Happy Monday! I noticed that Talbots is wrapping up their Friends & Family Spring Event with 30% off sitewide today. So I thought I’d share one of the pieces I ordered from their May collection. I’m styling my new striped linen boyfriend shirt two ways.

I knew this outfit formula wasn’t necessarily original, but I didn’t realize I’d worn my striped linen boyfriend shirt almost exactly the way Talbots shows it on their website. Ha!

striped linen boyfriend shirt

I simply wore the striped linen boyfriend shirt over a pink ribbed tank and my Veronica Beard white jeans that I’ve had for three years now. These sailor jeans from Talbots would be a comparable choice.

Striped Linen Boyfriend Shirt

This is actually how I wore the striped linen boyfriend shirt to church yesterday. I wore it loose and open over the tank. The boyfriend shirt fits true to size nicely, and it’s also available in other solid colors, white and flax. It’s called a boyfriend shirt, I’m assuming, because it’s longer than a traditional button-up shirt.

But a second way to wear the boyfriend shirt is with a couple of buttons fastened (or not) and the front shirttail tied at the waist. I turned up the back of the shirttail into itself.

I personally prefer to style the longer shirt this way because it just looks more polished, pulled together and figure flattering. (But I wore it loose yesterday morning so that it wouldn’t be wrinkled when we stopped to take photos after church.) Both styling techniques are viable options depending on your body shape and personal style goals.

Sandals

I liked how these platform sandals subtly add some interest while not competing with the shirt. And they work nicely with this length pant. Remember, metallic shoes are so current.

jewelry

You’ll be seeing a lot of my Julie Vos jewelry this summer. I love how this bright Aztec gold works with bright and colorful summer outfits. I’m wearing my favorite fern delicate gold necklace with my X post earrings. And at my wrist I added more color with my Nassau demi stone bracelet, which almost mimicks the colors in my shirt perfectly, and the Catalina stone bangle with iridescent peony pink stones.

My straw handbag is one I purchased a few years ago, so it’s no longer available. I got my mom one for Mother’s Day that year, too. We LOVE pulling them out to use each summer. Buy yourself a good quality summer bag and you’ll use it over and over for years. Spartina 449 is offering 25% off select handbags with code HANDBAGS25 for a limited time. There are plenty to choose from and the prices are good.

Remember, the Talbots Friends & Family Event ends today. You get 30% off your entire purchase, including markdowns. And they are advertising an additional 20% off incentive if you open a Talbots card, too. I’ve had a Talbots credit card for all my adult life, and I pay it off each month. Thanks so much for stopping in!

Blessed for My Day

Recently I’ve been reading through the book of Ruth in the Bible for my morning devotional time. This precious love story filled with devotion and sweet redemption is a breath of fresh air after reading through Judges in the days before. Every time I read the short four chapters of this book, I see things I had never seen before. For instance, this time I have loved the gracious words Boaz spoke to Ruth in chapter 2, verse 12 when he said, “May the Lord reward your work, and may your wages be full from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” What a blessing those words must have been to woman who wasn’t secure in her future, much less her daily sustenance.

Boaz later rose to be Ruth’s kinsman redeemer, which meant he married her, the widow of his relative, and took her and her mother-in-law Naomi into his home. Then God used this devoted and loyal couple to continue the line of Judah to the coming Messiah, our redeemer, Jesus Christ. This story reminds us that God rewards loyalty and kindness, but it also demonstrate to us the supreme loyalty and graciousness of our Savior and Redeemer.

I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. ~ Job 19:25

  1. I’m reading right along with you and yes, it’s nice to get out of Judges!

I really prefer the way you wore that striped shirt in the second style. Just proportionately I think it looks better on most of us and you’ve taught us that 1/3 and 2/3 rule and the shirt like you did it’s so flattering. Not for everybody but for you and me I think that’s the best way to wear that shirt. But we all like to have options!

  2. Kay, I just bought that stripped boyfriend shirt yesterday at my Talbots.
I have several perfect crops to pair it with.
On May 5th, I will be one of the models for the trunk show in Marlton NJ.
Have a fantastic trip to Alaska. We went several years ago and the beauty of the glaciers was astounding! Enjoy!!

  3. Hi Kay and what a nice look! Thanks for introducing Spartina 449…lovely pieces. There’s a Tommy Bahama store here and I made a few purchases and the price point is similar. Perfect for our Houston summers!
    Enjoy the day!

  4. That ribbed tank is great. I have it in sunlit coral and ivory. The boyfriend shirt looks better tied – Susie commented that the proportions look better, I agree.
Ruth is one of the sweetest stories in Scripture.

  5. Hiya Kay Love your outfit , lovely zingy Spring/Summer colours , you look fresh and pretty , I like your boyfriend shirt tied too 👌🏻Very feminine 💖loved the Ruth Scripture too . You and James have a fabulous time on your Alaskan Cruise 💞

  6. Kay, I want to tell you when we went on an Alaska cruise with Princess Cruises in May/June 17 years ago that I remember reading mosquitoes were going to be bad, but I don’t recall having a problem with them.
Our family loved a Skagway helicopter flight- seeing/glacier dog sledding. That was a definite favorite.
I know you’ll have a wonderful, unforgettable time. Our children were ages 19 to 23. Our trip ended with a proposal of marriage to our older daughter! We were also celebrating several children’s high school and college graduation.

Also, I also want to say that your granddaughter is so precious, and I so enjoy your spiritual insights as well as all the styling tips . It is a real joy following you and I look forward to receiving your emails and YouTube videos. Thank you!

    1. Thank you so much for your kindness, Lisa. It’s a joy serving you ladies. And I appreciate you sharing about your Alaska trip. That was undoubtedly the trip of a lifetime, in more ways than one. Yes, I’ve heard mixed “reviews “ about the mosquitoes. Ha! I figure we’ll buy a small something in Vancouver to protect against them. But we are planning on wearing long sleeves and pants the whole time. And they generally leave me alone anyhow. 😉
