I love wearing linen in the warmer months. And a white, linen skirt is such a stylish wardrobe staple. Truly, there are endless ways to wear such a classic throughout spring and summer. But today I’m teaming up with Talbots to share how to style a linen skirt three ways. And pssst! Right now Talbots is having their Spring in Bloom event, so you’ll get 30% off your entire purchase.

Styling a Linen Skirt for a Very Casual Day

Because it is so on trend to pair stylish sneakers with your dresses and skirts right now, I took advantage of the fact and styled a linen skirt for a very casual day. I’d envision wearing this outfit for an adventurous day out with the grandkids, a lunchtime walk with friends from the office or a leisurely stroll through antique shops in a favorite small town.

Throughout this post I’m wearing the Talbots linen trouser skirt. It’s also available in navy. Both skirts come in a full range of sizes in misses, petite and plus. My white linen trouser skirt is also available in plus petite. I love that I can highly recommend Talbots because they carry a wide range of sizes and fits. I’m wearing my usual size 10, but it is a little roomy on me. I didn’t opt to go down because the last thing I want to wear is a tight white skirt, but maybe I should have tried it.

The linen trouser skirt (also in navy) is 100% linen and is lined in 100% cotton. I know that so many of my readers prefer a cotton lining, so you will be very pleased with this one. The quality is really nice. It does feature deep side slits, a zipper and button/fastener closure and front welt pockets, as well as belt loops. Regrettably, I did not order a top that I could tuck in. I think the midi length skirt will perhaps look its very best with a pretty tee or button-up shirt tucked in and belted.

For this casual outfit I styled the linen skirt with a textured tie front top. This 95% cotton pink front tie top comes in white and three other equally cheerful colors. It’s cool and easy-breezy. Talbots also has a similar tie front top in stripes. I think these are really fun options for casual summer days. And you can tuck the ties in. I just left them out so you could see the full effect of the top.

For my next look I styled the linen trouser skirt for a lady’s event, such as a baby shower, bridal brunch, women’s tea or birthday party.

lace pointelle tank (sized down to small) // lace pointelle cardigan (sized down to small) // linen trouser skirt // suede block heel // necklace // earrings

Here I paired the linen trouser skirt with a lace pointelle tank and coordinating lace pointelle cardigan. I noticed a few negative reviews online about this cardigan, but from what I could tell the purchasers had simply not understood what they were ordering. This is indeed a very lightweight, filmy cardigan by design. It’s not meant to be substantial, but instead ultra feminine and floaty. It’s the ideal topper for a warm day.

The tank and coordinating cardigan both come in white and indigo blue, too. And Talbots has them in a full range of sizes for misses, petite, plus and plus petite. However, I did find both pieces to run quite large. I sized down to a small in both for a much better fit.

Here I’ve worn the Cayden suede block heel sandals. These classy sandals have a 2″ heel and a squared toe. The block heel sandals are surprisingly comfortable with a memory foam footbed and a flexible outsole for improved stability. I don’t generally like a strap across the front of my ankle, but because these are in a soft nude that works well with my skin tone, I feel like they look really pretty. They run true to size.

And my final way to style a linen skirt for spring and summer is a classic outfit that works for so many settings, including a casual office. But I’d also wear this combination to lunch with friends or even church.

Here I’ve worn a pointelle stitch polo sweater in Neptune green. It’s also available in four other colors and white. You could wear a camisole or tank under the loose stitch sweater, but I really don’t find a need for that personally. With a flesh toned bra I think the pointelle stitch polo sweater looks discreet enough and fits nicely.

I love the Johnny collar on this sweater. And the ribbed waistband and sleeve cuffs add a nice detail. I’ll be able to wear it with so many other things in my closet, too.

For this “anywhere, anytime” outfit, I wore my new Havana tan Kaia vachetta leather demi wedge sandals. They’re also available in indigo blue. The luxe vachetta leather and memory foam footbed with extra padding in the heel and arches make this sandal very comfortable. And it stays on my foot nicely as I walk. The leather demi wedge sandals fit true to size and come in full and half sizes from 5 to 11.

I do regret not styling this pretty linen trouser skirt with a top I could tuck in and belt. You know me and how much I love to style my clothes that way. So I’m sure I’ll be wearing it with fun tees and button-up shirts through the summer. And I think this belt would look great with the skirt.

Don’t forget to check out the other beautiful spring fashions and especially the Linen Shop at Talbots during their Spring in Bloom event. You’ll get 30% off your entire purchase. Thanks so much for dropping in for a little linen style inspiration!

Blessed for My Day

I think one of the reasons we sometimes struggle with fear and anxiety is because we feel out of control. Yes, I guess I do indeed have control issues. I like to feel like I’ve got a firm grasp on things. And when I really don’t have any control (and that’s pretty often!), I sometimes act out of my anxiety and frustration.

When Jesus was born into the world, the Jewish people were very much in a state of overwhelm and fear. Truly, their lives were not under their control. They were at the mercy of a wicked and harsh government that treated them with malice and no pity. That’s one of the reasons why people were so drawn to Jesus when He began to teach them. Not only did He share wisdom and life-giving messages, but He spoke as one in authority. And His authority gave them assurance, courage and peace. If you will read Jesus’ words today, they will do the same for you.

and they were amazed at His teaching, because His message was delivered with authority. ~ Luke 4:32

  1. I want to 2nd your shout-out to Talbots for inclusive sizing. I’m very short and very plump. But I find plenty to fit me at Talbots.

  2. I like the tank and cardigan look the best. Looks really put together and not as casual as the other looks. Nothing wrong with the look but a little too casual for me. I have an off-white linen skirt from last year that is shorter, that I can wear in the same manner with the sweater set. I Enjoyed the BFMD. Glad you and your daughter are all right with the tornado warning around you. last night.

  3. The Blue Ice tank and cardigan look so pretty on you. Love that color! Did you remember to ask the lady who does your nails what color that polish is?

  4. Hi Kay! I love the open weave sweater in the green. It will go great with my denim skirt. Thanks for showing us these great Talbot combinations. The tie waist top is cute also. Love the length of both tops. I am 5’4 and in between regular and petite in tops most places. Happy that Talbots is offering some shorter length tops that work for me! Appreciate you and this blog. I check-in daily.

  5. Kay, thank you for all your hard work you do for us. I hope you and your family will be safe from the tornadoes and flooding that is forecast for areas you may be in. You’re in my prayers.

  6. I like the pink tie top and the Neptune Green Johnny collar sweater. They’re both really cute! I went to the Easy Spirit site and picked out a couple pairs of shoes but it wouldn’t let me use your KAY20 code on top of the 30% discount they have.

  7. These looks are so springy and pretty. I like all the tops and think the tie front shirt would be a workhorse in my spring-to-summer wardrobe.
I’m not a fan of the skirt length. The pictures of you sitting down show the skirt hitting the ground (or near to ground), which is going to dirty it pretty quickly. Also, the length is not that attractive for us petite ladies. Talbots has other items that are more practical.

    1. I agree with you regarding the skirt length. The styling ideas are great, but I feel that a length just at or above the knee would be much more flattering, especially with a flat shoe or sandal. But to each her own!

    2. I must say that I have purchased this skirt and really like the length. I am just under 5’2” and wear a Petite size 8. I think the key is to order the Petite sizes so you get the best proportions.

  8. So glad you and your daughter are safe Kay! What an unfortunate experience. I’ve never been into crocheted/knit tops ( I always run hot and I guess I just figured they would be too hot to where for me) and just a few weeks ago started looking at them thinking I just might try one this season/year for the first time and here you are! Giving us some great options. Considering I am a black and white girl, I too am loving the vibrant happy colors for the spring. They just seem to bring in that happiness boost that I feel I’ve been needing lately.

  9. Kay you looked so pretty in all of the spring colors and clothes! Thank you for all the the fit information on sizing. I think I need to go shopping

  10. Good morning Kay, I hope you are enjoying the retreat with your daughter. I looked at the ice blue sweater set and might have purchased, had my size been in stock. I agree it’s the perfect summer topper.

  11. Does everyone remember the “Twin Sets”? This seems to be a “new” trend…. again. So, Kay, is this true? Should we be looking for and matching up tops and sweaters? I must say, I do like that combo, but I remember a few years back that matchy-matchy was not the done thing.

  12. Your outfit with the tank and sweater is my favorite. I also think it would look nice styled with a T-shirt tucked in. Enjoy your conference and the time with your daughter.

  13. Hi Kay
Your BFMD really resonated with me today as I do experience anxiety upon occasion.
I also wanted to share that I purchased a pretty cotton printed skirt from Talbots earlier in the year that I’m looking forward to wearing this spring and summer.

  14. I like the white skirt with the polo sweater best. Also the suede block sandals are so cute. Love the devotional message. I can relate.

  15. Thanks so much for this blog on styling a linen skirt.I needed some ideas. Love the tie shirts! Have a wonderful time with your girl. Stay safe with this ever changing Spring weather

  16. I also love that Talbots has such a great selection in all sizes. I’m quite petite, but I can always find stylish clothing that fits at Talbots. I like that pointelle polo, especially the johnny collar vs having buttons.

  17. Glad your daughter and you are safe!
I like all the ways you styled this versatile piece of clothing. All the tops looked beautiful, and I like variety of shoe options.

  18. Hi Kay! I have already purchased this wonderful linen skirt in white and I topped it with Talbots Charming Shell and Cardigan (in a bright pink color, it may be called Tropical Punch). I can tuck the tank in which gives definition to the waist. I also have a white linen jacket that makes the whole outfit look more like a suit, but I’m on the fence about wearing that much white, we’ll see!

    1. Also, I am in between sizes and always order two sizes. Even though the smaller size “fit” me, I opted for the bigger size for the same reason you stated, I didn’t want to be wearing a tight white skirt. It looks fine!

  19. What a pretty skirt! I would get it in navy for myself, however, as I am not good with keeping white clean! Love the johnny-collar top the most with it.

  20. I love all of the tops that you showed us. The spring colors are adorable. I love shopping at Talbots.I will pass on the white skirt. Old Navy also has a good selection of midi skirts. I’m seeing more and more women in the 50 and above ages shopping at Old Navy. They have a good selection of sizes, including petite sizes and lengths.

  21. I enjoyed your blog today featuring white linen. What pretty outfits! I enjoy wearing linen especially in the summer to stay cool. I have a few linen blazers from Talbots that I’m looking forward to wearing this spring. Have a wonderful day!

  22. You are right …Tucking your top would create the best silloutte for this versatile skirt. But you have shown us some beautiful separates for this next season.

  23. I know this post is from a few weeks ago, but thank you for sharing this linen skirt! It would not have been on my radar, but I love it and it suits my casual lifestyle. I purchased the skirt in Navy, as well as the tie-front shirt you shared. I bought it in purple, and the two shades look so springy together! I’ve been following your blog for many years and enjoy all that you share.
