Happy Friday! Today I’m bringing back what is usually a weekly post, my daily outfits for the week. I took off some time from these to share more Christmas gift guides and also because of my recent Mohs surgery on my forehead. But I’ve rounded up outfits from the past few weeks to share with you today.

How I Really Dressed for My Day Recently

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

What I Wore to Lunch

I didn’t bother to get these in order. So you might notice that my hair length changes back and forth in a few of these, and some photos are obviously pre-surgery and others you’ll see a bandage or scar. But I felt it was more important just to at least share what I was doing or where I went wearing these outfits.

I know I wore this first combination out to lunch with my girlfriends. We eat at casual places most every Thursday. And this was one of our final warmish days of fall.

What I Wore
similar pants // cinched v-neck tee // crossbody bag // earrings (30% off) // black ballet flats (use code SARAHFLINT-BAKAYH for $50 off your first pair of shoes, $100 off 2 pairs, $150 off 3 pairs or $200 off 4 pairs)

I still love these Eileen Fisher wool lantern pants, but I’m realizing now that I’m not going to be wearing them through the winter like I had planned. My feet just get too cold in the winter to wear anything that exposes my ankles. (I seem to forget that every year until the first cold blast!) And even if I wear ankle boots under these, they feel quite drafty. We’ll see.

But for this day, I felt pretty and pulled together. I think the key to the lantern pants is pairing them with something fairly fitted up top, like this cinched v-neck tee, which is still available at Loft and marked down.

By the way, I know those Sarah Flint Sacchetto black ballet flats are very pricey and not for everyone. BUT, if you do want to take the plunge with Sarah Flint shoes, now is the time to do it! For a limited time you can use my code SARAHFLINT-BAKAYH for stacked savings. Get $50 off your first pair of shoes, $100 off 2 pairs, $150 off 3 pairs or $200 off 4 pairs of Sarah Flints.

What I Wore on a Rainy Day Outing

I wore this next outfit on one of mine and James’ 2nd Friday Explore Ohio outings. We ended up not doing much of what we’d planned because it was a rainy, drizzly day. But we visited a new coffee shop and mostly rode around taking in the sights. I wore my straight leg jeans (same jeans/similar rinse), a simple wool blend cable knit sweater. (Oops! I forgot to put on my lipstick before taking my photo!)

What I Wore on a Friday Outing
jeans (same jeans/similar rinse) // cable knit sweater // boots // quilted jacket (restocked in indigo!) // earrings

This sweater is an acrylic/merino wool/polyamide/alpaca/elastane blend. I’d say it’s ever so slightly on the itchy side, so if you’re very sensitive to such things, it’s not for you. But if I wear my ever-so-trusty camisole (also available in petite sizing) underneath, I don’t have a problem with it. My jeans are only available in limited sizes now. They’re my absolute favorites. They’re also available in a couple of plus sizes. But you can get the same jeans in other washes here.

By the way, it appears they’ve restocked my quilted jacket in navy. I LOVE this little jacket. I’m wearing the medium and it’s roomy enough for me to layer underneath it. And that’s what I’ll need to do if I wear it into the winter. I’d say it’s more for fall/spring or warmer climates.

What I Wore on a Cold Day to Church

I remember wearing this sweater and jeans outfit to church on a cold day. In fact, I think we were getting some snow flurries mixed in with rain. We have a very casual church, so this felt like the perfect choice. I got lots of compliments on my ivory boots that day.

What I Wore to Church
sweater // jeans // ivory boots (more economical option) // earrings // necklace (30% off) // watch (use code KAYHRMS35 for up to 35% off, limited time) // vegan leather shoulder bag (use code Kay10 for 10% off your purchase)

Because of the variety of stripes in this sweet sweater, you could also pair it with lighter wash jeans or ivory jeans or pants. And it’s marked down, plus you get an additional 40% off today.

What I Wore Shopping on a Saturday

I wore this black and camel outfit on a rare Saturday when I had no work to do. So I got out to look for a lamp for my new kitchen sideboard. I returned home empty handed, but I enjoyed wearing these oh so comfortable black travel pants and camel cotton blend turtleneck top. This is a great travel outfit, too.

What I Wore to the Mall
black travel pants // cotton blend turtleneck top (available in other colors) // similar loafers and these (most availability) and these // necklace // quilted coat (30% off today) // earrings (30% off today) // crossbody bag // watch (use code KAYHRMS for up to 35% off)

Oh! And they’ve restocked these black travel pants and they’re available in a full range of misses and petite sizes. They are full price right now, so I’d wait for Talbots to offer a discount (like this weekend!). But these are great pants. I noticed a few poor reviews on the website, but I think that’s because some women just didn’t know what they were getting when they ordered them. These are definitely travel pants. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear them at home or out and about. I certainly do. But they are ideal for elevated travel. These pants abrasion resistant, machine washable and very comfortable. They also have zipper pockets.

By the way, I wear a lot of Kendra Scott jewelry. Here I’m wearing a necklace that’s no longer available in black (or at Kendra Scott at all). But I love these KS Maggie medium hoops. At Kendra Scott they are having what they’re calling their Best Sell Ever. And indeed, I’ve never seen them give this kind of discount storewide, so items will go fast. You can get 30% off sitewide on their regular jewelry and 25% off on all fine jewelry, sterling silver and men’s jewelry. Pretty amazing. I’m definitely shopping today.

What I Wore Working from Home

I know this next outfit was just for working from home because, while I put on a little eye makeup, I don’t appeared to have put on any foundation. Ha! But I did indeed get dressed for my day. It was probably a video editing day because I wore my marcasite heather everyday stretch straight leg pants from the T by Talbots collection. I think these pants look polished enough to pair with a cableknit sweater, but they’re also comfortable enough to get out for a quick walk or two as I edit videos.

What I Wore Working from Home
cableknit sweater // everyday stretch straight leg pants // similar gun metal loafers // similar necklaces // earrings

My gun metal loafers are sold out, but they have these similar gun metal loafers. Mine are extremely comfortable right out of the box and true to size. I imagine the others would be, too.

What I Wore to the Hairdresser

I went to a new hairdresser this month (simply because I moved and it’s more convenient). I wore this camel cashmere sweater and black ponte Dream pants from Everlane the day I got my hair trimmed. I grabbed some lunch and ran a few errands afterward.

What I Wore to Get My Hair Cut
camel cashmere sweater // black ponte Dream pants // blazer // similar loafers and these (most availability) and these // necklace // crossbody bag // watch (use code KAYHRMS for up to 35% off) // earrings (30% off)

I love how this outfit looks elevated and chic, but it’s all really very comfortable and easy. I seem to have worn a lot of black and camel in the past few weeks, huh. But that’s kind of how I roll. I latch onto something and do it over and over and over…until I’m tired of it and ready to move on. Ha!

What I Wore to a Girlfriend Party

This next photo is just under a week after having my Mohs surgery. So I know I’m getting a little out of order here. But on this day I worked from home in this festive sweater dress and then wore it out to eat with friends. We were celebrating one of the ladies who had taught the rest of them in small group Bible study for the past umpteen years. I wasn’t officially in the group, but they kindly included me. We had a great time and it was so fun to get out at this point, bandage and all.

What I Wore to a Girlfriend Party
festive sweater dress // similar boots (more economical option) // tights // earrings 30% off // quilted jacket (restocked in indigo!)

I wish I could wear my boots without tights sometimes like they do in the photo of this sweater dress. But I just don’t feel like my knees look that great anymore. Anybody else??? Meanwhile, if I’m going to wear tights, my favorites are these tights at J.Jill. They’re true to size and so comfortable. They’re truly opaque, but not heavy.

What I Wore Working from Home

I think this was the first day I really got dressed for my day after surgery, probably just a couple of days afterwards. I’d gotten in these new straight leg jeans from J.Crew and wanted to give them a trial run, but I ended up wearing them all day and keeping them. They’re slightly more “boxy” than the Talbots straight leg jeans, so a little different silhouette. I’d consider them to be the more true straight leg between the two. These jeans fit and feel more like the traditional Levi’s of my youth. I’m wearing a 30 and probably could have gone with the 29. They’re roomy. And yes, these are the regular length, so they definitely run longer than the photo on the website would indicate.

What I Wore Working from Home
rollneck sweater // straight leg jeans // micro rib turtleneck in burnt sugar // boots // similar earrings 30% off // faux fur vest

This sweater is another of my attempts to find non-cashmere sweaters for my readers. This one is a polyamide/merino wool/alpaca/elastane blend. It is very soft, slightly lightweight and available in lots of pretty colors. And right now it’s 30% off. Mine is in peony.

I added this micro rib turtleneck in burnt sugar under my sweater for additional warmth and visual interest. This is a very soft layering turtleneck. It fits close to the body, but not tight. Of course that may be because I did size up to a large (as suggested on the website).

How I Dressed for a Double Date Night

Boy, my hair grows fast! I know this looks like it’s from before my trim, but it’s just last Friday. We went out to dinner with another couple. It was so fun to get out for a double date. I wore my favorite black jeans from Everlane (no longer available, but these are similar). I topped them with this pretty soft pink cable knit cashmere sweater. I was gifted this sweater by Dongli and they provided me with a code for you.

What I Wore for a Double Date
soft pink cable knit cashmere sweater // similar jeans // Chelsea boots // earrings 30% off // necklace // watch (use code KAYHRMS for up to 35% off)

This cashmere sweater is extremely soft and luxurious. And I like that it’s a little different from all my others with this cable knit feature. The yarn is sustainable, organic and hand combed from Inner Mongolia (Dongli owns the cashmere herds). Dongli is a Canadian brand, but the sweaters are made in Mongolia. I’m quite impressed with this sweater. You can use code KAY15 for 15% off your purchase.

What I Wore for a Double Date
soft pink cable knit cashmere sweater // similar jeans // Chelsea boots // earrings 30% off // necklace // watch (use code KAYHRMS for up to 35% off) // quilted coat

I thought this outfit looked really smart but appropriately casual with my quilted coat. We just went out for pizza. But I felt pretty and sharp. I think this was the first day I put some makeup over my scar. Ooh! And I’m loving these black Chelsea boots. They’re full price right now, but watch for a good sale next week.

What I Wore Working from Home

I think this was the day that I discovered the black travel pants had been restocked. So I wore them to show them on Instagram. I topped them on this day with my new cashmere turtleneck from Nordstrom. This is the blue azurine color. I think it’s so cheerful.

What I Wore Working from Home
black travel pants // cashmere turtleneck // blue trouser socks // necklace // gunmetal loafers (similar gunmetal loafers) // earrings

Because I wanted to wear my gunmetal loafers (similar gunmetal loafers), but it was chilly, I decided to add some blue socks that almost (but not completely) match. You can check out my post about wearing socks in the winter here. But bottom line, I think if you’re socks are clearly going to show (as with loafers) they should be treated as an accessory. Whereas if they are going to mostly be hidden (as with most booties) they should be in the same shade as your booties and treated more as an undergarment. So I wore these blue trouser socks to create a bookend effect.

What I Wore to Church on a Cold Day

This is what I wore to church this past Sunday. I’d missed the week before due to my little surgery. It was frigid cold and snowing, so I layered on the warmth. I wore those J.Crew straight leg jeans with my white ruffled shirt from Loft. Ooh! That white ruffled shirt has been restocked in at least a few sizes. I’m wearing a medium. It’s a great elevated basic. So soft! They also have a pretty black and white plaid that is fully stocked.

What I Wore to Church
straight leg jeans // white ruffled shirt // cable knit sweater // plaid Ralph Lauren coat // similar boots (slightly more economical option) // Kay Earrings (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off) // shoulder bag

Anyhow! I digress. I wore that same cable knit sweater I showed earlier. And I topped my outfit with my plaid Ralph Lauren coat that I purchased in last year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I saw last week that the coat is back, but now it’s also marked down 50%. It’s only available in a few sizes in the color combination, but they have another one in most sizes. I sized up to a 10 in this coat, as I usually do.

I accessorized this mixture of rough and ready and feminine with one more feminine touch, my new Kay Earrings from Rachelyn. Rachel named them after me! How sweet is that? Use code KAYHARMS to save 10% on your purchase at Rachelyn. She makes exquisite, feminine jewelry, including custom pieces at request.

What I Wore on a Sunday Afternoon

This photo is obviously from before my surgery, but I wear this WKND combo most every Sunday afternoon. My tee is sold out right now, but I expect Soma to restock it eventually. And my Sunday pants are not available in this shade right now, but they do have other colors. But you can check out the whole Soma WKND collection for similar lounge clothes.

What I Wore on a Sunday Afternoone
Sunday pants // slippers

These are a habit worth repeating!

What I Wore to the Matinee

Finally, this look is indeed from yesterday. James and I went to see a matinee showing of The Most Reluctant Convert. We really enjoyed it…especially since we had the theater all to ourselves! Since I had shared about skinny jeans in yesterday’s post, I decided to pull out the other pair I kept and wear them. I topped them with this leopard print layering turtleneck and toasted brown pocket cardigan. I completed the look with my riding boots.

leopard print layering turtleneck // pocket cardigan // skinny jeans // similar boots (more economical option) // earrings // similar necklace // shoulder bag

I thought this was a fun date look for a matinee. I did wear my quilted coat over it, but neglected to take a photo.

Thanks for dropping in! I hope you have a lovely day.

Blessed for My Day

I’m not one to promote the popular concept of “manifesting,” but I do believe that our thought life largely affects the path we take each day. If we choose to dwell on the crisis of the moment, lingering hurt feelings over a recent conversation or even the negative memories of a long past event, we will struggle to find victory in the day.

But when we focus our minds on the truth and wise counsel and promises of God’s Word, we set ourselves on a different course. Today we have a choice. Will we reap the blessings of meditating on God’s Word or will we allow negative thoughts to rule the day?

Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, And on His Law he meditates day and night. ~ Psalm 1:1-2

Spread the love

  1. Kay, You sure put together some very nice outfits! I really like what you wore to church last Sunday. Yes, your hair does grow fast! I hope that you like the new person we went too. I’m with you on not willing to show my knees to often, since they aren’t a part of my body I want to draw attention to. Enjoy the rest of your day!

  2. I have those same Eileen Fisher lantern pants (purchased after seeing you in them!) I was planning on wearing them all winter with tall boots hidden under the pant legs or ankle boots with matching socks. I haven’t tried this out yet, though. What do you think of that plan?

    1. Ha! That may work. I’ll have to play around with it. And it may be that I can wear my taller shaft booties with socks (that won’t show). I do love them. So I’ll see what I can do. ?

  3. Lantern pants. Cold ankles and cold legs. Love them But pack away I must. It’s time to turn to my pretty sweater like the pink with the navy and my silver shoes are getting out of the closet and I’m adding pink socks. I think it looks nice. I’m pushing back on no socks with loafers. I’m wearing socks. I love the white boots too. Maybe Merry Christmas to me?

  4. I really like the pink cashmere sweater and might have to purchase it even though I have several pink sweaters. I have a thing about buying sweaters for the past two years. I love them But how many sweaters can a girl need even if she lives in Minnesota lol. I bought the turquoise colored sweater dress you showed last week from Talbots but not the one you showed today. Just got it yesterday and I love it. I think I’m going to wear it to church Sunday with tall brown boots and a brown purse. Haven’t decided on what jewelry I’m gonna wear yet but I have plenty of that too lol
Is the movie that you and James went and watched a Christian movie? It seems to be from the trailer. I haven’t been to the movie theater for two years now.
    Sounds fun!

  5. Love the Ralph Lauren coat – will check to see if available in Canada. Was wondering how to reply to your posts – now I think I’ve figured it out!

  6. I agree with the tights being worn, but wondered if you can clarify on color. Do I match my outfit or my shoes?

Also, LOVE the socks with the loafers!

    Thanks Kay!

    JoAnn

    1. Hi JoAnn. I just always try to match one or the other. My first preference is always to match my tights with my boots because that will make my legs look longer and keeps proportions better. But if I don’t have a pair of tights in that color I match them to my dress. So I have brown tights but they don’t really match my cognac boots perfectly anyhow, so I opted to wear navy tights to match my dress. But when I wear my black boots I always wear black tights to match them.

  7. Great post, always fun to see what you’ve been wearing in real life! My favourite outfit is the third to last with the ruffle shirt, love everything about it.

  8. I am curious about the Talbots travel pants, they are cute on you. What is the fabric weight? Nylon/ spandex makes me think they are filmsy.

    1. Hi Louise. No the fabric is not flimsy at all. It’s a mid to heavy weight fabric. Fairly thick. It’s quite soft and nice feeling.
