Wow! It’s been a busy but delightful two weeks since I last posted a how I really dressed for my day post. During a large chunk of that time we were hosting my daughter and granddaughter for an extended stay. So in all the excitement around the 4th of July, the busyness of preparing for my girls’ visit and then the joy of drinking in every possible moment with my kids, I neglected to take photos of about half of my outfits. I know you understand because you certainly have weeks like that, too. But today I am excited to share with you ten outfits that I did wear during that time. This is how I really dressed for my hot summer days.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

Summer Outfit #1

This is my summer outfit from that Friday before the fourth. I wore this patriotic, feminine outfit to get my nails done and then run errands at the mall.

The top is lightweight and shaped to give you a blousy look that is still feminine and soft. I wore it over ankle length linen pants and sandals that I could do a good bit of walking in. The Susan Shaw jewelry added seasonal touches.

Summer Outfit #2

This is the outfit I ended up wearing on the 4th of July. James and I enjoyed the morning at home and then we saw The Young Washington in a packed theater that afternoon. Afterwards we had dinner reservations at a favorite restaurant.

button-up shirt // camisole // pants // shoes // bag // necklace // earrings

I had popped in at L.L.Bean the day before after my nail appointment. And when I saw this super soft and floaty sunwashed, textured shirt, I just couldn’t resist it. Come to think of it, I need to wear that again! It runs true to size for a slightly oversized fit, and it comes in regular, petite and plus sizes and additional colors.

Summer Outfit #3

I think the rest of these are quite out of order, but no bother. I can tell from the bubble wand and blanket in my hands that I had been spending time in the yard with my granddaughter here.

shirt // shorts c/o // belt // shoes // necklace c/o // earrings // sunglasses

I topped my white linen shorts with a new Liberty of London print shirt. I’d say the shorts run true to size, but the shirt is a little large. Since I needed to belt the shorts, I carried that same color of cognac throughout the outfit with cognac sandals and a Tiger’s Eye necklace.

Summer Outfit #4

I think this may be the outfit the day we girls started our morning at a favorite coffee shop for breakfast and then did just a little shopping. That afternoon we hopped back in the car to pick up peaches from the Peach Truck.

button-up shirt // shorts // similar shoes // similar purse (sold out) // necklace // earrings // sunglasses

I felt cool and comfortable in my brown linen shorts and white linen shirt. I’ve discovered that when I start feeling a little off my game style-wise that if I’ll just return to a white linen shirt outfit I get my center again. Truly, I could wear this wardrobe staple every day and be perfectly happy.

Summer Outfit #5

I wore this “patriotic” combination one day after taking photos, but I put it on again this past week. I love the combination of navy and ivory for a classy, but celebrative touch. Add those cute shoes and this outfit is such a winner in my book.

shirt and here // pants // shoes c/o // purse (use code KAY12 for 12% off) // necklace // earrings

The day I wore this outfit I got so many compliments. I think women liked the fact that it looked a little patriotic, but also timeless. Those shoes are such a winner!

Summer Outfit #6

Abigail and I have made a tradition out of shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale together. So we timed their visit accordingly, even though her husband didn’t get to come this time due to work. We headed out early that morning and made a day of it.

button-up shirt // pants // shoes // earrings // pearl necklace // T-bar necklace // purse use code KAY12 for 12% off // see what’s in my Nordstrom bags HERE

I like to feel comfortable but also look a little polished when I head out for a shopping day. So I wore a textured button-up shirt with my flax colored linen ankle pants, always a favorite combo. I sized down in the top as usual.

Summer Outfit #7

Here’s another outfit from a Mimi day. I kept it simple but also a little stylish with red ankle pants and a cool sleeveless denim top.

shirt // pants // shoes // earrings // necklace

I kept the look simple with sandals and that Tiger’s Eye necklace. I especially like how those pieces bookend the outfit.

Summer Outfit #8

We got out for lunch and a little time at the playground in this next outfit. I carried along sneakers for the park.

button-up shirt c/o // jeans // shoes // purse use code KAY12 for 12% off // pearl necklace // fish necklace // earrings

I was gifted this pretty pink linen shirt and I am smitten. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium. The linen fabric is softer and has a little more body than some. And the pink is just so pretty. It’s the perfect length to leave untucked. Oh! And I just noticed it’s on sale.

Summer Outfit #9

This is actually the outfit I wore just this Wednesday as I spent most of the day at my desk editing the video that didn’t go up until nine at night. Ha! What a day! Thank goodness for soft, cozy clothes that made the day a little more comfortable and easy.

zip-up jacket c/o // shirt c/o // pants c/o // shoes // necklace // earrings

This trio from Splendid LA would actually make a really good car travel outfit, too. I like having a coordinating jacket to put on when we crank up the air conditioning in the car or pop into a cool restaurant. The pieces are a super soft and lightweight terry fabric. That said, my pants are way to large. The website suggested I size up to a large, but I should have gotten my usual medium. I’m also wearing a medium in the top and jacket and they’re a little large, too. So consider sizing down.

Summer Outfit #10

And finally here is what I wore just yesterday. Most of the day I was in only the cool and breezy linen shirt and pants. But when I popped out for some quick errands in the afternoon, I did indeed add that hat.

button-up shirt // pants // shoes // purse // hat // earrings // pearl necklace // fish necklace

I love the combination of white and blue with cognac accessories. I think this tone of leather just adds richness and depth to the twosome. I was feeling very coastal grandmother in this outfit! By the way, would you like to see a blog post or video on the updated coastal grandmother aesthetic? Let me know in the comments.

Thanks so much for stopping in. Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day

I’m a fan of knowing our history, but not just out of curiosity or nostalgia. When we study our history – as a nation, a family, an organization or an individual – we need not just learn about our history, but learn from it. We can learn how to navigate the future better when we take note of both our mistakes and our successes in the past.

But that means we have to be honest about our history. When you look back over the seasons of your life, do you judge them accurately? That’s a loaded question for sure, but one worth asking ourselves. If we are honest about our mistakes and mishaps, we will have more wisdom for the days ahead.

So all Israel was recorded in genealogies, and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their breach of faith. ~ 1 Chronicles 9:1

  1. I notice you purchase the Italian linen from F and E. Have you tried the washed linen. I like the fact that it’s not as see through, but don’t feel it drapes as nicely. You looked grandmas ready in your cool summer outfits.
