Stylish Fall Outfit Ideas from J.Crew
Match Your Top and Outerwear
One easy outfit formula for fall is to match your top and outerwear for what I call a “2 Over 1” style that works every time. This outfit formula always looks easy on the eyes and polished.

Match Your Pants and Outerwear
Another good outfit formula to utilize this time of year is to wear your pants and outerwear in the same color (or close). Again, this formula creates a cohesive look that works whether you’re wearing a coat (J.Crew has the best coats!), blazer or other jacket.
Above we’ve created an understated but chic look for a celebration. Those velvet pants will see you through the holidays and beyond. But go ahead and wear them now, too! I’m ordering these for sure.
Play On the Shades in Your Plaid
If you’re wearing a plaid on a fall day – whether it’s a plaid shirt, dress, pants or jacket – select your other pieces based on the subtle coloring in the plaid. But don’t go too far with this. A little color – or neutral – play goes a long way.
J.Crew has some of my favorite accessories. I wear a lot of their belts and find them to run true to size. I also like their jewelry and handbags.
Create a Tonal Look
Finally, don’t forget about the most basic but also the most chic style formula of all: the tonal or tone-on-tone look. The colors don’t all need to be exactly the same, but from the same color family and usually with the same undertone (cool or warm).
I think this dark shadow midi length shirt dress in matte jersey looks so stunning but also versatile. You can wear it casually with boots or dress it up as we did here with heels and bold jewelry.

I’ve discovered that sometimes the problem is me. LOL. Shocker, I know. But I’ll be stewing in my mind about the circumstances, the other person, the policy, what have you, only to discover that my own attitude, habit, words or actions have landed me in this situation. How do I make that discovery? By spending time in God’s Word.
Well, why would anyone want to read the Bible then, right? Hahaha! I hear ya. But you can trust yourself under the knife of God’s Word. Yes, it is sharp and piercing. And it will meddle with your actions, words and deeper thoughts and intentions. But in the loving hands of God, the Bible gently points the way to clarity, peace, restoration and hope. Trust me. It’s a good, good thing.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ~ Hebrews 4:12
Love all the outfits, but my favorites are #1 & #3. I like the idea of doubling up on the color of the top/outerwear. And a cute plaid coat…sigh, that brings me back to high school when I had this gorgeous deep burgundy plaid toggle coat. I loved that coat so much I wore it all the way well into my 20s, until it came apart at the seams and was beyond repair. J Crew has some really nice choices, I don’t usually think to look there, though. So, thank you! 🙂 BFMD – painful but true.
So often I get your blog and think I need to get a life. lol So many things are dressier than my life style. I spend so much time this time of year in jeans, sweaters, and booties or sneakers. I have been adding jackets for completer pieces.
