This past weekend we traveled to Georgia for my nephew’s wedding. It was a fun weekend spent visiting with family and new friends. Unfortunately I did not get many pictures of my outfits from the weekend. And that’s a shame because I actually wore clothes from the travel capsule I featured in this video. It was warm, so I couldn’t wear the sweaters. But I did wear the lighter items. Anyhow, I do have one photo from the trip, so you’ll see that in a bit. And I’m saving the photos of what I wore to the wedding to share on Monday.

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

What I Wore Monday to Travel

Monday James and I decided to drive back home through the Smoky Mountains. It was a beautiful day and a lovely drive. The traffic was pretty bad in the National Park areas, but I think that’s to be expected this time of year. Of course the leaves haven’t turned color yet, but the mountains are always gorgeous.

what I Wore Monday
travel pants // Urbanite top // loafers (similar and more economical and here) // earrings // necklace customized with black drusy

I wore my black travel pants from Talbots. Unfortunately they’re almost sold out. I topped them with my dark brown Urbanite top from Athleta. This combination felt so cool and comfortable for our drive. It was a warm day, but I felt great in this breathable shirt and pants. I finished off the look with my black Paul Green loafers from last year. These are similar and I’ve shared more economical options in the shopping widget below.

How I Dressed Tuesday

Tuesday I mostly worked from home. I edit videos on Tuesday. But I also had a lot of emails to catch up on as well as other administrative task. I felt comfortable in my black jeans with this fun long sleeve tee from Madewell. At Madewell you can use code GOSPREE to get 20% off a purchase of $100 or more, 30% off a purchase of $200 or more.

How I Dressed Tuesday
long sleeve tee // noir black jeans // Converse sneakers (I sized down 1 full size) // earrings // watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your purchase) // sunglasses // shoulderbag // belt

I finished off this simple combination with a black leather belt and my black Converse Chuck Taylors (also in white). By the way, if you’re interested in those classic Converse sneakers, definitely size down. The website says to size down 1/2 size. But I ended up going down a full size and they’re still a little roomy.

What I Wore Wednesday

Wednesday I just threw caution to the wind and put on a sweater. Ha! I’m so ready to wear my sweaters I can’t stand it. In fact, cool weather is supposed to finally come our way on Sunday. And right now it looks like it will stick around a while. But on Wednesday I just turned up the fan in my office and put on this dark camel Everyday Sweater by Jenni Kayne. This is a new brand for me, and I’m impressed. This 40% wool, 25% viscose, 25% polyamide, 10% cashmere Everyday Sweater is very soft and has a lovely drape. It comes in six other neutrals, too.

what I Wore Wednesday (9)
sweater // jeans // mules – use code DRESSED15 for 15% off just through October (more economical) // necklace // earrings

I’d just received these darker wash straight leg jeans from Talbots in the mail the day before, so I wanted to give them a whirl. As with my other lighter wash straight leg jeans from Talbots, they ran a little long on me. So I just cut about an inch off with my sewing shears. Now they have a trending raw edge and they are the perfect length for wearing full length, cuffing for an ankle length or even wearing over booties.

By the way, I made a little snafu with these jeans. I received two pair, and I couldn’t understand why I’d ordered two. I figured it was an error I made when placing my order. But I just now realized I ordered a pair in the regular fit and a pair of curvies. I’m wearing the curvy fit, unbeknownst to me at the time. I didn’t need those. I could have kept the regular fit just fine. In fact, I’d wondered why the jeans were a little big and now I know why.

How I Dressed Thursday

You’ve probably seen this outfit before. I shared almost this exact combo in a recent video. I wore this lightweight top and my Talbots everyday relaxed jeans to lunch with my friends and then out to do a little shopping for the videos we’re shooting Saturday.

What I Wore Thursday
jeans // top // sneakers (more economical) // earrings // watch (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your order) // crossbody bag

As in the video, I completed the look with sneakers. This time I wore my Tory Burch Howell sneakers but I can heartily recommend these more economical sneakers from Madewell, too. I enjoyed carrying my olive green crossbody bag from Target. It adds a fun splash of contrasting color and it was the perfect size for my few essentials.

Thanks so much for dropping in today. I really think I’ll be sharing more sweaters and layered looks next week. Yippee! Have a lovely day.

Blessed for My Day

Sister, if you are searching for some emotional healing but coming up short, I want to assure you that your heart wounds can indeed be healed. You do not have to carry around bitterness, anger or sadness forever. Even your grief can turn to joy in time. If your wound is fresh, that may seem impossible, even irreverent. But I assure you, God intends for you to once again feel whole and at peace.

The balm you need for your hurting heart? The Word of the Lord. Spend time in His Word daily, camping out in the book of Psalms if that feels best. The physician who can prescribe the best treatment? Jesus. Remember and obey His instructions to carry your anxieties to Him, forgive those who have offended, seek Him first and pray for your enemies. God has provided healing for your every wound. Allow Him to restore you to health. It may take time. It will take time. But He can heal your hurting heart.

Is there no balm in Gilead?
    Is there no physician there?
Why then has the health of the daughter of my people
not been restored? ~ Jeremiah 8:22

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  1. Kay I know you have gone more casual and looks nice on you, but not my style. I love sweaters and wore a couple this week as it has gotten cooler. Besides jeans I like black or navy pants and blazers. I wear them a lot. Could you show us a few outfits with blazers?
Would have loved to see some of the wedding pictures. Bet you had a lovely time.
    Have a blessed day.

  2. Kay, I retired a year and half ago from teaching. I feel like I am reinventing my style and myself. You have greatly helped me in both areas. I always look forward to your post and your encouraging words.
    Thank you!

  3. Perfect info!
Loved your Fall accessory video. Kudos! You sure know how to explain to all of us!

    Thumbs up!
    ?????????

  4. Good Morning Kay!
i love your everyday picks. Everything you wore looks so very comfortable but yet very put together.

  5. When it comes to Fall, it’s just more fun to get dressed. I pray it gets a little cold so I can justify buying new Fall clothes. It’s been a long summer with everyone so hot behind those masks. Hope springs eternal however so maybe we will be able to drop them soon.
BFMD hit home today. I’ve gone from survival mode to recovery mode over this last year after the death of my husband in Feb so God can heal your heart but joy is going to take a while.

    1. It absolutely is going to take a while Eve. God bless you. I know it’s been a hard year. Thank you for showing up here like you do. You bring me joy.

  6. You show us some lovely sweaters in most of your blogs but they all seem to contain wool or cashmere. Both are allergy triggers for me. Could you recommend some good quality sweaters in the same styles but without any wool or chashmere?

  7. Hi Kay! These outfits are all so cute. Just shows that one can dress casually and comfortably and still look pulled together. I loved the pink top but was surprised at how expensive it is.

  8. I always enjoy your posts. I too am looking forward to wearing my sweaters.
Thank you… helps a lot. I like the look of the black jeans !

  9. Hi Kay,
I wanted to let you know that I visited the Talbot’s store at Fashion Square in Scottsdale, AZ today. I purchased a pair of the straight leg jeans in the dark wash. They are incredibly comfortable! Anyway, I mentioned you to the sales associate who had really helped me zero in on the right pair of jeans for me. I told her your name and showed her your Instagram page. I shared with her that you promoted a lot of Talbot’s clothing and that I’d come to shop for jeans at Talbot’s specifically because you’d recommended their jeans. She was delighted to know this and was going to share our conversation with her coworkers.
Kay, I enjoy your posts and articles so much! I feel as if I can really relate to you in a number of ways and I appreciate how you approach what you do with a sense of style and a perspective of faith! My husband is a retired Lutheran pastor and I am a retired educator. We spent nearly 40 years in ministry. We’re loving retirement and looking forward to traveling and spending more time with our kids and grandkids! Thanks for helping me build my travel wardrobe!

    1. Wonderful to hear, Susan. Thanks so much for sharing this. I’m glad you found some Jeans you can enjoy. I really like mine. You ladies are such a blessing to me. ?
