Happy Friday! Do you have special plans for the long Memorial Day weekend? I’ll be working, but I don’t mind at all. We’re heading to Maine next Wednesday. Woot woot!! We’re taking a few days to get there and a few to get home, so we’ll be vacationing for two full weeks. (Robber beware! We have a house sitter. Ha!) I’m so ready for a real vacation. But I’m working this weekend to get content loaded for the blog and YouTube channel while I’m gone. I know many of my readers would say don’t bother, but I have contracts and obligations, plus I just love having good content up for my readers and viewers. It truly brings me joy.

All that said, let’s see how I really dressed for my day this week.

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask.

I try to focus on how I styled things and why I wore what I wore rather than product details here. But if you need to know more about a piece, just ask in the comments. Let’s run through this week’s spring outfits.

What I wore on Friday

Friday I went somewhere. That’s all I remember. Ha! Obviously this is one of the indicators that I sorely need a vacation. Another is that stress is starting to show up on my face in my photos. Not so much these mirror selfies, but the outfit photos for other blog posts like this one. Maybe another indicator that I’m in need of a vacation is that I’m rambling a lot. Let’s get back to the topic at hand.

Last Friday I wore my black jeans with a red tank (old from Chico’s) and my silk kimono from Soft Surroundings (several years ago). I love a kimono for a summer completer piece, and my silk kimonos are so lightweight and soft on my skin. Remember, silk is a natural fiber fabric, too, so it’s breathable and good for your skin.

I’ve got my assistant Lucy working with me on these Friday outfit round-up posts, so you’ll notice that she supplied several alternatives for these older items that are no longer available. Yay! They’re in the caption under the photo.

What I Wore on Saturday

I had picked up this simple black “travel skirt” from Athleta last week, so I gave it a whirl on Saturday. I was working in my office that day, but did get out to go for a simple dinner. This outfit felt appropriate for home, but also fun for getting out. And it will make a great travel outfit, too.

I tried the skirt and tank combo both with my neutral colored (makeup) Tory Burch Miller Sandals and my black sporty sandals from Everlane (old and no longer available – similar Black Teva Sandals). I really like it both ways and I don’t remember which way I ended up wearing it out to dinner. Which is your favorite and why?

What I Wore on Sunday

Sunday we went to church and out for a bite to eat. I wore my white denim jeans with a black tank and my Johnny Was silk kimono from several years back. These are pricey, but right now Johnny Was is having a great Memorial Day Weekend sale with an additional 40% off sale items. Of course there are other stunning styles in the sale, too, but I found this similar Johnny Was kimono which is reversible like mine is. It’s longer, but still gorgeous. With the additional savings it’s 50% off. That’s how I bought mine.

By the way, it looks like my Tory Burch Cloud Sandals have been restocked and they’re 30% off right now, too. They won’t go on a deeper sale than that, and I love these sandals. I wore them so much last summer and wearing them again frequently now.

What I wore on Monday

Monday I pulled out my Eileen Fisher lantern pants and coordinating v-neck linen tee again. I think this was in last week’s roundup, too. But I just couldn’t resist wearing it again for a day of working from my home office.

Forgive the bad tan job. Ha! I’d tried out a different self tanner and didn’t get the best results with it this time. I think it’s just different from the other one I’d used and may take a little practice. Then again, I may just return to my old favorite. I think I shared it earlier, so if you purchased it let me know what you think. I’m not sure I would recommend it again, although many people do. But I can highly recommend this old favorite (trial or travel size with mitt).

What I Wore on Tuesday

Tuesday was another day of working from home and getting out for a few errands. I wore my Ann Taylor straight leg mid rise vintage light wash jeans with my citrus graphic tee. I added these raffia statement earrings for minimal accessorizing.

Tory Burch Miller Sandals // J.Crew Earrings // Jeans // Crewneck Tee

Not much to say about that, but it was a comfortable and pretty outfit for the day. Oh, and those jeans are very soft and comfy, true to size. And both the jeans and the citrus graphic tee are available for major discounts today. Ann Taylor is offering 40% off full-price items and an extra 50% off sale items, which these jeans are. And Talbots is offering 30% off everything and 40% off one item.

What I Wore on Wednesday

Wednesday I attended a prayer luncheon for an event I’ll be speaking at here in the Cincinnati area in July. It was a lovely luncheon and time of prayer. I wore my white cropped linen pants from J.Jill with a white tank (similar) and my linen button-tab sleeve shirt. I really had no idea what the other ladies would wear, but this felt very appropriate.

Similar Tank // Linen Button up // Linen Pants // Sandals // Purse // Gold Necklace // Kendra Scott Necklace // Bracelet (Similar)

And sure enough, I felt correctly put together when I got there. Right now J.Jill is offering 30% off all linen and jewelry, so it’s a good time to check out these cropped linen pants (available in other colors; size down, wearing a small) and my favorite linen button-tab sleeve shirt (I have the white one, too; size down). Also, my M.Gemi sandals were discounted earlier this week, but now they are not. However, M.Gemi, an Italian luxury leather brand, is having a big Memorial Day Weekend sale with some great offerings.

Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day with a shopping appointment at Talbots for a future blog post. So I’m sad to say I didn’t get a photo of that outfit. But I wore my black ankle length travel pants and a black and white striped tee with these black sandals. The travel pants and black and white striped tee are on sale and you get another 30% off.

Later today we’ll be uploading our Memorial Day Weekend Sales Headquarters. And we’ll keep it updated through Monday. So be sure to check back in HERE. As of Friday morning, we’re still updating the post, but it should be completely current by noon on Friday, May 26th, 2023.

Blessed for My Day

Recently in an interview I was asked if I have “words to live by” that I’d like to share. I was stumped. I have the Word that I live by. But I don’t have a short, pithy statement that sets the course for my life. Until today. This morning I came across a familiar passage in the Bible that definitely describes my charted course in life, John 8:31-32.

Keep in mind that when Jesus spoke these freeing words, many in the crowd were actually insulted and took offense. Isn’t it interesting how truth can be so offensive to some? But they were turned off by Jesus’ insinuation that they were in bondage to anything. In their minds, they were already free and had no need for deliverance. But in my personal experience I’ve known the chains of bondage well. Many times it wasn’t until those shackles were loosened and I was set free that even realized how imprisoned I had been. And I can assure you that the only thing that set me free was, indeed, the truth…and the Truth.

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~ John 8:31-32

  1. I thought the Tory Birch tan sandals looked best with your black skirt on Saturday. Made your legs look great. Also, I thought the black sandals with that skirt felt a little heavy.

    1. Thanks for sharing, Sandra. I like them both for different reasons, but you’re definitely right that the nude sandals elongate my legs and look a little lighter. 🙂

  2. Hi Kay , what a gorgeous idea the kimono is so pretty , I’ve never thought of that before👌♥️I can’t make up my mind between the nude sandals or black with your black skirt 🤷🏼‍♀️I think the nude look very holidayish ( I know that isn’t even a word😂) and the black I think I would have worn if I was going out for a coffee with my friends . Love your graphic tee and light jeans ‘Look’ again very holidayish( this must be my word for the weekend😂). The blue shirt with the white 😍 love it. So pleased you mentioned you had a house sitter it worries me when you say online about going away ! but then I’m a worrier . I hope you and James have a gorgeous holiday together ♥️Xx

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, Kym. Yes, with houseplants and new plants outside, we thought it best to have someone here to care for things. Thanks so much for the well wishes. We plan to truly enjoy ourselves!
