I’m frequently asked for suggestions about what to wear to specific events or occasions. And at this time of year one of the most repeated requests I get is for outfit ideas for outdoor dining, performances and events. Whether you’re attending a graduation, browsing an outdoor art festival, dining alfresco or sitting under the evening sky for a performance of Shakespeare, a pretty linen dress could be just the ticket.

My Annora linen dress from J.McLaughlin is one I will definitely wear to outdoor events this spring and summer. It’s a lovely, flowy, lightweight linen dress with bubble sleeves, a subtly define waistline and buttons the entire front length of the dress. It checks two more important boxes because it has pockets and it’s fully lined with a lightweight cotton.
The Annora linen dress runs true to size (I’m wearing a medium) and it comes in sizes XS to XL. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Florida Everglades, 15% of proceeds from the purchase of this dress will benefit The Everglades Foundation. Cool.
I’ve worn the dress with heeled sandals from Veronica Beard in the first photos, but I’ve also styled it with my flat Tory Burch Miller sandals. It’s super versatile. I wouldn’t even hesitate to wear sneakers if you prefer.
For outdoor events and occasions, I prefer to keep my jewelry simple and fine. With the potential for humidity and glistening (aka perspiration), I think it’s smart to wear some of the few pieces of fine jewelry I own. I’ve started my collection with these two beautiful pieces from Penelope Jewelry. I’m wearing the dainty, glistening Arabella diamond chain necklace (c/o) with my Maya hoop earrings (c/o). The owner of Penelope and creator of this beautiful 14k gold jewelry, Rachel, has graciously given us a coupon code for 20% off your purchase at Penelope. Just use code KAY20 at checkout.
Just in case there’s a chill in the air at some point, I always suggest carrying along a pretty wrap. This time I carried a cashmere wrap, but a pretty gauze or linen wrap can be a good choice, too.
Thanks so much for stopping in today. I’ve created a shopping widget below with more pretty linen dresses. I’ve also included some others in cotton, too. These are such great dresses for outdoor events and occasions.

We may think that being a “people pleaser” is a noble thing, but in fact bending over backwards to please people can trip us up. God calls us to listen to His voice above others. He beckons us to lean in daily and get our marching orders from Him alone. If we are prone to people-pleasing we will not be able to do some of the harder things God calls us to.
Have you ever been accused of being a people-pleaser? This is no small thing. Take those comments to the Lord and ask Him to examine your heart. Allow Him to shine light on your motives by spending diligent time in His Word and listening for God’s voice. Seek to be a woman who listens to her Master’s voice above all others.
Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have violated the command of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and listened to their voice. ~ 1 Samuel 15:24
Beautiful dress-I like how the red wrap picks up on the red in the dress.
