Hey, hey! It’s Friday! Do you have plans for the weekend? I know that there are still restrictions and guidelines in place most everywhere. But I also know of people who are starting to get out and about a little more as they’re getting immunized. Regardless, I do hope we all can do a little something enjoyable and maybe even sociable this weekend. I know our souls could use a little sunshine…of more than one variety.

As usual on Fridays, I’m sharing my daily outfits for the past seven days. This is how I really dressed for my days this past week.

How I Really Dressed for My Day 03-19-21 03-25-21

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

How This Works

I want to focus more on styling tips and less on the products. So please assume everything I’m wearing is true to size and fits and feels great unless I tell you otherwise. After all, these are the things I’m choosing to wear in real life.

I’m providing shopping widgets after each outfit, and a lot of what I’m showing you is still available. I’m also trying to include more economical options where that’s appropriate. But if I forget to do that, just ask.

Bonus!

I had a few things come in from Talbots just as I was putting today’s post together. So at the end of this post you’ll see a few outfits I put together from those things. I didn’t wear these this week, but I wanted to share them with you. I don’t know if they’ll be on sale this weekend, but fingers crossed!

Let’s get started!

How I Really Dressed for Friday

The older I get the harder it is for me to remember what I did one day after the other. Especially since most of my days are pretty much the same, they all run together. At any rate, last Friday I chose to wear my Talbots high waist straight leg jeans with the bright colored shell and simple cardigan. I probably worked from home and then got out for a few errands.

How I Really Dressed for Friday

Most any time I want to wear my shirt untucked, I reach for a pair of full length straight leg jeans. That way I don’t shorten the lower part of my body and still have nice long legs. Adding a bit of a heel is also an added bonus. I like these Havana tan slingback wedge sandals with jeans because they have some substance to them.

I guess I felt like wearing a little more jewelry that day. You know I’ve been going very minimal with jewelry lately. But on this day I wore my Rachelyn pearl necklace, my baroque pearl bracelent and pearl earrings.

How I Really Dressed for Saturday

Saturday I worked out and then prepped for shooting videos. That included making a mad dash to the mall, so I got dressed in my Talbots relaxed chinos in sand castle khaki and my striped big shirt from Gap.

I felt like it was a little premature in the season to wear my chinos cuffed, so I unrolled them quickly before heading out the door. Maybe I should have ironed or steamed them. Ha!

How I Really Dressed for Saturday

I really liked the way this outfit came together. And it truly is one I just threw together. I think when you’re careful to stay in your lane and build a wardrobe in your color palette and personal style aesthetic you’re more likely to be able to do that. Everything here is pretty classic. But the modern cut of the shirt and the crossbody canvas bag really pull it all together in a way that is current and fresh. (Use code GOSPRING for up to 40% off the bag or leather ones like it.)

By the way, my Nordgreen watch will not appear in the shopping widget. But you can still use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your purchase through my link.

How I Really Dressed for Sunday

On Sunday I stayed home from church. James had been suffering from allergies all week and thought it best not to preach with his froggy voice lest someone think he was even sicker than he really was. So we stayed home and watched the service on YouTube. Then we shot videos in the afternoon because he hadn’t been up to it the day before. So I just wore my cuffed jeans and this comfy hooded sweater.

How I Really Dressed for Sunday

It’s taken me a little while for my eyes to adjust to the wide cuff jean trend. But now I’m liking them. What about you?

How I Really Dressed for Tuesday

I don’t have a photo for Monday, and all I remember doing was working. Ha! It’s probably one of those days that I didn’t feel what I wore was photo-worthy. Yes, I have those days, too. Anyhow, Tuesday was a day full of editing. So I put on something comfy but sharp so I’d feel capable but also be ready to head out the door for quick walks while my video buffered.

How I Really Dressed for Tuesday

I wore my trusty black joggers from Talbots and a double v-neck T by Talbots tee. I added silver jewelry on this day, probably because the t-shirt features grey and black stripes. I just kinda like the look of silver jewelry with grey, pink and black. I wore my silver classic hoops and my Parker chain necklace.

How I Really Dressed for Wednesday

Wednesday I had my long-awaited dermatologist appointment for the bump on my nose…that had meanwhile disappeared on its own. Ha! But I still had another place on my nose that needed assessing, as well as a few other spots. I didn’t want to wear any makeup, but I still wanted to look and feel pretty. Plus it was an extremely warm and sunny day. So I opted for my pretty floral skirt, a solid white reversible tank and my charming cardigan from Talbots.

Unfortunately, my floral skirt, which is on sale and available for another 30% off, is almost sold out. But they have two new floral skirts of the same type. Of course, they’re not on sale right now. I’m wearing a size small and it’s extremely comfortable and soft.

How I Really Dressed for Wednesday

I layered on several necklaces and bracelets on this day. I guess to compensate for the lack of makeup. Ha! And look. I wore my oh so soft Born sandals and carried my straw satchel. I felt pretty and oh so springy in this outfit. I think that’s why I swung by the grocery store on the way home and picked up a couple of bouquets of tulips! (Well, plus I’d gotten a good report at the dermatologist!)

How I Really Dressed for Thursday

Thursday I got in a good exercise session, visiting with family on the phone and then got dressed to go to lunch with a couple of my friends. We meet at very casual places and it was supposed to rain, so I felt comfortable wearing my white jeans (up to 40% off with code GOSPRING) with sneakers. And this tie dye cotton blend sweater felt so cheerful and springy.

How I Really Dressed for Thursday

I thought my customized Bronze Veined Teal Magnesite pendant necklace added a pleasant splash of additional color to this cheerful ensemble. I just added my large gold hoops and my classic denim jacket before heading out the door.

So that’s how I really dressed for my week and those are my daily outfits. I’m enjoying the transition from winter to spring a little better this year, now that I know what to expect from an Ohio spring. It’s quite different from the three hours of spring we used to have in Arizona. Ha!

Now let me show you a few things I received in the mail yesterday. They’re too good to wait. Plus, maybe there will be some sales this weekend!

New Looks from Talbots & J.Jill

I was prepared for the cooler, longer spring this year with some cotton long sleeve sweaters. But the one area I’ve still felt lacking in is closed toe shoe options. Now these suede platform espadrilles aren’t just extremely warm, mind you. But they are closed toe, so they’re great for wearing before that summer pedicure. Plus they’re just mighty cute! I got them in the light toffee so they’d be close to my skin color.

sandbar and white stripe linen easy shirt // cargo crop chinos // Quinn suede platform espadrilles // Parker chain necklace

Looking at this photo, it doesn’t do them justice. These Quinn suede platform espadrilles are cute shoes! Plus they hit so many of the trends: espadrilles, platforms, suede and crochet details…all in one fun shoe. I’m wearing my TTS 9.5, but I confess when I first put them on and started walking one shoe slipped off my heel and almost tripped me. But I adjusted my feet in them a bit and continued walking around…and fell in love.

I’m also showing you the sandbar and white stripe linen easy shirt from J.Jill. I have this shirt in the solid white from last year and love it. I think the sandbar and stripe will make neutrals addition to my summer wardrobe. I’m wearing a TTS medium in this shirt, whereas I often wear smalls in J.Jill tops.

Finally, above I’m wearing the linen easy shirt with the white cargo crop chinos from Talbots. I could also tuck this shirt into the chinos, but I kind of like the relaxed vibe of this styling. The chinos fit true to size and come in other colors.

sleeveless slub denim shift dress // Quinn suede platform espadrilles // Parker chain necklace // classic silver hoops

Isn’t this sleeveless slub denim shift dress darling? It’s 100% cotton and feels so light and comfortable. It fits true to size; I’m wearing an 8. And it also comes in petite, petite plus and plus sizes. I think this is going to make the perfect summer dress for casual outings or just being home.

Next up, another fun and oh so soft dress from Talbots. I purchased a shirt dress from Talbots last year, but returned it because it felt stiff and uncomfortable. Not this one! This 100% cotton dolman sleeve shirtdress is very soft and light. It has a lovely drape and silky hand. And I think the biscayne blue dots/flowers are so cheerful and modern. The dolman sleeve shirtdress runs true to size; I’m wearing an 8 very comfortably.

dolman sleeve shirtdress // ditsy floral hoop earrings // Quinn suede platform espadrilles

Oh, I almost forgot. I’ve had these ditsy floral hoop earrings and even wore them in a video. But don’t they look great with this dress? I know I’ll be wearing these floral hoops a lot this summer.

By the way, I’m not sure that the Quinn suede platform espadrilles are the shoes I’ll wear with this shirtdress. They’re just the ones I had on! But the shoes are versatile enough to wear with it if needed.

Blessed for My Day

Are you at a crossroads? Do you have a decision to make or a path to choose? Or maybe you’ve received an offer and you just need to know whether to accept or decline. Every day we are faced with decisions. And it can be stressful to feel like we could make the mistake of our lifetime or somehow ruin things for other people if we make a misstep.

But let’s take a breath today and realize that we don’t have to put that kind of pressure on ourselves. We have a sovereign God who is also loving and kind. He is not playing games with our lives or our minds. He’s not trapping us into corners or quizzing us on the minutiae. God just wants us to seek Him with all our hearts, to revere and honor Him, to diligently walk in step with Him the best we can and to desire to serve Him. If we will do that He will gently, daily guide us through the paths of our lives. And we can rest in His leadership. Take a breath. Now exhale. And trust God with this.

And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the Lord’s commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good? ~ Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Spread the love

  1. Kay….you always look so polished, classy and I will say it again…your hairstyle tops off your complete look. By the way…your skin glows. Are you still using the L’Oreal makeup? I apologize if I’m behind on your makeup products. The blue cardigan and floral orchid colored shell are gorgeous colors on you. Enjoy your weekend.
    ~Lisa~

    1. Hi Lisa. Thank you. I definitely liked the L’Oreal products for a more economical option, but I’m using the Mary Kay products I featured in last winter’s beauty post. In fact, I’ve recently switched to their TimeWise Repair VoluFirm set and I’m loving it.

  2. Another wonderful post. Glad to see cardigans are still in. You said in the wedding dress post that the sweater shrug is dated for a wedding. How about wearing at other occasions? Are they a donation item on a hang on to item?

    1. I personally would not wear a shrug at all. They’re still available in stores, but I just think they look a little old fashioned. Of course some would say the same about my traditional button up cardigans. But I would opt for one of these over a shrug.

  3. Good morning Kay!

I love the way you put outfits together, and appreciate the links to them all as well. I love your white sneakers, can you send me a link to them please?

    Blessings,
    Christine

  4. The colorful top and sweater are so pretty. I really like what you wore to the dermatologist. I have been seeing a dermatologist regularly since the early 1970’s and have had more skin cancer spots than I can count. Fortunately, none of them have been melanoma. I have full body skin checks every 4-6 months, so I totally understand what you are dealing with. I am not on board with the wide cuff jeans just yet. We don’t have any fun plans this weekend, but will go to the neighborhood bonfire tomorrow night, if the weather allows for us to have one. I hope that you and James have an enjoyable weekend.

    1. Well I think a neighborhood bonfire sounds like a pretty fun plan! ? Thanks for sharing Ginger. Always good to see you here. ?

  5. Looked nice as usual. I purchased the Biscayne blue cardigan and floral shell and love it. Plan on wearing it with white pants also. Also love the shirtdress in that same color. Hum lol

  6. Talbots always has the cutest spring clothes. That skirt is the perfect length on you. I don’t know if it was from Talbots because by the time I get to the end of the post, I’ve forgotten half of what I saw up above. I do remember the beautiful orchid, flowered shell and I’m biting my tongue trying not to click on it. Get thee behind me Satan. I don’t really need it.LOL

  7. I like all of the outfits on you, Kay. The bright pink shell, blue sweater, and jeans are especially striking. You certainly have a curated and a perfect look that is true your personality. That is why your blog is such a blessing to others.
Thanks for BFMD. It always contains a blessing as well.
    Have a wonderful weekend,
    Suzanne

  8. When you cuff your jeans do you roll them up only once? So glad to see you showing Talbots styles again. You have really made a difference in my clothing selection! Thanks for all you do.

    1. You. An do several different things. You can do one long cuff, which is quite in. The JJill jeans I showed have that cuff tacked in. Or you can “roll” a cuff. Or you can fold in two smaller cuffs. Any of those are in style. Just pray around with what looks best to you.

  9. Hi, Kay.
I love your outfits. The mossy greens don’t work with my skin coloring, but look lovely on you. The green and blue combinations are sweet, but the pink is stunning on you. I’m looking at the Patchwork Print Scarf. Regarding scarves what do recommend doing with the labels that peek out regardless of how you tie or drape the scarf? I like to keep labels for the care instructions but I guess most scarves can be hand washed and line dried even if they say to dry clean.

I hesitate wearing rolled jeans being 5’ 3”. I wonder if they don’t look a little weighty and out of proportion on short gals. It conjures up days when I wore my taller sister’s hand me downs. Lol

When I moved out-of-state my Mary Kay consultant offered to mail products to me. Later I was glad to find a local consultant who could actually see my skin and make suggestions.

    BFMD is such a blessing.

    1. Hi Phyllis. Nice to hear from you today. After years of trying to hide those little tags on scarves, I’ve started cutting them out completely. I appreciate when they barely tack them in so they’re easy to cut out. Not always the car. ? I’m not sure about the jeans. But I actually think that if you wear skin colored sandals they could be very flattering. I’d definitely choose some in a petite cut though. Have a great weekend!

  10. We actually had a celebration of life for my mother in law on Friday, but it was a beautiful day, the sun shining down on us, very possibly at her request. She was 92 and had been ready to go for a long time, so we’re glad she no longer has to suffer. And after the funeral we invited my sister in law and her husband over for dinner. It was the first time we’d had people over in a long time, and we all enjoyed being together and sharing memories. And of course we’d all had to get a negative covid test to attend the funeral, so we felt as safe as we could be.

    1. Hello Alison. I’m very sorry for the loss of your mother. But I’m so glad you were able to celebrate her life in a meaningful way with people you care about on a beautiful day. Thank you for sharing. This is the real stuff of life. The things that really matter. Bless you. ?

  11. I love the dress you wore to the dermatologist as well as the denim dress from Talbots! I have a question: how do you keep your necklaces from getting tangled when you layer? I’ve tried, but I usually end up w/ a mess, even the ones I’ve bought w/ multi-strands.

    1. Hi Molly. I don’t really know what to tell you. They just don’t usually give me a problem. I think I kind of situate them occasionally throughout the day without really thinking about it so maybe that’s why??? ?
