Scripture Meditation & Memory at DFMD 2023

Happy July! Summer is flying by, isn’t it? Well, I do hope you are getting to enjoy some beautiful sunshine and lovely warmth, along with all things summer. We’ve especially been enjoying seeing the lightening bugs light up our yard each evening. Oh, and taking blog photos at this time of year has been lovely since so many gorgeous blooms are all over the city.

Week 13 Verse

I’m keeping this short today and simply sharing my scripture without much explanation. I’ve mulled over this verse many times through the years, I’m certain. But this week it jumped off the page and begged to be considered more deeply. So I’m not really certain why I’m meditating on Hebrews 11:6, except that it is a powerful truth that the Spirit has led me to prayerfully memorize.

Week 13 Verse

I do know I was compelled this morning to pray through this scripture and to commit to “seek Him” more steadfastly and passionately. And I also am overwhelmed by the fact that He rewards those who do.

    I was just going to memorize verses 16-18, but the words, “hold on to the good” kept calling me. I love this group. I love the challenge of memorizing scripture. Thankful for both.❤️

    1. Try not to be discouraged, Nancy. Instead, try putting your needs in God’s hands, let him know you trust him to do what is best for you and continue with your exercise plan. Then relax and let God take care of it. You will be pleasantly surprised at how God works for your good.

    Ten years ago, i. participated in a Beth Moore Bible study, The Book of James. We were challenged with memorizing the entire 5 chapters of James. I was in the midst of empty nest syndrome, so I did it. Anyone else? Sadly, I didn’t keep practicing it and now only remember certain passages. This passage speaks volumes to me now 10 years later. Maybe I’ll keep adding on. It is a beautiful book of the Bible.

  54. This week I’ve focused on Psalm 121:7-8
    The Lord will keep you from all harm- He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forever.

    It seems that we live in such turbulent times. I give my well-being to God and let him take care of it all.

  57. It has been a busy day getting ready to leave really early in the morning for surgery. I am trusting the surgeon to do a good, even great job on replacing my hip, but ultimately it is God who directs all things and brings healing and recovery. Thus this scripture reminds me of that:
    The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord. Proverbs 21: 31 (ESV) Amen to that. How thankful I am to him for taking care of all the details.

    I’m currently leading a summer study on 1/2/3 John, so I’m looking there for my memory verses! I find this one so helpful, in regard to doing life here on earth! I’m sure you deal with this more than I do….. just because you have “the anonymous” of the World Wide Web who don’t bat an eye at criticism! So often things are said in cyber world that a person would likely never say in a face to face encounter!! I was shocked at some of the reactions with your wonderful interview on Cindy H’s site!! But anyway, this verse helps me to understand why people can say what they say and not take offense.

  80. Part of aging for me has been in my mind. My mind easily drifts to negative thinking and I find myself remembering past failures and difficulties. I want to memorize these verses so that I can meditate on the work of the Lord rather than my own failures.

  102. I have been off and on with this scripture challenge, and sadly more “off” lately. I’ve recently discovered some health issues, nothing that many people haven’t faced, but I got myself in sort of a funk! I’m determined to go back and fill in the weeks I missed, then try to keep current with my bible reading. Since I need reminding apparently of whom I should turn to, I chose this verse from Psalms.

  110. It’s July 6th and I’m trying desperately to catch up for week 12 and week 13. I’ve chosen three verses for these two weeks….
    Psalm 116: 1-2, and vs 7 … “ I have loved the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because He bends down to listen. I will pray as long as I have breath. Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me.
    Jeremiah 29:11. “ For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
    Psalm 103: 5. “ He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s “
    The month of June swept over me. There was a family crisis, overwhelming demands at work, and some deadlines nearly missed.
    Through it all were many prayers and many tears.
    Some how in God’s grace, the month ended with relief, laughter and even a celebration! I am so blessed and grateful to belong to God, my Father who not only hears my prayers, he bends down to ease my fears. Once again He revealed His plan for my life and renewed my strength .

    But the Lord said to me “my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, therefore, I will boast or more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

    I love this scripture to remember that when I make mistakes, I know that God’s grace is sufficient for me.

  121. Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, or the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
