Recently we headed out of town for an impromptu weekend getaway. I wanted to pack light, but look stylish. Yes, comfort was priority since we would be relaxing and doing a little hiking. But you know me: I always want to look pulled together and feel pretty. Fortunately I can always count on Talbots for athleisure clothing that fits the bill, especially the selection from their sporty T by Talbots collection.. Let’s see how I packed for a summer weekend getaway with Talbots.

The French terry shorts, shown above paired with a stretch ribbed tank in limeade, were an obvious choice for a morning lounging at our log cabin in the woods. They’re super comfortable and so cute.

The French terry shorts

The French terry shorts run true to size for a roomy fit, and they come in petite sizes, too. Talbots has other French terry selections, too. They also have a coordinating French terry top in the same rally stripe.

The contour stretch ribbed tank also comes in black, indigo blue, ivory and white, as well as a pretty rosewater pink in limited sizes. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium comfortably. The 87% Nylon, 13% Spandex fabric is moisture-wicking and cool on the skin.

For chilly mornings and evenings I made sure to bring along this crisp white crinkle weave jacket. I love the oat colored trim on the jacket. And the rally plaid ties at the adjustable collar add a fun, sporty touch.

For hiking and other outdoor activities, I slipped into the crinkle weave skort, also in oat. I am so pleased with this 18″ skort (17 1/2″ in petite). And the lightweight and airy fabric is perfect for an active day.

The skort features a smooth elasticized waistband with a drawcord, slits at the sides for increased ease of movement and zipper pockets in the front and snap pockets in the back. Talk about functionality combined with style!

I completed this easy recreational outfit with my Tretorn sneakers. In fact, all of these outfits worked nicely with my classic navy and white sneakers. Of course, for hiking I changed into the appropriate footwear. But when we were roasting wieners and marshmallows at the fire pit or reading on the front porch, these comfortable Tretorns were my shoe of choice.

This outfit was perfect for a hike, but also appropriate for a meal out or a stroll through downtown. But I also took along a comfortable, pretty dress for our summer weekend getaway.

French Terry t-shirt dress

My French terry t-shirt dress features a dip-dye finish and a high-low hemline. It’s comfortable for curling up with a good book on the front porch swing, but polished enough for going out for an ice cream cone or touring a historical home.

The French Terry t-shirt dress runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium comfortably. It comes in misses, petite, plus and plus petite sizes.

I love shopping Talbots for comfortable clothes that fit my casual lifestyle. They always have selections that are both functional and fabulously stylish. And they offer a wide range of sizes, too. I’ve created a shopping widget below so you can shop these and other styles from Talbots for your next getaway or your ordinary summer days at home.

Blessed for My Day

There are certainly times when we need to speak up. We can use our voices to defend the helpless, to encourage the discouraged and to give wisdom to the wanderer. But in truth, many more times we are wiser still to say less. Learning to hold our tongue and exercising restraint is biblical sign of maturity.

I sometimes say things before thinking. I’m praying about that and trying to be a woman who is slower to speak and more careful to consider my words. The book of James offers wise advice on this course of action. James tells us to be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. I think that’s a good one, two, three plan. If I focus on hearing – really listening – I’m less prone to fire off words that never needed to be said.

He who restrains his words has knowledge,
And he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise;
When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent. ~ Proverbs 17:27-28

  1. Speaking without stopping to think is one of my struggles as well. It is good to know that someone I respect has a similar struggle. Thank you.

  2. I’ve been eyeballing this skort since I need a light colored skort that not white and wondering if poly shorts underneath ride up if you’re on a long walk?or hike? Boating? Bought the out and about skort in navy and had to return since I was always pulling down the shorts underneath. Haven’t found a skort that fits since Croft and Barrow 100% cotton knit in navy and black but keep looking. Perhaps a blog on skorts is in the works? Thanks

  3. These casual clothes are so wearable and lovely vibrant colours. I wish we Australians could buy Talbots

  4. What a cute skort! I thought I wanted navy or black but now this lighter color is making me think twice. Also, love French terry as it doesn’t cling to the lumps and bumps! Yes, restraining our tongues is hard but usually a good idea – if it is necessary to express an opinion, there’s usually time for that – it doesn’t need to be rushed.
