If you’ve been around Dressed for My Day long, you probably know my issue with trying to look younger than you really are. It can make you look clownish, like you’re trying too hard, inauthentic. But if you’ll aim to look modern, you’ll actually look more vibrant and youthful, like the best version of yourself. One of the brands I look to consistently when I want to dress in a way that reflects my personal style but also helps me to look current is J.Crew. So today I’m sharing with you a few fall favorites from J.Crew that can update your wardrobe and help you to create stylish, modern outfits you’ll love wearing..

I have been shopping J.Crew for classic wardrobe staples with a polished and modern vibe for decades. Their slightly preppy aesthetic is tempered by contemporary style features and silhouettes. And while I tend to stay in the women’s section, J.Crew does indeed have styles for the entire family. All of my kids enjoy their fashions, and I often gift them something from J.Crew for a birthday or Christmas.
Recent J.Crew Outfits
J.Crew makes getting dressed easy because they help you stock your closet with the essentials that create timeless outfits again and again. Below I’m showcasing the J.Crew outfit I wore just yesterday when I stepped out for a couple of appointments, a little window shopping and lunch.

My heather stone cashmere, cable knit, crewneck sweater has a slightly cropped length that still covers my waistband generously for achieving perfect proportions. These cropped length slim-wide jeans in the light Synniva wash combine beautifully with it for a low contrast in intensity pairing. I’m wearing my usual size medium in the sweater (as I usually do at J.Crew), but I sized down from my usual 30 to a 29 in the jeans (as I frequently but not always do at J.Crew).
You may recall the outfit shown below from my blog post about What I Wore on My Fall Getaway to the Adirondacks.

I love the stripe detail on these mid-rise relaxed straight leg jeans. And the mossy brown puffer vest is both functional and youthfully stylish. But let’s not forget to brag a bit on J.Crew’s cashmere. I was thinking just yesterday that cashmere sweaters really are a tell-tale sign of a brand’s commitment to quality. For the price, I think J.Crew’s cashmere sweaters and accessories are some of the best quality you’ll find this fall. They’re thick and lush and they carry a wide variety of colors and neutrals to suit your palette.
Fall Favorites from J.Crew Style Boards
I had my assistant Lucy whip us up a few style boards from J.Crew. Today and tomorrow (10/21-22) J.Crew has a large number of their most popular wear-now styles marked down significantly, starting at just $49.50. Many, but not all, of the pieces we included in the style boards are among those number, making them reasonably priced, high quality additions to your fall wardrobe. These are classics with a modern vibe that you’ll wear over and over for at least several years, if not more.

The nipped straight jeans shown above feature a high waist and are created to hit just below the ankle, so they’re a perfect full length jean to pair with classic loafers or booties. Add a simple but elevated turtleneck sweater and a trending studded belt and you have a modern outfit that is stylish and polished, but so comfortable and practical. To add a little color to this otherwise neutral outfit, grab a burgundy suede bucket bag on your way out the door. (I just got in that puffer barn jacket and it is lightweight and so perfect for everyday life. And it also comes in ivory and in spruce.)

I saw this corduroy patch pocket lady jacket in French press brown in the store yesterday and just had to include it in our list of fall favorites from J.Crew. It was styled on a mannequin and looks so much better in person than it does on the website. Oh my! It gently frames the body, so it looks beautiful styled alone and buttoned up. And they had it paired back to these exact dark wash trouser jeans for the most beautiful proportions. By the way, I do have those trouser jeans and wear them in a size 29.
I also saw those square gemstone stud earrings in the store. In fact, I picked them up to see if they were heavy. They are not. I would never recommend them if they were. But these sizable earrings are perfect to wear with sweaters or shirts when you don’t want to have to add a necklace.

The fall favorites from J.Crew grouped above are good examples of casual pieces that will actually elevate your everyday style. From the traditional classic cashmere crewneck sweater and slim-wide jeans to the trending but equally classic cropped barn jacket and suede bag with matching suede belt, these wardrobe basics are anything but boring. Add sporty brown leather sneakers with contrasting dainty jewelry and you’ve created a casual, comfortable outfit that is also modern and noteworthy.
I encourage you to browse the J.Crew website for more styles you might love. And remember, many of the items I’ve shown above and in the shopping boutique below come in additional colors and fabrications. So click through if you are interested in the style and silhouette. I’ve gathered many of my fall favorites from J.Crew, including quite a few that I own, in the shopping boutique. You may need to use the scroll mechanism to see all of the selections. There should be at least 63 for you to peruse.
Thanks so much for stopping in today. I hope you have a stylish and blessed day!

Blessed for My Day
I knew I needed to ask for directions. I had been here before, but it had been years ago. Surroundings looked different now, and I couldn’t quite get my bearings. But I can be a little stubborn. And it seemed silly to ask for help when I felt like I should know the way. Have you ever returned home or to some other familiar place only to find that you could no longer get around the way you used to? It can be a humbling experience. And how we handle it says a lot more about our character than it does our navigational skills.
The same can be said when we lose our way in life. Most of us will come to a crossroads occasionally in life. We will have the opportunity to follow the Lord’s instructions, charted by the ancient words of the Bible, or we can try to figure out the way on our own…stubbornly, willfully. The choice is ours. But in the end we can trust that God always knows best. The question is, will you take directions or will you stubbornly insist on doing what you think is right in your own eyes.
Thus says the Lord:
“Stand by the roads, and look,
and ask for the ancient paths,
where the good way is; and walk in it,
and find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ ~ Jeremiah 6:16
I don’t wear jeans in the summer except for white jeans occasionally. Too hot! When Fall rolls around, like now I love to wear a cute pair of jeans with a sweater, blazer, or jacket and boots or loafers. Some really cute outfits on your board. I have and wear J Crew jeans as one of my favorites go to jeans. I also like Ann Taylor, Frame, and Paige jeans also. The BFMD hit home today. Sometimes we lose our way and need to turn to Jesus to show us the way. He is always there waiting for us.
Love your outfit you styled and the style boards. I love the style boards for dressing ideas. Tell Lucy she did good.
I just got my haircut and pedi done and I know just what you mean.
