Why does it continue to surprise me when the simplest outfits turn out to be my favorites? Yes, I can over complicate things with the best of them! But today I’m keeping it easy breezy and sharing a simply chic spring outfit.

Truly, I love the appeal of simple lines, plain canvases, uncomplicated patterns, classic textures and easy on the eyes colors. There’s just something about that fuss-free approach to fashion that looks effortlessly chic. Wouldn’t you agree? That’s how I feel about this one-two Spring style formula: classic straight leg cropped length jeans and a soft, solid hued sweater.

So whether you’re open to a little shopping or you’re just here to get a little style inspiration for the pieces in your own closet, let’s consider a few of the details that make this pared down combination so simply chic.
First, I’m wearing classic straight leg jeans in a medium wash. Yes, they have a trending raw “hem.” But even that detail adds a little softness to this classic combination. And other than that raw edge there’s no distressing or even significant fading, much less ornamentation or design, on these jeans. Blank canvas. Easy on the eyes.

I’m wearing my Madewell Perfect Vintage jeans (another similar option) that I purchased last spring. I forget how fantastic these jeans feel on. Now that I think about it, that’s probably another key to this simply chic spring outfit – it’s feels as good as it looks! And that makes me look more confident and happy. By the way, I wear a size 29 in the Madewell Perfect Vintage jeans.

And then there’s that oh so soft on the skin and equally easy on the eyes white cropped length sweater. It’s quite lightweight. In fact you might want to wear a flesh toned camisole underneath, although I personally don’t feel like you have to. I’ve worn it both ways. This simple but lovely sweater is also available in a cool retro blue and a pale peach and navy stripe.

This 100% cotton sweater features a gently collared neckline, swingy sleeves with an abbreviated split at the wrist and a relaxed fit. The slightly cropped length makes it perfect for pairing with ankle jeans because even if you leave it untucked (so you can see that lovely thick border!), you can create those optimal proportions. I think this sweater looks gentle and yet somewhat sophisticated, too.

But as much as I love the classic jeans and the soft white sweater combo, I think the addition of some textured and softly colored shoes really gives this outfit the boost it needs. Yes, it would also look great with classic bourbon colored sandals, linen espadrilles or even fun sneakers. But I jumped at the opportunity to wear my crisp blue Tory Burch woven mules. Not only do these shoes add a little texture and color to the outfit, but the polished horse-head hardware adds a subtle dose of richness and elegance to the combination. These woven mules run true to size, also come in sweet corn yellow and are currently marked down.

If you’ve been around Dressed for My Day long, you might recall that I’ve begun to pare back on my jewelry a bit. It’s just a personal preference, not a current trend. But somehow this simply chic spring combination lured me into adding not just more jewelry, but a little more razzle dazzle, too. Go figure! I took this no-occasion occasion to wear my sparkly Sophee crystal drop earrings, which I hardly ever put on. My necklaces are no longer available, but this multistrand Hadley butterfly necklace would look lovely here. And I wore my Abbie bangle and my Nordgreen Infinity watch with the gold mesh strap (but I don’t think you can see it in any of these photos).
To keep the tone of my simple spring combo consistent, I carried my light taupe shopper. It’s no longer available. But Everlane does have this Italian leather studio bag in the same shade.

So no, we do not have to be dressed to the nines to look chic and pulled together. Sometimes it’s the most basic pieces put together in the simplest formula that create the most chic outfits.

Have you recently been slapped with harsh words? Whether someone intentionally or carelessly ripped at your self-esteem with words that belittled or insulted you or you’ve felt the weight of the heavy words leveled on an evening newscast, you may be feeling a little bruised and bloodied from verbal stones today.
That’s why it’s so important to begin each day seeking refreshment, perspective and even cleansing from the words of the Lord. While His words may indeed convict and challenge us at times, we can always know that they are leveled with love. And so much of what we read in God’s Word brings us hope and reminds us of the truth about ourselves, the world and the God who lovingly holds us in His hands. Make sure you spend time reading the words of the Lord today. It will bring much needed healing to your soul.
The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. ~ Psalm 12:6
