Whether the dates are already on your calendar, the invitations have started coming in or you’re just now dreaming of a magical night at the ballet or symphony, now is the time to look for the special outfit (or two!) you’ll wear to those festive holiday occasions. I’ve learned that the most unique and exquisite options sell out fast, at least in my popular size medium. And it takes a little time to accumulate the perfect accessories to complete the dress or pant set once it’s in your closet. So let’s start now to build our holiday special occasion wardrobe with a few lovely selections from Tuckernuck.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

Throughout the next few weeks I’ll be featuring a number of ideas for holiday special occasion outfits. But today we begin with two festive dresses gifted to me from Tuckernuck. When I have the opportunity to choose items from a brand’s select list, I only pick items that I would spend my hard-earned money on and that I think many of my readers and followers will also appreciate. I actually spend hours each week looking through options from our favorite brands and contemplating what will resonate most with YOU but also work well for my body type and personal style. I am beyond pleased to share with you two holiday special occasion looks that turned out even better than I had anticipated.

Tuckernuck Holiday Special Occasion Dress

Tuckernuck is a friends & family founded and operated U.S. based business that focuses on quality items that fit your real lifestyle. They carry stylish essentials for the careful closet curator, but they also offer standout garments and accessories with thoughtful details and personality…for all parts of your life. That said, their holiday collection knocks it out of the park year after year. (In fact, my daughter recently wore this dress from Tuckernuck when she and her husband celebrated her birthday at a live performance of Wicked.) I’ve chosen two exquisite dresses from the Tuckernuck house brand that are reasonably priced and timeless enough to wear year after year, but also unique and colorful.

dress c/o // clutch c/o // slingback heels // earrings c/o // necklace c/o

I envision wearing this emerald mirasol jacquard Adelaide dress for a ladies’ Christmas tea, church worship service, winter wedding or concert. Honestly, so many events on your holiday calendar would be just another good excuse to put on this luxe, full-skirted, button-bodice dress.

The emerald botanical print on this luxe jacquard fabric looks elevated and rich, but the dress is also comfortable and easy on the eyes, not overly complicated. That’s why you could easily change out accessories and wear it for so many different types of holiday special occasions.

I completed the dress with bold gold accessories and a black satin clutch, also from Tuckernuck. You’ll find so many unique and high quality accessory options at Tuckernuck. It’s a great place to start or add to your special occasion accessory wardrobe so you’ll have beautiful pieces to choose from year after year.

slingback heels

For both holiday special occasion outfits I’m wearing my gold Bianca slingback heels from my closet. I have worn these so many times! Not only are they my go-to shoe for special occasions, but right now it is very on trend to add a festive touch to any day with metallic accessories. So these have proven to be truly versatile shoes. They run true to size and I can walk in them easily without the strap slipping at all. They come in many other colors and fabrications, too.

What’s on your holiday calendar that would serve as the perfect opportunity to wear this jacquard Adelaide dress? Tuckernuck also has a shorter dress in this same luxe fabric and color. And my dress fits true to size; I’m wearing my usual medium.

Another Tuckernuck Holiday Special Occasion Dress

I don’t know if it’s the bold, rich color or the satin finish, but this next dress beckons me to take it for a spin at a slightly more elevated level. I’m already browsing the Internet for a concert or ballet where I can wear the Woodbine green satin Bellamy dress from Tuckernuck’s house brand.

dress c/o // clutch c/o // slingback heels // necklace c/o // earrings c/o

This washable polyester satin dress features a slim fit, empire waist with a slight puff sleeve and thin, attached self-tie bow at the back, all feminine details that set it apart with elegant taste. But again the dress is comfortable to wear and fits true to size.

I would, however, carry along an anti-static dryer sheet in your evening bag. Once I got to our photo shoot destination I realized that I needed one. I’ve found that carrying a dryer sheet in a small sandwich baggie in your purse is an easy solution to static cling, which is a typical problem with satin of any kind, especially in the winter. Just run the dryer sheet over the dress before exiting from your vehicle and again in the ladies’ room as needed. Usually just one time over does the trick for the whole day.

With this dress I wore a pair of olive crystal Emaline studs and a dainty diamond necklace (not Tuckernuck). I also selected from my special occasion jewelry collection a dainty Zirconia studded bracelet that I wore in my children’s weddings. It’s similar to this hinge bracelet and the same brand.

I’m frequently asked what to wear over a special occasion dress if the weather is cold. Have I got a great suggestion for you!

dress c/o // faux fur coat c/o // clutch c/o // slingback heels // necklace c/o // earrings c/o

This handsome brown fur Carmella coat not only feels toasty warm, but it keeps your outfit elegant and festive as you wear it or drape it over your shoulders. I’m wearing my usual size medium, and it does have a slightly oversized fit. You might could size down. But when I fastened it I decided this is indeed the right size for me.

Since you can also wear this stunning coat with more casual outfits for juxtaposition – think cashmere sweater and full length straight leg jeans with booties – you’ll want the room to be able to layer under the coat. And the wide, slightly puffed shoulder of the coat are by design. It includes a removable same fabric belt, but you can also pull the coat together with the concealed hook closures.

Notice the color variation in the faux fur. It’s truly artful and doesn’t have that typical all black or all brown coloring of faux fur. You can enjoy wearing a knockout coat like this one for years and even pass it on to someone else later. Tuckernuck does have a similar coat in a shorter silhouette.

I envision wearing this dress for a special evening of dining out and attending a live holiday performance. But it’s also perfect for a corporate Christmas party or winter wedding.

Consider the holiday special occasion events on your calendar this year. Don’t have one? Schedule one! That’s what I’m doing this weekend. But start now looking for that unique and stylish outfit to wear, the one that makes you feel festive, especially pretty and confident. I suggest you begin by perusing the large selection from Tuckernuck. I’ve created a shopping boutique below filled with some of my favorite occasion-worthy garments, shoes, bags and jewelry.

As we fast approach the holiday season, I hope to be a great resource for you. I’ll be creating gift guides as well as sharing holiday outfit ideas. Let me know if you have any special requests and I’ll make a note of it. I truly want to serve you this holiday season as you celebrate and enjoy the time with family and friends.

Blessed for My Day

Have you ever been in conversation with someone and suddenly they told you that you had said “just the right thing” or “just what I needed to hear?” How special is that? It doesn’t happen daily, mind you. But when someone tells me that I somehow managed to give them a word of encouragement, wisdom, direction or hope that really resonated with them…wow! That warms the heart like nothing else.

How can we be women who regularly speak such morsels of delight to the people in our lives? I think it’s more doable that we might think. As we fill our hearts and minds with words of truth, hope, wisdom and inspiration from God’s Word we become vessels that naturally pour out those same things in conversation. And if we’ll ask the Holy Spirit to use us to minister to other people, He will. So what about you? Have you filled up today? Are you ready to pour the good stuff?

To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is! ~ Proverbs 15:23

xoxo, Kay

  1. These are lovely dresses, though I wouldn’t have anywhere to wear them. The dress your daughter wore to the live performance of Wicked was very pretty too, and so appropriate.

  2. Really like the green dress. What I have found when wearing satin (or any clingy fabric) is to have a taffeta slip under it. This will help the cling on legs and tummy.

  3. Where i live its so casual and if I wore something like this to church or even Christmas Sunday, I’d really stick out. Too bad that people don’t dress up like they use to. I look back at my mom when she was young and for Easter she was always dressed up with hat and white gloves etc. So fun. I don’t have anything dressy planned over the holidays, as the things we do are more casual. These are both pretty choices. Nice they were gifted to you and if you are planning events, I’m sure you will wear both. Enjoy your blog and you, I look at it daily.

  4. Hello KAY,
I look forward to your Saturday blog every week and have learned so much from you! Thank you for all that you do to put this all together each week.
(My favorite part of your blog is your reflection at the very end. It blesses me every time.). Thank you.
I have a question about footwear. I live in Maine and it gets cold, snowy & often, very icy. When I
dress up to say go to the opera house, I struggle with what to wear on my feet. I usually
wear my Sorel Chelsey boots because they are warm and I feel very safe from slipping!! But I feel a bit frumpy. Do you have any suggestions?
