Early Fall Wardrobe Updates with Big Impact

Happy Friday! If all has gone as planned, I’m spending the morning with my brother and sister-in-law and then going to my friends’ lake house this afternoon to spend the weekend with them and my daughter, son-in-law and grandbaby. Getting ready to be out of town and without WiFi meant I didn’t get my usual How I Really Dressed for My Day post ready for today. So I thought I’d just punt and take you shopping with me. I’ve been looking for early fall wardrobe updates with big impact.

Early Fall Wardrobe Updates

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I’ve been scouring our favorite websites to find just a few choice pieces to add to my wardrobe now. I want things that will serve me well for early fall and that can be layered into the cooler weeks, too. I’m looking for outfit makers, things that really set the vibe and add some interest. No need for boring basics, make sure they have some punch.

So I filled a shopping boutique below with my favorite new arrivals from several popular stores, including Loft, Ann Taylor, Talbots, Evereve, Madewell and more. You may be ready to shop or you may just want to “window shop” for inspiration. I’ve added notes to each item sharing a little about why I love it. Let’s have fun with this!

Thanks so much for shopping along with me. To shop the items above, just click on the photo and you’ll go straight to the retail website. Did you see the items I’ve purchased? Not many, but just enough to kickstart my fall wardrobe during the early weeks.

Blessed for My Day

When I started Dressed for My Day my mission was two-fold. I wanted to keep myself accountable to get dressed everyday and show up as the best version of myself, even though my kids were grown and gone and life had changed. Sensing that other women in my same stage of life often struggle with pulling themselves together just as much as I do, I also wanted to encourage and inspire others to keep getting dressed stylishly and thoughtfully. It’s so important to get dressed for the kind of day we want to have.

And what kind of day is that? Hopefully each day we make an effort to fulfill God’s calling in our lives. He is not through with you or me yet. He still has so much for us to do…in our families, neighborhoods, churches and communities. Are you showing up for the good works God has created you to do? Are you dressed to get the job done?

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. ~ Ephesians 2:10

xoxo, Kay

  1. Enjoyed my window shopping with you. So much fun looking at all the fun things for fall. Even if the weather outside is no where’s near fall temps. Enjoy your time away.

  2. I am hard pressed to find a good pair of brown (chocolate/root beer) colored trousers…wide leg, high rise please. I am finding nothing other than a tweed or plaid. Help! Is brown not done these days?

    1. I noticed the Madewell wide-leg pants that Kay has pictured above in claret, also come in carob (a deep brown). They’re casual, a patch pocket style, but very good looking.

  3. Thanks for all the styles, etc.
Yes, the hat is a cute color, BUT it’s a New York Yankees logo — so not trending in many parts of the country, especially here in New England.

  4. Hi Kay, I almost purchased a denim dress in the NSale, but decided I wouldn’t wear it enough to justify the cost. It was cute, though, and I was very tempted! Oh well! Anyhow, I love how you have shown that a small number of well chosen purchases really can extend one’s wardrobe.

  5. Great post! I love all of the ideas for early fall and found it a great help for some fall shopping. I would love a post on how to wear the new strap Mary janes. I love the look, but am finding them challenging to style.
