First up I gathered a few new to me products that look worthy of a good try. My husband has grown a sort of three-day beard in the last six months or so and is enjoying using beard balms. Besides knowing that the Lord is at hand – near, ever present, involved in our lives – there is a second step in having the peace that surpasses understanding instead of anxiety in our stressful times. We must take everything to God in prayer and supplication. That word supplication implies that there is great need. In other words, Paul is instructing us to admit that we don’t have everything we need within us to handle the stressor. We need God’s help, and we’re confessing that to him.
God knows we need His help, and He is always at the ready to provide everything we need. In fact, He supplies most things without us ever asking. But there is a holy transaction that takes place when we confess that need and lean on Him to supply it rather than trying to muster up the provision ourselves. The burden is lifted from our shoulders and put on His, we are released from the anxiety produced from such a burden. And God’s peace settles in instead.
The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:5b-7
