The Keys to Effortless Summer Skirt Outfits

For me, the key to topping a summer skirt is choosing a shirt that doesn’t have to be tucked in. But that’s not just any top.

It’s essential to look for a top that is “cropped” so that it doesn’t hang too low on your hips. I prefer a top that just covers the waistband of my skirt, ending at the top of my hips. This length helps to define my waist visually without being tucked in.

It’s also nice to choose a top with an interesting neckline. That doesn’t mean the neckline has to be “fancy,” just a little more interesting than a basic tee. A Johnny collar, polo or full front button-up all work nicely to add just a bit of interest. That said, I do love a classic, fitted tee with a summer skirt, too.

I also suggest that we keep our skirt outfits simple this summer. Elevated simplicity seems to be the style de jour. This easy-breezy 100% cotton poplin skirt begs for a simple, casual top. With the classic taupe brown, black and white stripes, I can wear a simple top in any of those colors for a coordinated look.

My 100% cotton knit polo button-front shirt keeps this skirt casual and easy, but the black color and slender fit make it a bit more elevated. And below I’ve worn the same skirt with a close-fitting ribbed white polo top.

That top is actually a bit long for my liking, so I turned it up inside at the hemline. The key is simply to define the waist visually.

And the final key to styling an effortless summer skirt outfit is to choose a pair of summery sandals to complete the look.

I love wearing cognac accessories to add a richness to the outfit. So I wear my Tory Burch Miller sandals almost daily during the summer. And they’re almost a perfect match for my cognac brown Parisa Wang Gabrielle East-West shoulder bag. You can use code KAY12 at Parisa Wang for 12% off your purchase. The quality is pretty amazing on these bags.

Blessed for My Day
It’s a good day to praise the Lord! How has He proven Himself faithful this week? How has He blessed you unexpectedly? In what ways have you seen Him move on your behalf? Have you learned something about His character that surprises you?
When we praise the Lord for what we see of Him, it’s like giving a standing ovation and shouting, “encore, encore!” He is more likely to show up and “do it again” when we acknowledge His goodness and steadfast love. God is not our puppet, so I’m not suggesting we pull strings to get Him to behave to our liking. But I’m simply noting that God responds to the praises of His people.
I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. ~ Psalm 138:2
