Welcome to Dressed for My Day! A couple of weeks ago we visited Savannah, Georgia, on a beautiful day. Technically it wasn’t spring, but it sure did feel like it. Today I’m sharing the comfortable, casual spring look I wore for touring the historical city.

If I’m going to be doing a lot of walking, but I’m also pausing for brunch at a somewhat posh diner and ducking in and out of sweet boutiques, I like to dress in a comfortable but also polished outfit. I want my shoes to be great for walking, but I also want them to look fashionable and coordinate with my outfit. And I want my clothing to be breathable and cool, but also hold up to airconditioned restaurants and shops. Yeah, it’s a tall order!

Comfortable Casual Spring Look for Touring the Town

On this morning when we set out for brunch it was still cool, but the forecast promised sunshine and rising temperatures. So I donned my easy, relaxed fit chinos and a lightweight, sweater-knit sweatshirt. I finished the outfit off with my new favorite retro sneakers, which keep my feet so comfortable for walking but also look fresh and current.

What I Wore to Savannah

Since comfortable shoes really are essential for touring a town, let’s start here. These New Balance by J. Crew Sneakers truly are some of the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever worn. Keep in mind that they’re not really made for hardcore exercise as much as they are for fashion. But New Balance wouldn’t lead us wrong by creating anything less than a great, durable sneaker.

So I find that these New Balance by J. Crew Sneakers really are the intersection of modern fashion and comfortable, casualwear. They run true to size for me, come in half sizes, and are also available in navy and tan. While they don’t come in a narrow width, if you have a narrow foot you might find these work really well for you. They’re not as wide as most running shoes. Oh, and these sweet shoes are well less than $100.

I wore my sneakers with these Zella no-show socks. I’ve learned that every pair of no-show socks works differently with different shoes. But I can attest that, at least on my feet, these Zella no-show socks stayed put beautifully with my New Balance by J. Crew Sneakers all day.

Cotton Sweater

My next essential for an outfit worthy of touring the town was a breathable, lightweight cotton sweater. I wanted one that would keep me cool enough through all the walking, but also warm enough when we paused to eat in an air conditioned diner on this mild day. This textured sweater-knit sweatshirt, which I also featured in this previous vacation post, is beyond yummy! Because it’s 100% cotton, it’s so soft on the skin. I’m wearing a small, and unfortunately this blue is almost sold out. But the sweater-knit sweatshirt also comes in a pretty pale cameo rose. And I’ve linked to other 100% cotton sweaters in the shopping widget below. The ones from Talbots are 25% off!

Cotton Chinos

My chinos are 98% cotton with just a touch of Spandex for comfortable stretch and ease of movement. It looks like Talbots did not replenish my sandcastle color for this season, but the rocky beach is a similar traditional khaki color. And of course, these relaxed chinos come in other great neutrals and fun colors, too. I’ve turned mine up a couple of times at the hem for a fun, sporty look.

By the way, Talbots is having their Spring Style Event right now with 25% off your purchase. You can check out the full spring collection here.

Faux Leather Tote

I’m so glad I carried my faux leather classic tote on our road trip. It looked nice with everything I wore and carried all my essentials (from sunglasses to sunscreen to floppy hat to lipstick to snacks). And yet, as much as I prefer keeping my bag off the floor or other less sanitary surfaces, I didn’t mind too much when this very reasonably priced faux leather classic tote wound up on the floorboard of the car or even on the ground. That’s just the way things go sometimes when you’re on the road!

Comfortable Casual Spring Look

As I generally do when on vacation, I kept my jewelry minimal but effective. I wore my small split hoop earrings from Talbots and my adjustable Olive necklace from Kendra Scott. I always carry this necklace when I travel because I can adjust the length to work with almost every neckline I wear.

Thanks for dropping in today. This was just a real day-in-the-life post, so makeup was minimal. I was on vacation after all. But I still wanted to share this comfortable, casual spring look that I wore to tour the town. Have a blessed and beautiful day!

Blessed for My Day

It can be scary to open ourselves up to the scrutiny of other people. Have you put yourself in a role or situation recently where others evaluated your performance, appearance, knowledge or skill level? That’s hard, isn’t it?

But we can always trust God to evaluate us. In fact, He never bothers to evaluate such superficial things anyhow. He is more concerned with matters of the heart. And when we do invite God to examine our hearts so that we can grow in holiness and Christlikeness, we can be assured that He will be honest, direct, but also gracious and loving. And God only evaluates us to redeem and grow us, never to belittle us.

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! ~ Psalm 139:23-24

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  1. I really enjoyed this post. Thank you for sharing the “Blessed for my Day” message as well. You started my day off in a good way.

  2. Hi Kay,
I would love to see a post on what you and your hubby are doing to look and feel your best for your daughter’s wedding! I’m in a rut and just don’t feel good in any of my clothes no matter how cute they are. It’s amazing how 10 extra pounds can drag you down.

  3. Love the color of the sweater. It looks nice on you. It made, what could of been an ordinary boring outfit into a cute put together outfit. Nice BFMD. We need to see ourselves as Jesus sees us. Bless you.

  4. Love this outfit! It is the perfect thing to wear while shopping to look nice and be comfy!! I have been looking at those NB shoes for a while, and I may pull the trigger after seeing them on you with a cute outfit! I also love your devotions at the end of your posts—thanks for sharing!

  5. Kay,
The chinos with the cotton sweater look so nice and comfortable. Going inside places with A/C blasting has always been a concern of mine so I’m glad you mentioned that. I usually bring a light sweater in my tote just in case. The links to the cotton sweater result in a blank screen. I will try again.
So many exciting events ahead for you, I’m sure will look stunning!

    1. I know the J.Jill site was down until about 5pm today (Tuesday), so that’s why the link didn’t work earlier. Please try again!!

  6. You look comfortable and so put together in this outfit! I know that you are looking forward to the bridal showers for Abigail. This is such an exciting time for your family!

  7. Nice and comfy!

There is a book based on scientific studies that says just weighing yourself twice a day will help you lose weight! Apparently what they said before is false. The book has other interesting suggestions too. It’s called “How Not to Diet” by Dr. Greger. It is all based on actual studies.

  8. I really like this outfit, and the blue and tans go so good together. I also like your necklace – it stands out but is not overpowering. I also liked yesterdays post about the essentials. I particularly liked that you mentioned crop flare leg pants. I am going to look for a pair, as I’m not that crazy about straight legs. Also, as a line dancer and line dance instructor, I am excited to hear that you have taken up line dancing! It is really the best exercise and it’s fun at the same time.

  9. Kay, thanks for sharing your “strolling around Savannah” outfit! One question. I know you said the shoes were “true to size”, and it that a 9-1/2 for you? I usually take a 9-1/2, but needed a 10 in my Brooks athletic shoes (I like to wear thicker sports socks with them). Since you mention they are narrower than most, I am wondering if I should size up to a 10. I like having a wide toe box. I really love the Navy ones! Thanks for your input!!
And I agree with another poster who said she’d like to know how you and James are slimming down for the wedding coming up!

    1. Hi Sue. You should probably size up if you have a wide toe frame and like to wear thick socks. My socks are very thin and I have a bit of a narrow foot. I don’t wear narrow shoes, but my foot is more narrow than wide. The navy shoes look like a great option.

  10. Savannah is one of my favorite places to visit. Here recently when I’m in a position where I’m not sure what the day will bring I wear a button up blouse/shirt generally a bLue and white one. For me it’s an extremely versatile piece. You can layer over it, under it, tuck it, leave it out, half tuck-yes I still do it, twist and tuck the hem, tie the hem, etc. It also translates as dressier and in many cases cooler than a t-shirt.
