Happy Friday! And can you believe it’s the final day of June? How did that happen? Summer is speeding by. We had some cool temperatures again at the beginning of the week, and my OOTDs reflect that. But overall I’m enjoying wearing summer clothes. Here’s how I really dressed for my day this week.

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask.

I try to focus on how I styled things and why I wore what I wore rather than product details here. But if you need to know more about a piece, just ask in the comments. Let’s run through this week’s spring outfits.

What I Wore Friday

I always think I’m going to remember what I did on these days, but I often forget. Truly, most days I just work from home and do things around my house. That was probably the case last Friday when I wore my linen lantern pants (no longer available in this cobblestone) with a rosy shell and linen cardigan. The shell is from last year, but I’ve linked to a similar one that is on sale at Evereve in the captions under the photo.

Top (Similar) // Cardigan (Similar) // Linen Pants (Nordstrom) color no longer available // Sandals // Earrings // Coin Necklace // Necklace // Bracelet

I love the soft blend of browns and beiges and rose in this outfit. Some color combinations even feel cool and relaxing, don’t they? This is one of those, to me.

What I Wore Saturday

Saturday morning I got up early, early, early and shot photos for all of this week’s blog posts. Afterwards we went to breakfast and then Home Depot to get some more flowers for our yard. I wore the outfit I shared in yesterday’s blog post. In fact, I kept that on most of the day.

Sweater Tank(Similar) // Pants // Sandals // Earrings // Necklace

But later when it warmed up a bit and I needed to do more industrious stuff around the house I changed into this simple cotton summer sweater tank. It’s from last year, but we linked to a similar one – again on sale at Evereve and definitely worth checking out.

What I Wore Sunday

I had enjoyed wearing the skirt and top from Monday’s blog post so much that I decided to wear it to church Sunday. This is when I added the denim jacket and snapped those photos, in fact.

Denim Jacket // Floral Top // Floral Skirt // Shoes (use code SARAHFLINT-BAKAYH for $60 off) // Earrings // Necklace // Bracelet

I know a few readers didn’t really like the brown and mauve floral print with my ivory blazer, as shown in Monday’s blog post. But the point of that combination was to show you that you can wear it with what’s in your closet…and the ivory blazer is what’s in mine. Hahaha! That said, I do think this pretty print would be so lovely with a brown blazer or even one in pink or mauve. And I love it with a denim jacket, which is how I will really wear it anyhow.

Black V-Neck Top // White Pants (Similar) (same in black) // Black Sandals // Earrings

After church I changed into these comfy cotton pants (from last year). I just ordered and received the same pants in black because I love them so much for changing into in the evenings or on the weekend.

What I Wore Monday

Monday I decided I should wear shorts. Ha! I just don’t tend to wear shorts as often as I used to. Part of that is because I’m not in the South anymore. Once you’ve lived for years in Arizona, Texas and Georgia, Ohio just doesn’t feel very hot. But I like to push myself to bare my legs now and then so that I don’t ever grow completely uncomfortable with it. So I put on my linen shorts and this elasticized waistband pink linen shell.

Pink Tank // Shorts // Tory Burch Sandals // Earrings // Coin Necklace no longer available

That’s the top I mentioned above that is on sale at Evereve. They don’t ever discount much at Evereve. But everything is on sale at least a little right now, so this is the time to pick up anything you’ve had your eye on. This top will undoubtedly sell out. I love it.

What I Wore Tuesday

Tuesday I had a much overdue hair appointment. Yay! The photo on the left is before and the one on the left is after. I told my hairdresser I’m tired of fighting the humidity. I had straightened it to silk on Saturday morning for our photo shoot. But as soon as I walked out the door it puffed up into a big fuzzy ball. Ha! So I’m going with my wavy style for the summer. She thinned it out more underneath and shared some great products with me that will help me keep it looking fresh and healthy in this style. Fingers crossed!

White button down // Denim Skirt // Belt (Similar) // Sandals // Earrings // Necklace // Bracelet

Anyhow, I had finally ordered a denim skirt because, like a good style blogger, I wanted to try out this raging trend. But I had been very picky about what skirt I wanted to try. When I saw this one from Rails, I snagged it. It’s pricey, but I love it. What’s trending are the really long ones. But I just didn’t want all that weight. You know, denim skirts can feel a little heavy. I think this one looks modern but still feels traditional enough for my personal style essence. Would you like to see me style it various ways? I love it with my button up shirt!

What I Wore Wednesday

When I was out Tuesday I purchased these wide leg cropped length jeans from Madewell. I do love Madewell jeans. I like that these are not too short, not too wide and have a nice high waistband. And, like most Madewell jeans, they hug you in up top without feeling tight. I’m wearing a 29, as I generally do in Madewell.

Pink Cashmere Shirt // Jeans Option 1 Option 2 // Sandals // Coin Necklace // Necklace // Bracelet

I also like the midwash color of these jeans, but they do come in a lighter wash. They just didn’t have it in the store that day. I wore it with my cashmere tee and my new gold Naot sandals. Love these walking sandals! I wear a half size, so I sized up to the next full size in these.

What I Wore Thursday

Thursday was just a work from home day until James and I had a date night. But during the day I wore my Eileen Fisher lantern cargo pants. They’re 30% off now at Nordstrom.

OOTD this week
Lantern Cargo Pants (marked down!) // Organic Linen Tee // Sandals // Necklace // Bracelet // Earrings

These pants are so soft and comfortable. While I wear a small in all my linen and cotton pants and skirts from Eileen Fisher, I opted for the medium in these. They’re very roomy on me, but I don’t think I’d want to go any slimmer in the hips in these.

Then last night we went out to eat at a nice restaurant, so I decided to dress up a little. I’ve had this beautiful silk dress in my closet for several months and hadn’t had an opportunity to wear it. It’s just lovely. And I’ll keep it for years.

OOTD this week (1)
Silk Wrap Dress marked down (at Nordstrom Silk Wrap Dress) wearing a 10 // Natalie Slingbacks (Use code SARAHFLINT-BAKAYH for $60 off) // Convertible Bag // Earrings // necklace no longer available

When I was younger I had a silk dress that is similar to this one and I wore it for years. I just loved having it and wearing it. So I decided to splurge on this one in the spring. It’s still pricey, but they have marked it down at Equipment. Yay! Since James was wearing jeans and a nice shirt, I decided against the heels I’d originally chosen to wear. But I think my pale pink slingbacks actually look lovely with this ultra feminine dress.

I was fighting the wind in the photo above, so I don’t think we got the best shot of this dress. It’s really very flattering.

Well, that’s a wrap! Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great last day of June!

Blessed for My Day

I think most often we associate giving grace with granting forgiveness. Right? But there are so many more ways we can give other people grace. And remember, because we have been graced so much by God, we are never more like Him than when we show grace to those around us. Giving grace is a visible picture of the transformation that has taken place in us because of the power of Christ. So how can we give grace to others today?

We give grace when we don’t expect everyone else to think or live the same way we do. We give grace when we are patient with people, slow to form opinions about them and more eager to learn about them and from them rather than force our way upon them. We give grace when we listen and observe and learn rather than hastily sharing our opinions. And we show grace when we withhold judgment and give understanding instead. Grace costs something for sure. It’s not easy to be gracious. But when you constantly live amazed at the grace you have received, you will be more likely to give grace to others.

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. ~ John 1:16

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:10

  1. Happy Friday Kay, I really like your hair cut and carefree texture. I too, have that issue with my hair & humidity🥰
I’m off to my local Talbots for the sale and to use my birthday discount.
    Have a fabulous weekend.

  2. Hi Kay,
    Fun post! Always enjoy.
Like yesterday’s BFMD, today’s was wonderful and really hit home. Reminds me to do better and be patient!
Warm wishes for a lovely weekend. Thank you for lots of inspiration on both fronts!

  3. You mentioned choosing your shoes to match the level of what your husband is wearing. If you have a husband who doesn’t like to dress up at all, is it still OK to wear heels and a dress when he is wearing a very casual outfit? I suppose it looks silly but otherwise it limits the chance to dress up!

    1. Absolutely! I dress “fancier” than James quite frequently. And I saw lots of women at the restaurant dressed up while their dates were dressed more casually. I frequently wear heels when he is dressed casually, too. But last night I had been waffling between the two pair anyhow, so when I saw he was dressed down I just chose the flats. But I certainly could have gone with the others. 🥰

    2. I think the silk dress looks gorgeous on you, Kay. You really suit the flashes of red ( especially with the lipstick picking up the same shade) and it is a very flattering outfit. 😊

  4. The denim skirt looks more like something for autumn, but it would be nice to see it styled in a few ways. I have a lighter weight denim skirt, but since I do not have a defined waist, I have to be very careful how it’s made otherwise it just rides straight up my rib cage all day! The white linen organic t-shirt from Eileen Fisher looks really good on you, but the picture on their website makes it look like something I would never buy. Isn’t it funny how sometimes that happens! Lastly the rose and brown combination is outstanding! I really love it, but I just don’t have a lot of brown pieces. Thank you for sharing this week’s outfits!

    1. What I meant to say is that when I get a heavy skirt, such as denim or corduroy, I have to be very careful about how they are made because they ride up all day. Thanks to you teaching me how to know my proportions and do I have a defined waist, I now understand that only a certain waistband will work. I have this denim skirt and would love to see some styling options. Sometimes I think I’m being clear when I leave a comment. And then I reread it! Hahaha

    1. I like the longer sleeve and I’m sure a lot of women would like it as well. We definitely do not all like the way our upper arms look.

But the way the dress is made, I think it would look nice with a shorter sleeve that could be accomplished by a seamstress or tailor.

  5. I think the matching skirt and top are lovely and so versatile-the different jackets really make a difference!

  6. Yes, I’d like to see that denim skirt styled in different ways 🙂

Love that second paragraph in BFMD about ways we can show grace to others. A great reminder for me!

  7. Hi Kay! I like your hair😊 I have wavy curly hair. I got tired of spending all the time blowing it out only to have it curl right back up (usually in wonky ways). I decided a few years ago to take it easy on myself and just go with my natural texture. I prefer it so much now. In regards to the clothing you shared; it has taken me a while to adjust to the new pants/jeans silhouette. I got used to all the slim/skinny styles. Now when I see the Madewell jeans and Eileen Fisher pants on you I see that the fuller styles are actually quite flattering. You look long and lean in those two. Thanks for the fun post.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing, Kim. It’s amazing how much just giving our eyes time to adjust can help us see styles differently.

  8. You always look so lovely a,
Would you please tell us what hair products your hairdresser suggested ?

  9. Hi Kay,
Lovely hair! I like white pant whith a black shirt and linen pants and white shirt. For me these outfits are typically for summer days. Have a good week end with your husband.🌞

  10. You look beautiful in everything you show us…but when I saw you in that stunning silk dress, my mouth dropped. I am not kidding…it is a real wow from the cut to the color. The pops of red are just so complementary to you. But it is pricey for sure. Funny, I kind of wish I didn’t see it (haha) because now it’s in my head but it would surely be splurge for me. Sometimes with a pricey purchase such as that dress, I wait a few weeks to see if I’m still thinking about it. So we’ll see. To answer your question, I would love to see you style the denim skirt! Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Deb. It was a huge splurge for me too. But it wasn’t an impulse buy at all. I had decided I wanted one truly pretty silk dress. (I don’t think these photos do it justice at all 😉) So I discovered Equipment does silk dresses really well and began looking there. I actually ordered several and tried them on, but this is the one I kept. I’m the same way. I’m pretty good about taking my time with big purchases. I plan for them, budget for them, take my time looking for what I want and make sure I buy something that I can wear and enjoy for years.

  11. Hi Kay,

I really love your posts that show how you dressed for your real life. The silk dress you wore out to dinner is just gorgeous. I hope you get to wear it many, many times. Can you tell me where in Cincinnati or N. Kentucky you buy your Madewell jeans? I have not run across them in any of my haunts. (Maybe that’s because I primarily shop 2nd hand these days, ha, ha.)

    1. Hi Kathy. I usually order online since I’m pretty familiar with their sizing (generally run large), but I got these at Kenwood Towne Center Mall.

  12. I like wearing a denim skirt, my question is the one you are wearing, is it more in style that day one that doesn’t look like deconstructed jeana?

    1. Hi Cyndi. I’m not sure I understood your question, but I think you were asking about the deconstructed jeans style of the skirt. Yes, that is very on trend. But I’ve not liked a lot of the ones I’ve seen – just a little TOO deconstructed for my taste or too long. But I felt like this one was a nod to that trend without looking like something that will be completely out of style next year. The classic denim skirts are, well, classics. And you can always wear those. But this is the trending silhouette and, since I am a style blogger 😉, I thought I should try one. And I do like it. 🥰

  13. I always enjoy your Friday posts to see what you wore. I have a denim skirt similar to yours but it has an actual slit. I bought it two years ago at Banana Republic factory. I am going to wear it tomorrow to church. I had thought of wearing a white button up with it. Then I see this post. Definitely going to wear it tomorrow. I always love all the blessed for my day.
