Women over 50 have known for decades the value of a matching set. Maybe we’ve worn coordinated suits to work, sweater sets to church or matching joggers and jackets to the gym. Those pairings felt easy and stylish in their day. But aren’t those matching sets a little yesteryear? Not in 2026! Coordinating pieces are definitely having a moment this year, and this is one trend we can embrace with flair. Let’s start with a fresh, matching linen set you’ll wear all summer.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

The beauty of a matching set of any kind is that you can wear the pieces together or separately. The coordinating pieces give you versatility and extended wear as they weave themselves in and out of outfits you enjoy wearing all season long. Today I’m styling two beautiful white linen pieces from Talbots that I will mix and match into easy breezy outfits throughout the summer. Trust me, I’m just getting started. But let’s check out three simple ways I’ve worn them here.

the matching set

Of course the most obvious option is to wear the white classic linen single button blazer with the coordinating linen straight ankle pants.

Both pieces are constructed in 100% linen and have an ivory polyester lining. You can machine wash the pants and supposedly even dry them in the dryer, but I would recommend laying flat to dry on a rack. Talbots suggest dry cleaning the jacket, which definitely sounds smart to me.

Both pieces fit true to size; I’m wearing a misses 10 in each one. They do come in a full range of sizes in misses, petite, plus and plus petite options. For this first coordinated outfit, I kept the contrast in intensity low for my personal coloring with a linen stripe v-neck top in white and ice blue. It also runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium for a relaxed fit.

Because the tee is a pleasantly cropped length, I did not tuck it in. The pants do not have a visible button or belt loops, so I think they will look best with shorter tops worn untucked. I kept the visual line of the outfit uninterrupted and long by finishing the look with sheer, flesh-toned jelly sandals. They are comfortable enough for limited wear, such as going to church or lunch. But I would not do a lot of walking in these.

A matching linen set like this one with a blazer and pants will give you polish and sophistication that is still seasonally casual. This is the kind of outfit I wear frequently to church or a women’s event during the warm months.

The next way I can integrate this matching set into my wardrobe rotation is to wear just the linen pants. Honestly, there are so many ways to wear a white linen pant, skirt or shorts during the spring and summer; the options are endless.

But I’ve used one of my favorite spring and summer outfit formulas to create a look that is perfect for lunch with friends or Mother’s Day brunch. I’ve topped the pants with a linen blazer from my closet featuring soft pastels and bold plaid. And underneath that jacket I’ve worn a simple ribbed tank top in one of the colors from the jacket.

I completed this look with another gorgeous flesh-toned (for me) sandal, this one in suede. These fit comfortably true to size.

This pairing maintains the luxe feel of the linen trousers for an elevated casual vibe. It looks summery and fresh, but you won’t feel over dressed for a simple meeting or luncheon in this combination. My blazer is no longer available, but I’ve linked you to a similar one from the same brand here. And I have a good selection of lower priced options included in the shopping widget at the bottom of the post.

just the jacket

And the final way I can wear my matching linen set all summer is to wear just the crisp, white linen blazer with a t-shirt and jeans. I love the juxtaposition of a classy linen blazer and heels paired with a simple t-shirt and jeans.

Again, to keep the contrast in intensity low, I wore light wash jeans and that same blue and white striped linen tee.

By the way, I sized down to a 29 in the jeans. If you prefer a higher contrast in intensity with your white jacket, you could wear dark wash jeans and a brighter top.

Of course there are so many other ways to style these versatile pieces. The bottom line is, when in doubt, buy the matching set. They’re very in style right now and they’ll stretch your wardrobe in beautiful directions. The pieces I’ve shown above also come in other colors, but only the indigo blue (navy) and branch brown come in the same style pants and jacket. You will, however, find other matching linen pants in different silhouettes at Talbots. And I’ve included a few fun jackets that could be worn with linen pants in the shopping widget below too.

Thank you so much for stopping in today. Let me know in the comments what additional outfits you would create with these versatile pieces of the matching linen set.

Blessed for My Day

As I was growing up, my parents instilled in me a growing sense of independence. They wanted me to be able to make my way in the world with confidence and poise, navigating difficult decisions and challenges as I faced them. Truthfully, they also wanted me to be able to take care of myself, to hold a job and pay my bills, to stand up for myself when needed and to know when I should walk away or avoid something. So they raised me to be independent.

I’m grateful for those life skills, as I’m sure you are, too, if your parents or other wise adults helped you to form them. But I remember early in adulthood realizing that, as a Christian, I also needed to learn to be dependent. Having somewhat perfected living independently, I needed to learn to lean on others when it is appropriate. I came to understand that it’s okay to ask for help and that community is a source of inspiration and support. But most importantly I had to learn how to rest into my relationship with the Lord. It’s still a struggle some days to let go of control, but with the Lord I have to just abide in Him so that He can accomplish His perfect will in and through me. When I occasionally begin to feel exhausted from the struggle, I soon realize that I’ve been fighting God for control – in little ways and bigger ones – and I need to let go again. Abiding in Him is not a passive position; it’s one of intentional release, practiced patience and trust in Him.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. ~ John 15:4-5
