.

With all of these mix and match possibilities, you could easily wear all of these Mother’s Day weekend outfit ideas over the course of the celebration. Talbots has so many similar outfit possibilities in lovely colors of the season. You can check out their full offerings HERE.

Blessed for My Day
I don’t like confrontations. I bet you don’t either. But there certainly are times when we have to have hard discussions in order to move forward, avoid further conflict and grow in relationships.
If you need to confront someone about a wrong behavior, a misunderstanding, words spoken out of turn or a change in course, you can lean into Christ’s example. Over and over He leveled truth at His followers, but always in love. Grace and Truth. What an amazing combination! Ask the Lord to help you speak the truth, but always in love.
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. ~ Ephesians 4:15

Hi Kay, I read several reviews on the Talbots linen shift dress that reported it was very sheer, see through, and one would need a slip. Did you find this to be the case? Thanks!
Not at all. I actually do have on a slip because I’d worn one to church under a different dress. But I don’t see any need to wear one if you don’t want to. I don’t think it’s sheer.
That button up blouse?? Beautiful! Looks great in you. And the sweater is a really nice addition.
Good morning Kay, great post today, I’m a Talbots loyalist, been wearing their clothes for years. The linen dress you modeled looks so cool & comfortable.
Have a lovely day,
Pat
Such pretty outfits!
The linen dress is beautiful on you! It’s lovely to see some of Talbots spring looks. I especially like the sweater over the shoulders look. Have a wonderful day!
Love these summer colors so pretty! You look so good in all of them. Thank you for the variety of the selection.
Kay,
Good Morning! You look more youthful than ever. Really lovely. I think maybe you feel more DFMD if you’ve lost a few pounds and your straight hairstyle. You look great in everything, but I can’t wear long wide pants as I appear heavier. Thanks so much for sharing. I enjoy your blog daily and your scripture and devotion.
This “thank you” is a long time coming. So, thank you for directing us to jeans that are a relaxed fit from the bum. For many of us, our rears are no longer ones to be shown off. Tight jeans used to be my answer to the girdle, but now-a-days, the basic shape just isn’t there anymore and I find it better styled with the relaxed fit. The jeans you show here, and in the widgets, are doing just that. I now have a nice wardrobe of well-fitting jeans thanks to you.
Ahh, you’re so welcome. Transitioning to these more relaxed fits has been a challenge for many of us. But I agree that once we learn to style them they are very flattering and can be a great choice for many of us. 🩷
Lovely spring outfits. Looked like it was a beautiful day for your photo shoot.
I like the belt. It would match my raffia block sandals that have cognac trim. The outfits all look nice on you.
Love all the looks.
Kay, thank you for sharing Talbots pieces! I’ve lived Talbots since my early 20s. I’ve always found their clothing to be happy-looking and classic with a modern twist.
I so appreciate your posts, Kay. I almost always come away with a helpful nugget, whether it’s related to style or in feeling blessed for my day. Thank you for your guidance, your sincerity, and for being genuine.
I was not a Talbot fan until your post.
The linen dress is beautiful! The other items are also quite nice – there really is something for everyone at Talbot’s. And yes, I don’t like confrontation either!
Kay, you are rocking that pink dress! I clicked on the link to see if it’s available in different colors. It’s not, and I can’t wear pink (I’m a redhead). I read your blog every day because it’s spot on for my tastes. I’m 59 and want to keep a fresh, modern look, too.
I received my Talbots jeans you wore in this blog today. They fit perfectly and are so flattering! I also ordered the linen dress from Talbots and can’t wait until it comes!
Love these outfits!
Kay, you’ve inspired me to wear pink! Love how you show it with white, denim, casual, formal. It looks great on you, and though I don’t have your same coloring, I think it works for me also. But mostly, it makes me feel happy! My 9 year old granddaughter is a pink lover, so I’ve gotten inspiration from her also! Thanks for all the positive you put out into the world every day.
Talbots is one of my favorite stores to shop at. I like the hot pink shift. Maybe I’ll swing by and try that on next time I’m in the city. I have a wedding of one of my grandson’s coming up in June so might get a new outfit or two for that. Thanks.

The sweater with the palm trees is so cute and pretty color!
I recently purchased those Talbots trouser jeans in the light wash and received three complements the first day I wore them – two from my own family! I’m so happy with them! 😊
