While it’s still warm outside, cooler temperatures are fast approaching. So I like to use this time to add a few versatile layering pieces to my wardrobe that will help me create stylish and weather appropriate outfits for those transitional weeks as we move into fall. Today I’m teaming up with Talbots to share with you four ways I’ve styled this beautiful azure blue relaxed 90s blazer.

4 Ways to Wear the Talbots Relaxed 90s Blazer Now & Later
The relaxed 90s blazer is made from a lightly textured cotton fabric with 1% Spandex for just a little bit of stretch. I’m wearing my usual size 10, but I think I could have worn an 8 for a slightly more fitted look, so go with your smaller size. It’s lined with a navy and white striped polyester and Spandex blend fabric for ease of movement and extra polish. This is meant to be a very relaxed, somewhat casual jacket, but it can be styled beautifully a number of ways.

First I created a wear-to-work look with my rattan Southampton straight leg pants and a pretty floral ruffle top in shades of brown, ivory and blue. The top has a soft, flouncy ruffle all around the v-neckline that cascades down the front of the shirt, too. It slips on over your head easily. The shell is bra friendly, but I chose to wear mine with a razorback bra for added security.

You could also style this pretty floral top with light ecru jeans or blue jeans. It fits true to size.

I’ve had my Southampton straight leg pants for a few years now, and I find them to be so versatile year-round. I wear my true to size 10 for a comfortable fit. They come in several other colors as well, but this rattan works beautifully here. I completed the look with a cognac belt and coordinating wedge sandals. The sandals fit true to size and wear so comfortably. They’ll be a great shoe for transitioning into the fall, but I’ll definitely wear them now, too.

I think this first look is great for most work environments, but would also work for church, professional meetings or other outings where you want to look polished and pulled together.

Next I styled the the azure blue relaxed 90s blazer with a ruffle soft shell top in the same color. If you’ve been following me for long, you know how much I love this particular style formula. Wearing the same color top and outer piece is so sharp and will always give you good results.

Just to show a different way to style the jacket, this time I left the shell untucked. If you do prefer to leave your top untucked, choosing one in the same color as your jacket is a smart way to go. That way you maintain optimal proportions and lines.

Personally, I would probably tuck the top next time and add a belt. But this slightly “undone” look works beautifully with the relaxed 90s blazer.

This next look with the relaxed 90s blazer is my favorite. For an everyday, casual look I wore the blazer over a ruffle button top in the same azure blue and ivory. In fact, I had originally planned to wear the ruffle button top with my light ecru stovepipe jeans, but I accidentally left them at home. Still, I think this tone on tone outfit came together really nicely, too.

The ruffle button front top is constructed in a super soft and filmy 58% viscose, 42% cotton fabric. It features softly smocked sleeves that fall to the elbow and a barely visible but beautifully impactful ruffle down the sides of the front button placket. There’s also a small ruffle around the neckline, but I love that you can button the top completely or leave it open for a more relaxed vibe.

Don’t forget to accessorize with a bit of jewelry. In most of these looks I’ve also worn jewelry from Talbots, including a couple of tortoiseshell pieces that are so on trend. My chunky chain necklace is from Talbots a few years ago, but I’ve linked you to a similar one that is available now.

For my final look with the relaxed 90s blazer, I wore it over a fun graphic tee and those same everyday relaxed jeans. But this time I cuffed the jeans with one sizeable turn up along the hemline. That modern touch is optional, of course. But it definitely helps to create a decisively casual look with this blazer.

The t-shirt fits true to size and features elbow length short sleeves. The everyday relaxed jeans will give you a roomy fit, but I still prefer my usual size 10.

I completed this look with my Tretorn sneakers, also from Talbots. I find these on trend sneakers to run true to size. I like the navy trim, but they also have a more neutral option.

I’ve shopped Talbots for over 40 years because I love their modern classic styles. They carry a full range of sizes in misses, petite, plus and plus petites. Be sure to join their Classic Awards club if you haven’t already so that you can accumulate points towards bonuses that can be applied to future purchases. I’m so grateful to Talbots for sponsoring today’s blog post, but you know that I would be sharing these Talbots fashions even if they didn’t. And thank you, dear reader, for supporting the work I do here by shopping the brands that support me. I’ve created a shopping widget below so you can shop all of these styles plus a few of their other new arrivals.

Blessed for My Day
Have you ever encountered comments that just really ruffled your feathers? Maybe you were party to a conversation around the table and suddenly people were saying things that just didn’t sit well with you. Or maybe you were browsing Instagram or Facebook and came across a stream of comments that got under your skin. It’s amazing how quickly words can irritate a sensitive place in our hearts or minds. We remind ourselves to be quick to hear, slow to speak and even slower to anger. We reason that arguing our point won’t do any good anyhow.
But then… By the time you’ve “had it up to here,” your emotions are running high. So eventually you stop sitting silent and words just seem to explode forth from you like water from a fire hydrant. You meant to say nothing, but suddenly you’re saying it all! Oy. Job could relate. He sat in silence while his friends rattled on with their theories about his troubles. But then, when he just couldn’t bear it anymore, he spewed forth his response.
There’s no big lesson here, friend. I just wanted us to remember that words can indeed get us into trouble. And we’ve all been there. That’s no license to let loose, mind you. But oh, aren’t we grateful for God’s grace? I’m praying for you today, and I ask you to pray for me, too. Let’s try to be wise women…with our thoughts, our deeds and our words.
Then Job responded,
“Truly then you are the people,
And with you wisdom will die!
“But I have intelligence as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
And who does not know such things as these? ~ Job 12:1-3

Love this blue blazer! I have one similar from a couple years ago from Talbots. Like all your looks. Good BFMD.
Thanks so much for sharing, Sherry. I’m glad you enjoyed the post and the BFMD.
I’ve enjoyed my Everyday Relaxed Jeans from Talbots for several years, mixing their style with wider leg jeans too. Two seasons ago (maybe less) you mentioned the Everyday were not the most current. Do you think they’re now a classic?
The everyday relaxed jeans are certainly a current style. But they are not the most on trend or fashion forward. I’d say the most “now” look in jeans and pants are still wide leg and flare legs. But wear what you enjoy!
LOVE those blues on you. I know you like your neutrals but……..blues are much better for you. Neutrals are dull.
Thank you. I do enjoy wearing pretty colors. But I still like my neutrals and I don’t find them to be dull at all. To each her own. 🙂
Good reminder Kay in your BFMD. I’ve been praying over a situation about words said in a group and it happens often in my current Bible study. I’m at the point I don’t know if I want to attend it in the Fall again or go back to the one I was attending out of town. I felt God leading me to my own church Bible study to be with those ladies but I have to say it’s been disappointing and I feel I’m holding my tongue so often. It only takes 1-2 to make problems. So I’ll be praying about this more and asking God to lead me where he would have me. I want to be in His Word with other ladies. I love the color of the blazer on you. So pretty with your hair color. I’m only 5’3” so I feel it would be too long on me, but glad to see this blazer style is still in. I have some that fit me.
I’m so glad that spoke to you, Kathy. Groups like that can be very hard to navigate because maturity levels differ. Praying that you figure out what is best for you and that, in the mean time, you provide a godly, gracious witness.
Hi Kay,
Thank you for showing these items from Talbots. I buy many of my pieces from there. I think you can carry this relaxed longer jacket well, and that many gals like longer & looser jackets. I’m barely 5’1.5″ and 123 lbs., so even Petites (for those 5’4″ & under, they say) often need tailoring to fit me well. So for me, this type of jacket is overwhelming. Love the colors & shells, tho! Keep the great content coming! Everyone is different, but we can all appreciate your hard work to find us beautiful options. Best to you!
Dont really need a blazer but I loved all the pants and blouses! That is such a pretty blue and the prints are beautiful. Thanks for this!
Love the ruffled print blouse the most!
Kay, this is a fun post to get us in the mood for fall. I thought all the looks were really good and it reminds me that if I a going to invest in a blazer, to coordinate in many different ways. Each style really made the jacket look unique and different. I liked the ruffled front small print top the best, as well. And I think that’s the top that I wouldn’t have thought to put with the blazer at all. Cheers and thank you to both you and Talbots – I’ve been a loyal tablets customer for 40 years!
Tammie
Love your blessing today. I recently had it with a family members comments. Let’s just say I could have counted to 10 and then responded! Also, the blue looks beautiful on you!
I love the blue blazer and all of the ways you styled it! I have a question for you. I will be attending a high school reunion in October. We will be having a barbecue luncheon in the gymnasium and I know that it will be casual. I haven’t seen many of the people who will be there for over forty years and I want to look put together but not like I’m trying too hard. Also fall weather in Georgia can still be warmer than in other parts of the country. Can you give me some suggestions? Thanks so much!🥰
Hi Janis. I answered your request in my Saturday email. Hopefully you saw the four style boards I created for you there. If not, let me know.
