I definitely prefer and recommend shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale online. The options are greater, the availability is more extensive and, since shipping and returns are free, it just really makes sense to try on items at home. But I have made a tradition out of shopping in store with my daughter on the opening day of the sale, too. So today I’m sharing with you my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in-store fitting room session.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

To keep this post as short as possible – so you can get back to shopping! – I’ll keep the commentary minimal and just provide fit and sizing information, as well as any notes that I think you, my sweet friend, may need if you’re considering purchasing an item.

The Low-Down on Try-On Sessions

Please keep in mind that these are photos taken on my phone in poor lighting. Also, I’ve been pulling clothes off and on in a tight space. So my hair is a mess, my makeup is melting and I look pretty kerplunked. Ha! So please just focus on the clothes and give a little grace to the lady with the phone in her hand trying to look decent in fitting room lighting. For reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 160 pounds. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape. I usually wear a size misses 10 or 30 in jeans or mediums. I’m showing all garments in those sizes unless otherwise noted.

shirt (TTS) Regularly $49.50, in the sale $32.99 // drawstring jeans (TTS) Regularly $89.50, in the sale $59.99

The ivory and black striped Treasure & Bond shirt is a good one for everyday wear. It fits true to size for an oversized fit. The sleeves are long; I’ve rolled them up a bit to style the top. The Caslon drawstring waist barrel jeans are a really sweet jean you can wear now and later. The price is sweet, too. They fit true to size.

cashmere sweater TTS regularly $169.00, in the sale $112.99 // jeans (sized up to 31, but ordered 30) regularly $259.00, in the sale $172.99 // boots TTS regularly $550.00, in the sale $364.99

I’m a big fan of Nordstrom cashmere, and this cashmere crewneck sweater is one that I wear frequently. I don’t recall seeing this beige beach shade in the collection before, and I think it’s a nice neutral. The Paige Anessa jeans are among my personal favorites, and this is definitely a fan favorite, too. It fits everyone beautifully. Here I’m wearing a 31, so I sized up as I usually do. I did purchase these, but I’ve ordered a 30, too. So I have a feeling these may be sold out by Saturday morning, but keep checking in through this link because returns absolutely will come in. Finally, the Aquatalia Romeo waterproof booties are every bit as good as I’d heard. Very comfortable and the quality of the suede is amazing, considering they are waterproof. I ordered them in brown, but here I was wearing them in black. They also come in a cognac shade.

jacket regularly $695.00, in sale $449.99 // top TTS regularly $325.00, in sale $214.99 // jeans TTS (sized up to 31, but ordered 30) regularly $259.00, in the sale $172.99 // boots TTS regularly $550.00, in the sale $364.99

The Cinq a Sept jacket above is stunning and chic if you’re in the market for a closet upgrade. And the blouse I’m wearing under it (shown below) is equally beautiful. It’s the kind of shirt that will make an outfit effortlessly. Both run true to size.

top // jeans // boots

Below I’m wearing a Nordstrom brand cotton t-shirt. I am quite impressed with the quality and fit of these tees. It comes in a variety of colors. I did size up to a large for a nice fit since it is a slim fit tee. I love the drape and thickness of the tee.

jacket runs large (sized down here); regularly $649.00, in the sale $399.99 // shirt slim fit, sized up to Large; regularly $35.00, in the sale $22.99 // jeans // boots

The AllSaints Ryder suede jacket is very on trend with that stand up collar. However, it runs very large. I sometimes have to size up in jackets because I have fairly broad shoulder and thick upper arms. But here I needed to size down to a small for a very comfortable fit. Above you can see me in the small jacket, whereas I’m in the medium below.

jacket runs large, regularly $649.00, in the sale $399.99 // sweater size down, regularly $258.00, in the sale $171.99 // jeans // shoes TTS, regularly $350.00, in the sale $249.99
jacket TTS, regularly $498.00, in the sale $329.99 // shirt // jeans // boots

I came home with the Rag & bone ponte knit blazer in navy. It has a good bit of stretch in it and is supposed to be a close fit. I’m wearing my TTS medium for a nice fit. And it can also be worn buttoned up alone.

shirt size up, regularly $138.00, in the sale $91.99 // jeans // shoes // belt TTS, regularly $59.00, in the sale $39.99

The Rag & Bone striped tee is a great fall elevated basic with its back center seam and delightful stripes. But I do suggest sizing up. The large worked well for me.

jacket runs large – size down, regularly $320.00, in the sale $199.99 // shirt size up, regularly $138.00, in the sale $91.99 // jeans // shoes TTS, regularly $350.00, in the sale $249.99 // belt TTS, regularly $59.00, in the sale $39.99

Over the tee I’m wearing a navy Barbour quilted jacket that also comes in two other pretty colors. They feature a wide corduroy collar and functional pockets. The jacket runs quite large so size down (I’m wearing an 8) and it feels airy and lightweight. Do, however, note the very wide collar. If that’s not something you want, then this may not be the jacket for you.

jacket size down, regularly $248.00, in the sale $165.99 // sweater size down, regularly $258, in the sale $171.99// jeans // shoes

As I plug in these prices, I’m scratching my head and trying to figure out why the Eileen Fisher sweater shown above costs more than the jacket. I guess it’s because the sweater is Merino wool, but the jacket is definitely the better investment. My daughter ended up getting this one. You do want to size down in Eileen Fisher unless you want a very oversized look.

sweater TTS – wearing medium, regularly $199, in the sale $132.99 // jeans // shoes

I actually prefer the AllSaints ribbed cardigan above over the Eileen Fisher one. This sweater is denser and super soft. It feels luxurious on the skin. It fits true to size; I’m wearing a medium comfortably. The sweater also comes in a forest green that I think I would prefer. In fact, I may order it.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned the Staud heeled mules shown above yet. They are beautiful and very on trend for this fall. Since there are a number of similar shoes in the sale, I have a feeling we will see a lot of them this fall. They’re perfect for wearing with your longer full length jeans, but also look cute with ankle jeans. These fit so nicely true to size.

jacket TTS, regularly $288, in the sale $189.99 // t-shirt size up, regularly $55.00, in the sale $35.99 // jeans // booties TTS, regularly $495, in the sale $329.99 // belt

My daughter and I both loved the lightweight Rails jacket above, but neither of us got it in the end. It’s a great little outfit completer you can wear now and into the fall. I’m wearing it over an AllSaints Stevie tee, a favorite tee I’ve personally been wearing for three years now. I purchased a new one in the navy. I size up to a large.

jacket TTS, regularly $569, in the sale $349.99 // shirt // jeans // booties TTS, regularly $495, in the sale $329.99 // belt

I feel like the AllSaints Dalby leather jacket shown above is a little thinner this year. I have this jacket from a few years ago and I think it’s more substantial. But that may because a “lighter look” is a little more on trend than a heavy biker jacket. Also, I think I had to size up in my original jacket, whereas this one fits very nicely true to size (wearing a 10).

The Veronica Beard booties shown above fit a little snug to me (just slightly), so if you sometimes have to size up, do so. But these are very pretty booties that come in additional colors, too.

dress maybe true to size?, regularly $278, in the sale $184.99// shoes TTS, regularly $150, in the sale $89.99

I think my daughter and I got this dress mixed up in our fitting rooms. Hahaha! It turned out I tried on the small, so it doesn’t fit quite like it should have. The dress is absolutely gorgeous, but should be fuller in the skirt. I’d say it probably runs true to size, but use your measurements with the size guide for the best fit. I might should have tried a large according to the size guide.

I would not wear these leopard print shoes with either of these dresses, lol. But they were all I had in my fitting room to put on with them. The shoes are darling and run true to size. However, if you’re looking for a pretty little pointed toe mule I suggest the Open Edit Carmen mule instead. That’s the one (make that two!) I came home with and they’re easier to walk in.

dress TTS to a little snug, regularly $109, in the sale $72.99 // shoes TTS, regularly $150, in the sale $89.99

The Nordstrom brand dress above is a pretty one for work and church. And you could complete it with a pretty blazer or other jacket. It does come in black, too. I love the textured fabric. However, you can see that I would definitely need shapewear and/or a slip with this one. It’s not sheer, but the fabric is thin.

I apologize for the bare feet below. (I once had a subscriber unsubscribe because I was barefooted on a fitting room floor. Hmm.) But I was still waiting for shoes to be delivered to the fitting room and needed to start snapping photos at this point or I would have been there into the evening.

shirt TTS, regularly $188, in the sale $124.99 // jeans TTS, regularly $249, in the sale $165.99 // belt

The Paige Anessa jeans shown above are every bit as on trend and wow-worthy as the blue ones I’ve been wearing for most of this post. But the blue ones will sell out and these may not. And honestly, these may be the better buy because the brown (and all colored denim) is so on trend this year. Plus, they’re just a really nice and versatile color. They run bigger than the blue wash, so I’m in my TTS 30 for a nice fit.

The brown and white check Rails top shown above was a favorite of mine and my daughter’s. Since they only had one medium in the store and she needed it to accommodate her pregnant body, I let her go home with it. (On a side note, they don’t make maternity clothes like they used to, ladies. Abigail’s not really a fan of the close-fitting garments they offer now, so she prefers oversized regular shirts and dresses. Interesting.) Anyhow, I love this shirt and think it’s a great fall find.

sweater TTS wearing a medium, regularly $129, in the sale $85.99 // jeans TTS wearing a 30, regularly $278, in the sale $185.99 // shoes

I think the outfit above is the only one I snapped a photo with wearing the Mother The Kick It high waist straight leg jeans. These are very popular jeans in a great wash, so they’re already going in and out of stock and people have begun making returns. I had never tried them on before, but I can see now what the hype is about. They’re truly the perfect modern straight leg jean, slim at the top and straight through the leg in a super soft denim. I’m wearing them with a short sleeved cashmere sweater from the Nordstrom brand. It comes in a number of nice colors and fits true to size.

sweater TTS to a little small, regularly $395, in the sale $263.99// jeans // shoes

The Cinq a Sept sweater above is beautiful cotton blend option. It’s a really outfit maker and can be worn open over a camisole as well. I’m wearing a medium. Oh, and you can probably see that is quite low in the front.

jacket also in plus sizes TTS, regularly $320, in the sale $199.99 // sweater // jeans // booties

I cannot believe this Barbour jacket is almost sold out. In fact, it has indeed disappeared in two of the colors and is now only in this green. It’s a lightweight, versatile jacket and very on trend. But I do expect there to be returns. It’s also available in limited plus sizes.

raincoat TTS, regularly $200, in the sale $129.99 // shirt // pants

And finally, the Sam Edelman plaid raincoat that I came home with. I needed another raincoat like I need a hole in the head, lol. But this one is just too good to pass up at this price. And this coat also comes in a charming mustard yellow that’s perfect for spring, summer and fall.

Blessed for My Day

When you’ve lived as long as we have you’ve definitely been through a few things that made you wonder if God had forsaken you. Whether the hardship was just too hard or the long season became too long, you’ve certainly known the pain that clouds your vision and makes you wonder where God is. The psalmist expresses these feelings poignantly in Psalm 77.

But even if these disturbing words echo your current emotions, we can all be assured that God has not and never will forsake us. He is always with us. Sometimes His plans for us do indeed include enduring hard things. But we can find comfort in His Word, reassurance in His past faithfulness and hope in His promises. Cling to your faith, dear sister, and persist in your hope. God is still good.

You have held my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I have considered the days of old,
The years of long ago.
I will remember my song in the night;
I will meditate with my heart,
And my spirit ponders:

Will the Lord reject forever?
And will He never be favorable again?
Has His favor ceased forever?
Has His promise come to an end forever?
Has God forgotten to be gracious,
Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? ~ Psalm 77:4-9

xoxo, Kay
