How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Last Friday I took an early morning flight from Cincinnati to Atlanta, and I’ve been spending the week with my parents. Today I’m sharing most of what I packed and how I’ve been getting dressed for my day during this week with family and friends. Let’s see what I wore for the last official week of spring.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore to Travel to Georgia Friday

Friday was hot and I wanted to be comfortable for my flight as well as my drive from the airport to my daughter’s home and then on to my parents’. I had my Athleta Endless highrise pants ready to go. But at the last minute I opted instead to wear my Brochu Walker Havana dress. It proved to be the right choice.

I still wore sneakers, so I felt comfortable and travel worthy in this smart 65% Polyester/35% Cotton dress. If you ever feel this fabric you immediately understand why it makes such a good travel dress. It looks polished, but feels cool to the touch and easy-breezy. I washed it just yesterday and it comes out of the washing machine perfect and ready to wear again.

Saturday’s Outfit

I was able to see my granddaughter and her parents briefly Friday before the three of them headed to the lake for the weekend. Saturday I just had a lazy day with my parents. I helped mom cook a good dinner and we played a card game. Otherwise we just enjoyed visiting.

For this easy day at home I chose to wear my navy linen wide leg ankle pants with a soft, cool polo shirt. I completed my simple look with sandals and a little jewelry.

What I Wore to Church & Lunch Sunday

Sunday morning we went to church and then out to a favorite restaurant for lunch. I felt comfortable, cool and appropriately dressed in my ivory textured pull-on midi skirt and coordinating cowlneck top.

I completed the elegant but simple duo with my sheer jelly sandals and a little jewelry (listed above). I carried my new Parisa Wang Grace top handle bag, which I absolutely love. This bag features the most supple, soft leather and it has ample room and compartments for my multiple pairs of glasses, phone, card case, lipstick and more. You can use code KAY12 for 12% off at Parisa Wang.

I thought you might enjoy seeing a photo of me with my beautiful mom. She’s 90 and has always been my style icon.

How I Dressed for Sunday Afternoon

Sunday afternoon when we returned home from lunch I changed clothes and headed to J.Jill to get photos for Tuesday’s try-on session. It was warm outside, so I kept cool in another pair of linen wide leg ankle pants and a soft V-neck tee.

I love pairing red with turquoise, so I thought this combination felt fresh and pretty for an easy afternoon. I pulled the look together with my beautiful Lizzie Fortunato necklace. It appears my exact necklace is no longer available, but they have several others that would work here, too. And they do have so many other beautiful options worth looking through.

What I Wore Monday for a Day with Family

Monday my daughter and granddaughter came over for the day. We had an easy day planned, so I put on the simple shift dress I’d purchased at J.Jill the day before.

This dress is silky soft and so comfortable. The colors are so much prettier in person, too. I often size down to a small at J.Jill, but for this dress I opted for the looser fit of the medium.

We did go to the pool that morning, but my granddaughter never would get in the water. I guess it just wasn’t the day for that, lol! She usually loves to swim. But Abigail and I swam for a while and then we all headed home for a lunch of Chicken Salad Chick followed by rest time. Sweet summer day!

How I Dressed for My Day Tuesday

Tuesday I worked from my parents’ glassed in back porch, where I always set up office when I visit, and then headed out for my Evereve try-on session. I would get that done and then head to my daughter’s home for the rest of the day.

shirt // jacket // seersucker pants // shoes // bag // necklace c/o // necklace (more economical selection)

It was rainy so I wanted to wear my sneakers. I wanted to look smart, but feel comfortable enough to sit on the floor with my granddaughter. So I chose to wear my seersucker pants with my dark blue stretch rib crewneck tee. I topped the tee with my Skyline chore jacket most of the day, since it was a bit cool. My mom loved this jacket and ordered it in black. It’s already arrived and she is so pleased with how it looks polished but feels comfortable and cool to the touch. It’s substantial, but not too warm.

How I Dressed for My Day Wednesday

Wednesday I met up with two dear friends from my youth for a long lunch. I’ve known one of them since elementary school and the other since middle school. We also went to college together and lived in the same dorm for a while. It was so good to spend time with women with whom I have a history. You know?

I felt smart but appropriately casual in my cotton skirt and ecru muscle tee. The skirt has a black stripe and a cognac one, so the cognac Tory Burch Miller sandals work beautifully with it. My cognac Hobo bag rounded out the outfit nicely.

What I Wore Thursday

And that brings us to Thursday. I worked from my parents’ home in the morning and took a brisk walk. Daddy was playing golf with a friend, so mom and I got dressed up just a tad and went out for a “ladies lunch.”

shirt // skirt (sized down to small) // sandals // bag // earrings c/o // necklace (more economical selection) // necklace c/o // sunglasses

I wish I’d gotten a photo with mom. She looked beautiful. But we didn’t have anyone around to take one at this point. And it was pouring buckets when we were going in and out of the restaurant. I felt pretty and set for the day in my Eileen Fisher textured skirt and ribbed tee. I completed this outfit with my gold Naot Dorith sandals, which were perfect for navigating the rain puddles.

So that’s how I’ve dressed for my week visiting my family. This weekend the fun continues as James arrives tomorrow. Saturday we’ll celebrate Father’s Day with my dad, my brother, my son-in-law, my nephew and other members of our family. Then Sunday we’ll go to church with my daughter and her family.

Thanks so much for dropping in. Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day

Being a father is a big job, especially if it’s done right. I suppose we all yearn for a good father who loves us unconditionally, spends time with us, affirms us but also teaches us how to live well. And the Bible certainly lays it out very clearly that dads are supposed to do those very things for their children, helping them to grow in the Lord and maturity.

But whether your father was the perfect dad or not, I hope you know that you do have a Father in heaven who loves you and wants to be involved in your life. He is a redeemer and can bring good out of what was bad, healing out of wounds and joy where there was once sorrow. Run to your heavenly Father and allow Him to love you fully and completely.

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. ~ Ephesians 6:4

  1. Love the ivory cowl top and skirt combo that you wore in the picture with your mother. Sweet that you still have both parents in your life and have been enjoying your time with them!

  2. So many cute outfits. Your mother looks great. Unless I have you mixed up with another blogger isn’t she 90. Last year, I remember commenting on how good your mom looked for 90. I’m glad you’re having a good time with your family. I had a good father. In the last decade of his life were got even closer. I was the main one who took him to the doctor and grocery store. I’m happy I was there for him.

  3. I really enjoyed these lovely summer combinations – so simple yet classy and “put together”. I appreciate your mother very much and love her healthy, beautifully dressed and charming look.
