Happy Friday! And welcome to this early holiday edition of How I Really Dressed for My Day. Each Friday I like to share my real life outfits. It keeps me accountable to my own mantra of “get dressed for your day,” and it allows you to see how I’m really putting outfits together for my real {casual} life. This past weekend we went to Georgia to join in the celebration of my granddaughter’s first birthday and to exchange Christmas presents with family. So I pulled out the ritz…so to speak.

What I Wore to See Santa Friday Evening
I actually also wore this outfit out to lunch with my mom on Friday. But that afternoon James and I headed over to my daughter’s home to begin our Christmas celebration with them. We took our granddaughter to see Santa that night at the Battery, which is the home of the Braves’ baseball stadium as well as lots of restaurants and shops.

I love the classic combination of my apple cider plaid pants with an ivory cashmere sweater. I kept the outfit very traditional with my brown loafers and a camel coat. I felt perfectly comfortable in this outfit, but also festive and pulled together. After dinner at a Mexican food restaurant, we headed back to my daughter’s home to help them decorate for the big birthday part.
What I Wore for Party #1
Saturday morning bright and early we headed back to my daughter’s with a grits casserole and sausage/cheese balls, as well as the birthday cake Abby had ordered. She threw a party for Hannah with friends of theirs from church and other avenues of life. It was a biscuit bar brunch party and the theme was “It’s a One-derful Life!”

As I said I would in this blog post, I wore my bedazzled ankle jeans with my funnel neck pullover. And yes, Hannah loved it. Ha! This outfit felt appropriately festive, but still casual and comfortable. The party was a huge hit. By the way, I was on my feet nonstop for five hours, cooking up eggs, replenishing drinks and taking care of the guests. It was so much fun!
Just a bit more about the party… Abby had It’s a Wonderful Life playing silently on the television throughout the party, with festive Christmas music filling the air. She had little brass bells with a 2024 charm and red ribbons tied to them for guests to take as party favors. They had a note beside them reminding guests that “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings!” She also had other sweet references to the movie around the house. It was a really sweet theme for a one-year-old birthday party in December.
How I Dressed for Church
Sunday morning my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter joined us at my parents’ church. It’s the church where I grew up, so I always love going there. But it was especially nice to have my kids there with us. They normally go to a different church, where they are very active and involved.

I wore my Black Watch plaid velveteen pants with a green cashmere sweater (not available in this color this year) and my black Ally booties. It was a cold, rainy day, so I was glad I had my quilted puffer jacket.
What I Wore to Party #2
Sunday afternoon we went back to Abby and Andrew’s for party # 2. This was actually Hannah’s birthday, and Abigail had wanted to celebrate it quietly with family. We had about 16 family members there for another wonderful birthday cake and coffee.

When we took that photo above, I was starting to feel the effects of the weekend. I was exhausted. But it had all be worth it. Such a memorable weekend. I wore those bedazzled jeans again. I guess we can officially call those my party jeans! And this time I topped them with my metallic bow sweater. I was so glad I had some festive things to wear.
What I Wore for a Day Off on Wednesday
I completely forgot to get a photo of my travel outfit on Monday. I think it was just jeans and a sweater. And Tuesday I edited a video all day, so I don’t think I ever made it out of my workout clothes.

But Wednesday, after turning in my last sponsored blog post to the sponsor on Tuesday afternoon, I took the day off. I sat by the fire and read most all day. I did get going mid-afternoon and baked a yummy lasagna for dinner. So I felt comfortable but pulled together in my Frank & Eileen joggers and corduroy shirt, along with my sherpa slippers.
What I Wore Out and About Thursday
Thursday I had some appointments throughout the day, so I wanted to look my best but also be comfortable and casual. So I wore my Paige wide leg black jeans with a grey sweater I’d purchased in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I gave the sweater a gentle front tuck and added a belt for a more polished look.

I needed to wear my black booties because I had an alterations appointment for which I needed the pants hemmed to wear with these. But these 2.5″ heel booties are surprisingly comfortable to walk in, so I did just fine with them. I love the look of doubling up your color up top, so I wore my grey coat – also a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchase – over the grey sweater.
So that’s a wrap for this past week! Let me know if you have any questions about anything I’ve shown. Thanks so much for stopping in for a little style inspiration. Have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day
Last night we watched the movie, The Nativity Story. I hadn’t watched it in quite a while, but James used to show it to his New Testament students when he was teaching because it is one of the most accurate representations of the Christmas story available. Not perfect, mind you, but close. Anyhow, as always, I couldn’t help but ponder how Mary, Joseph and even Elizabeth and Zechariah must have felt about the huge events they experienced with the advent of Christ’s birth. Can you even imagine?
God certainly chose these individuals to usher in the birth of Messiah for reasons known only to Him. And He prepared them to handle the roles He called them, too. But it is awe-inspiring to think of how they dealt with the both the trials and the joys of watching prophecies be fulfilled through their families. But you know, in like manner, God has prepared each of us to do things for His kingdom. They may feel small and inconsequential to you. But we never really know the impact of the little things we do in His name. So today, carry on and obey the voice of the Lord, whether that means giving grace to someone, taking cookies to a lonely neighbor, attending the funeral of a dear friend or leaving a generous tip for a waiter. Do what you know to do and leave the results to the Lord.
And you, child, also will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on before the Lord to prepare His ways; To give His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins, Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us…~ Luke 1:76-78
Yaay Kay-I pulled together an outfit like your Friday gray and black one, following your “double the color on the top”-glad to see I got it right! Blessings on your Christmas!
Kay, what bra do you wear? I’m sure you’ve shared the answer before, but I missed it.
Thanks!!
Hi Joyce. It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a foundations post. I probably need to do that soon. I’ve been wearing this one for years. https://go.shopmy.us/p-11425952
Great outfits! I always enjoy seeing what you really wear each day. Thank you for the BFMD – I needed that message today.
Love your gray coat/gray sweater combination, Kay. Sounds like you had a wonderful week. How creative of Abby with her One-derful Life theme. It’s very timely for me too. My son and his writing partner just wrote a new musical version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” that just premiered here on stage in Madison WI the last two weekends of November. They incorporated lots of fun ideas with Clarence the Angel. The story is classic and I know the first time I saw it, I wondered how many other people asked themselves what impact they had had in their lives. It’s a wonderful message. Hope you and your family have a great Christmas.
That sounds amazing! I’m sure it is a delightful play.
I love these posts as we also get a glimpse into your life. You have a wonderful family.
I loved each and every outfit you wore last week. The mural your daughter did at the picture for party number two was so cute. Her age group certainly has more energy than mine – ha ha. I also love that you all went to your parents church together as a family. That is so special.
I’m going to try to find and watch the nativity story. Thank you for recommending it. Merry Christmas.
I have a suggestion for a future video. I would love to see one that had all of your “style hacks “how to pop your collar (and get it to stay up) how to tie a knot in your shirts so that it lays flat etc.
What a week you had!
Awesome article….. you are human and were tired at the end, of course, but still elegant. 👌👌✨💫✨💕 Thanks for sharing with all of us!
Merry Christmas!
Love your Thursday outfit, the gray sweater and coat with black jeans. And judging by the comments, I’m not the only one who loved that outfit. 🙂
I love the devotional message. I’m so glad you had a wonderful time with your family. Grandchildren are precious. I miss my grandkids being little. The youngest is 12. They’re growing so fast. Enjoy the time you can spend with your grandbaby. I enjoyed this post and your YouTube videos. My favorite outfit is the gray coat and sweater one. I know you will be taking off to enjoy the holidays. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
These are always my favorite posts – I love seeing what you choose to wear in daily life. Also, I love the birthday party theme! It almost makes me want to have another baby with a December birthday just to throw a similar one! Almost! Ha! That is my favorite movie of all time – I love it so much that I wrote a devotional book based on it! What a sweet theme and a great choice for party favors!
