You probably remember wearing gingham during the warmer months as far back as childhood. But you never age out of this timeless, fresh print. Today I’m styling two matching gingham sets for summer. While there are things I like better about each set, the biggest difference is that one is priced significantly higher than the other. You absolutely can style both of these gingham suits in modern ways that work beautifully over 50, really for any age.

Black & White Matching Gingham Set from Talbots
First I have a black and white gingham set from Talbots. The linen straight ankle pants and coordinating linen jacket are sold separately. And TODAY ONLY (06/08/2026) they are 40% off with FREE shipping.

Both pieces are actually in a linen blend, but the fabric feels soft and summery. The blazer and ankle pants come in a full range of sizes and you can choose from misses, petite, plus and plus petite cuts. Both pieces fit true to size; I’m wearing a 10 in each. It will be fun to split the separates up and wear them other ways this summer, too. But here I’ve created an elevated casual look for a ladies lunch, summer conference or dinner out with the coordinating separates.

I’ve pulled this summer smart look together with a beaded graphic t-shirt, which also comes in that full range of sizes and fits. I find it to run true to size; I’m wearing a medium. For a more casual vibe, you could complete this outfit with these sneakers. I recently purchased them in the white/white option, and they’re just as comfortable as my navy trim ones. Well, no wonder. I noticed on the box that they have an “advanced comfort system” with multiple layers of “long term cushioning.” They’re truly some of the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever worn. But I digress.

I actually kept this look a little more polished by wearing black kitten heel sandals. This black shoe works because it is strappy and shows lots of foot. Thus it doesn’t weigh the outfit down. I’d go with the black strappy sandal when I want the outfit to feel a bit more polished. And the sneakers would work best for a day of shopping or going out for a burger with your husband.

Don’t forget, Talbots is having a Summer Cyber Monday Sale with 40% off your purchase and FREE shipping, but it’s today only and ONLINE ONLY.
Multi Color Matching Gingham Set from Veronica Beard
Next up with have sporty, multi color matching gingham set from Veronica Beard. These pieces are not on sale, lol! But I adore these acorn brown, beige and dusky blue gingham separates, and couldn’t resist the opportunity to style them a little differently from the set above. The fact is, you can duplicate this “high” look with the “low” pieces above. I’ll walk you through it as we go.

The Veronica Beard seersucker gingham pants and coordinating Clayton dickey jacket are both constructed in a lightweight, slightly stretchy, 98% cotton and 2% elastane fabric. The jacket is also lined with a 98% cotton and 2% elastane off-white fabric and the pants pockets are the same material. They come in sizes 00 to 16. I did size up to a 12 in the pants only for a quite roomy fit, but the 10 would have been too snug. Thus, I think I’m sort of between sizes. If you waffle between two sizes, definitely go with you’re higher one. And if you’re solid on one size (like I generally am with a 10) you may need to size up. The true to size 10 jacket fits me nicely.

I must confess, I duplicated this look almost to a tee from one I saw in a fashion show recently at my nearby Nordstrom. The ruched button-up shirt is in a stretchy 67% cotton, 30% polyamide, 3% elastane fabric that feels crisp and light. It even has invisible snaps that helps to prevent gaping. Just lovely! I’ve left it completely untucked and worn the jacket over it for a casual, effortless vibe.

Important: You could duplicate this look somewhat with the other gingham set wearing this shirt from Talbots. The VB shirt does not have buttons at the bottom; I’ve fastened all of the buttons. And if you want to duplicate the style with the Talbots shirt, you could just leave one or two buttons undone at the bottom.
For both outfits I’ve worn simple jewelry in a mixture of silver and gold. I started the combination with my Tilly Sveaas gold T-bar on a silver belcher chain. Then I added these mixed metal earrings and my pearl and gold necklace. Finally I added my gold paperclip bracelet.

The Vince LA leather and suede slip-on runners in moonlight & elmwood are the perfect sneakers for this set since they have that blue trim on the back. These are also extremely comfortable sneakers and they run true to size. Remember, you can create a similar look with the Talbots set by wearing sneakers instead of sandals.

Finally, I added my Veronica Beard Vida patchwork shoulder bag to the mix for a drummed-in play on color. This bag has become a fast favorite since it pairs nicely with many things in my closet.
Thanks so much for dropping in. I have a shopping widget below with everything shown. I’d love to hear your thoughts on styling a matching gingham set. Let me know if you’d like to see a post with these pieces used in other ways. Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day
We’ve all been there. Things have been said. Attitudes have almost tipped the scale. You’re right on the verge of sharing “what you really think.” But is it worth it to give the other person a piece of your mind? Sure, it may feel better…for a few minutes. Right now you feel misunderstood or undervalued or disregarded. Wouldn’t it be better to set the matter straight by telling it like it is?
Woah, Bessie! Remember, the Bible warns us to be quick to hear, slow to speak and even slower to anger. It may indeed require biting your tongue, but some things just don’t really need to be said. Take a pause, step away from the situation…gracefully. Stay gracious and circle back around later when you’ve had opportunity to pray about the matter, work through your frustrations and regroup your words. And it might be wise to also take a look at Proverbs 17:14.
The beginning of strife is like letting out water,
So abandon the quarrel before it breaks out. ~ Proverbs 17:14
