What I Wore to a Fall Wedding

Hello dear friend! I’m so glad you stopped in today. We’re enjoying some true fall weather today and it is bliss! I thought I would share with you a few photos from the wedding I attended last weekend. My nephew married his lovely bride in north Georgia at a wedding venue. I don’t actually have photos of the wedding, mind you. Just photos James took of me as we passed the time between the sweet ceremony and the buffet dinner. We also took photos of my family, but I wasn’t sure they’d all want to make an appearance on my blog. I do have a photo of my Dear Abby and me, though!

If you follow me on Instagram, you may know that my daughter Abigail writes a short daily devotional in my Instagram stories. She is doing such a wonderful job taking us through a different theme each week. My dear Abby begins with a short passage from the Bible, shares a few truths from that passage, helps us consider how the passage speaks into our lives, offers us additional reading and closes with a short prayer.

Me and Abigail

Abigail loves interacting with so many of you this way weekly, but, as my part-time contract employee, she also helps with other behind-the-scenes tasks here at Dressed for My Day. It was so lovely spending time with her and her fella during the weekend of the wedding. She lives in metro Atlanta. Oh, and most Mondays she makes a personal appearance on my Instagram stories, introducing the week’s theme. We’ll have to see if she’s there today!

Anyhow! On with the wedding attire! Abby’s dress is a couple of years old, by the way. She wore it to her brother’s wedding, which I featured in this post.

Jersey Knit 3/4 Sleeve Dress with Ruching // stockings in light nude (no longer available) TTS, wearing size C (similar hose at Macy’s) // block heel pumps // earrings // necklace // watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your order) // shoulder bag (similar)

I thoroughly enjoyed wearing this deep blue Lauren by Ralph Lauren jersey knit dress to the outdoor wedding. The weather was sunny and quite warm that day, but this 3/4 sleeve jersey knit dress would have been perfect for cooler temperatures, too. If there’s one thing Ralph Lauren knows how to do effectively (and there are many!), it’s how to create a figure flattering dress for a woman. I sized up to a 10 in this body shaping dress, as I often do in Ralph Lauren dresses.

Ruching along the waistline or at a diagonal, as with this 3/4 sleeve dress, is such a flattering effect, especially if you need to hide a bit of a tummy. And Ralph Lauren features this effect in many of their dresses. I’ve added a number of equally beautiful and flattering Ralph Lauren dresses for fall and winter in the shopping widget below. I purchased this online at Macy’s, and so that’s where I’ve linked you to for all the dresses and many of my accessories. When I purchased the dress it was significantly reduced in price, but now it’s back at full price.

You can see me wearing a similar styled Lauren by Ralph Lauren dress in this old (quite old!) post and here’s another. So you can see this beautiful ruching is something they use quite often and very effectively. And I like taking advantage of it!

I thought I was being oh so smart wearing my block heeled pumps to the outdoor wedding, since we didn’t know what kind of surface we would be walking on. But, alas, I learned another lesson. Regardless of whether it’s been raining or not (it hadn’t been), don’t wear suede shoes to an outdoor wedding. Evidently they’d been watering the grass earlier in the afternoon and some of it had not dried. I’m going to work on my suede block heel pumps a bit, so hopefully I haven’t ruined them. But learn from my mistake! (Use code KAYHEELS for $40 off your first pair of Ally heels.)

So many readers ask me about panty hose. Yes! You absolutely may wear panty hose. At this time of year I’m just done with self tanner, so I opted for very sheer light nude hose. My light nude color is no longer available in this particular hosiery. But the idea is simply to go with the sheerest hosiery you can find in a shade that is close to the color of your skin or your shoes. Don’t try to match your dress. If you wear a color, match your shoes.

I carried a short shoulder bag in a color close to that of my shoes (my color is no longer available). And I accessorized simply with sparkling gold hoops and a customized multi strand necklace. I’ve been enjoying wearing my watches so much I decided to keep on the one I’d been wearing, and I felt like it was dressy enough to work. (Use code KAYHRMS for 15% off Nordgreen.)

Since I was attending a wedding and not modeling for a photo shoot, my makeup isn’t quite as vibrant as you might be used to seeing it here at Dressed for My Day. I was more concerned about enjoying my family and the special day than I was about freshening up my makeup. But I did wear my Estee Lauder Rebellious Rose lipstick, gloss and blush. I’ve included them in the shopping widget below, too.

Thanks so much for dropping in. I’ve included lots of pretty ruched dresses in the shopping widget. If you’re still looking for a nice dress for fall or winter, you may just find what you’re looking for there!

In every difficult season of our lives, there are lessons to be learned. We might even think of them as treasures we unearth in the hardest ground we must walk. These lessons are valuable and precious. As we come out of those hard days we learn to hold onto them and carry them with us. We don’t want to have to return to that same hard place again, so we try to be mindful of these precious gems of wisdom we have gained.

Do you have those kinds of treasures? According to God’s Word there are those of us who sift through the hard things and find those treasures, and there are those who don’t. How sad. Let’s be women who spend time in God’s Word and in prayer every day so that we can “extract the precious from the worthless.” And then we may just be surprised when God gives us opportunity to share those valuable gems of wisdom and encouragement with others.

Therefore, this is what the Lord says: “If you return, then I will restore you— You will stand before Me; And if you extract the precious from the worthless, You will become My spokesman. ~ Jeremiah 15:19a

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  6. Beautiful picture of and your daughter!
I saved a pair of suede shoes by letting them dry and brushing them with a soft shoe brush. Spray lightly with waterproofing spray and let dry. 3M scotch guard works well.
    Your dress looks perfect!!!

    1. Thanks for that encouragement. I’m going to brush mine out tomorrow. Haven’t had a chance yet. I always spray my suede shoes… except o hadn’t gotten to these. That was a mistake!
