What to Prioritize in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

#NSale 2023

Monday morning, August 17, at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to the public. If you’re interested and you’ve not already been shopping this pre-fall mega-sale as a Nordstrom cardholder, this is the time to jump in. The #NSale is open to EVERYONE Monday. And yes, things are selling out. That’s just how it goes. But instead of focusing on what is gone, let’s focus on the tremendous buys that are still available in this worthwhile sale. So in this post I’m sharing what to prioritize in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale as it opens to non cardholders. So many great buys!

My NSale Priorities

It really doesn’t make sense to have sour grapes over things selling out. I’ve had it happen to me, too. In fact, I had ordered a top recommended by another blogger just Friday and Sunday I got a notice that my order had been cancelled because it was now out of stock. That’s happened to me before, so I wasn’t surprised. In a sale like this orders come in fast and simultaneously, so there are going to be inventory snafus at times.

But instead of getting upset about the top, I just added it to my wish list in another size and I’m going to keep an eye on it. Returns will start coming in this week and you will indeed see items restocked, at least in a size here and there. So if your heart is set on something that is now gone, you don’t have to give up comletely.

Then again, it might be wise to set your sights elsewhere because there are so many great buys remaining the this pre-fall sale. I thought I’d share a few of my favorites that are indeed still available. In fact, these are some of my very favorite purchases.

jeans and leather jacket
jeans (sized up to a 31) // leather jacket (wearing a 10, TTS) // boots (TTS)

Pardon the pictures, but I snapped these Sunday afternoon after a week of company and full day of activities with my kids. I look a bit of a mess. Ha! But I wanted you to see these #NSale priorities. I love these Paige Cindy high waist raw hem straight leg jeans. These ankle length jeans fit so nicely (I sized up one to a 31, as I frequently do in premium denim). And I especially love the faded black or grey color. I’m telling you, this color is so on trend, but it will be hard to find later. That’s how it was last year. And these will be so versatile in your closet. Right now these jeans seem to be pretty well stocked, but in the end they will sell out. Definitely my favorite jeans in the sale.

But I also love the moonlight pink Allsaints leather jacket (wearing a 10, TTS) above. I have the same jacket in a deep oxblood, but this one is going to be so nice with lighter wash denim and grey this year. Finally, those Vince boots (TTS) above are another great buy. Yes, all three of these items are pricey, but they are such good fits and so versatile, I know they will all be worth the investments.

jeans and longline blazer
jeans (sized up to a 31) // boots (TTS) // jersey blazer // Allsaints small Allington tote // t-shirt not in sale and no longer available

I’m wearing those same Paige jeans above with the Allsaints Aleida jersey blazer in storm cloud blue. This is a lightweight, longline blazer that is perfect for the woman who wants the added polish of a blazer, but still wants a very casual, relaxed vibe. Allsaints calls it storm cloud blue, but it definitely reads more like a bluish grey to me. I haven’t steamed it yet, but a lot of the wrinkles just fell out of it naturally. Really nice! I’m wearing a size 10 very easily.

Ooh! And let’s not pass over that Allsaints small Allington tote, which isn’t all that small at all. The camel color seems to be sold out, but it’s still available in this winter orchid red and black. This particular shade of red is so on trend this fall and winter, so adding an accessory in this color could be really smart. I love it!

Coat and Boots
Vince wool & alpaca blend jacket (TTS; wearing a medium) // Steve Madden pointed toe boots // Mother the Rambler zip ankle jeans (not in the sale) (similar at Nordstrom) // brown camp shirt (not in sale)

The Mother the Rambler zip ankle jeans and the brown camp shirt I’m wearing above are not in the sale, but they are both available. But I put them on to model the Vince wool & alpaca blend jacket with the Steve Madden pointed toe boots, two of my absolute favorite purchases in this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The wool & alpaca blend jacket wears like a thick and luxurious sweater jacket. I love this “brittle” color, but I’ve actually ordered it in the black and will decide on one of them. I think the brittle is such a lovely, neutral camel, but I’m planning on wearing more grey and black this fall and winter, so we’ll see. It runs true to size.

And those Steve Madden pointed toe boots are also just a perfect soft camel color, so hard to find but so desirable, especially for wearing with light wash jeans, grey or even white. They fit so nicely true to size and feel very comfortable. I also appreciate the modest heel height.

Rails Sweater and Jeans
Rails sweater // Rails jeans

The Rails sweater above was sold out last I checked, but I really expect to see some sizes replenished as returns start coming in. It runs large and I’ve sized down to a small. So shoppers who ordered their usual sizes may be returning those soon. Anyhow, I mainly wanted to show you the Rails jeans above. I generally don’t like jeans with little to no stretch, but these work really nicely. They fit great if you size up one size. I’m wearing a 31 VERY comfortably even though they have no stretch. And I think they are a great looking jean.

Vince Skirt and Sweater
wool & alpaca blend sweater // smocked waist skirt // slingback flats

I know this red will not suit everyone, but it is very on trend this year, so I’m going for it. And this Vince smocked waist skirt is so flattering. I haven’t steamed it yet, so it will look even more beautiful once I do. It’s designed just like my favorite floral print skirt. And it works beautifully with this short sleeved wool & alpaca blend sweater. But that sweater will work so nicely with other things in my fall wardrobe, too. It also runs true to size; wearing a medium in both.

Those slingback flats are about sold out in the tan, but they come in black and red and an animal print, too. Very comfortable TTS.

pajamas
Nordstrom moonlight pajamas (plus sizes)// Barefoot Dreams robe // Ugg slippers from last year (similar in sale)

I really like picking up some pajamas in the anniversary sale. These Nordstrom moonlight pajamas (plus sizes) are still available in limited colors. They’re very soft; similar to Soma’s Cool Nights collection, but for a better price. I think I got the wrong size in the Barefoot Dreams robe. I’m wear a L/XL and probably should have gotten the S/M.

One of my favorite categories to shop in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the beauty exclusives, and so many of these are still available. I picked up both the Elemis Pro-Collagen cleansing balm and the Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash. I use the former in the evening and the latter in the mornings in the shower. I purchased or already own all of the items shown below, too.

clockwise from top left: Tory Burch travel size fragrance set // Jo Malone cologne collection // Riki skinny lighted mirror // Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair + Travel sizes // Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash // Voluspa mini candle set // Necessaire Body Wash Two-Pack // St. Tropez self tan classic giant size // Elemis Pro Collage Cleansing Balm

You can see more of my beauty favorites in this recent blog post.

I’m sharing more of my favorites in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that are still available below. But inventory will be changing rapidly, so please give me a little grace if they have sold out since posting. And remember, these are not just available items…these are available items I truly love and highly recommend. I’ve either ordered them and tried them, tried them on in the store or already own them.

I thought I’d mention quickly a few things that I’ve ordered that should arrive today, too. I have high expectations for these Linea Paolo mules. And I’m looking forward to trying this plaid zip trucker jacket, too. This button-up cardigan and this shawl collar cardigan should arrive today. I’ll probably keep one of them. And this pullover sweater looks so pretty to me. Again, high hopes!

Blessed for My Day

When I focus on my problems they grow larger and heavier. I begin to feel overwhelmed and defeated as I imagine things going from bad to worse. I feel small and incapable of fixing everything that is wrong. And somehow my problems even seem to multiply the longer I dwell on them.

But when I shift my gaze from my burdens to my Lord, things change. The problems don’t necessarily go away, nor do they always shrink in size. But I begin to feel less of the weight on my shoulders as I realize that I have a Savior who has offered to carry those problems. Not only that, but He is able and powerful to change things, to do things I could never do. The more I praise Jesus and exalt Him, the more manageable life feels.

For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over every ruler and authority. ~ Colossians 2:9-10

  1. Hi, Kay! Thanks so much for all your work on the Nordstrom Sale. I really appreciate your recommendations.
I have been going back and forth on those Sam Edelman booties. Do you think they are true to size? I’m trying to decide on my usual 8, or if I should size up with that pointed toe.
    Thank You!

    1. For me they are slightly difficult to get on my feet, only slightly. But once they are on they fit comfortably true to size. That said, I’d consider your foot shape. I have Egyptian feet which means my toes go exactly shortest to longest from little toe to big, so they work well with pointy toe boots and shoes. But if your toes are a different length configuration or you have wide toe area you’d probably do well to size up. Make sense?
