My Favorite Selections from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2023

Woohoo! It’s here! The famed Nordstrom Anniversary Sale begins next week for all Nordstrom cardholders. And it opens to everyone early the next week. I love shopping this pre-fall sale, and I’ve become quite the pro at it. In fact, about half of my fall and winter wardrobe last year came from this mega sale, and I enjoyed every piece I purchased. These are the brands you love with all new merchandise marked down up to 50% off…but only temporarily. Yes, it can be overwhelming. But stick with me and I’ll help you shop it smart. But today I’m sharing my favorite selections from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in each of several broad categories.

The collage above includes a smattering of my favorite finds in the #NSale (as it’s affectionately called) 2023. But there are many, many more! In fact, this is probably the best sale I’ve seen since before 2020. Yes, there are a lot of old favorites, but a even of few of those have had major facelifts since last year. (I’ll point them out in a minute.) And besides, especially in the beauty and sleepwear departments, I enjoy shopping those old faithfuls each year.

So I’m breaking down my favorite finds in the sale by categories: Sweaters, Denim, Skirts & Dresses, Coats, Jackets & Blazers, Pants, Tops & Shirts, Lounge & Sleepwear, Activewear & Athleisure, Handbags, Shoes, Boots, Other Accessories and Beauty Exclusives. I’ll share some of my favorites in the men’s department and in home later. And since we have a little one on the way (!!!), I’ll probably even share some favorites in the kids’ department soon.

My Favorite Sweaters in the #NSale 2023

Well after all that fanfare, I will admit that the sweater department is one of the few that I found a little underwhelming. I’m seeing some great basics here, but nothing really new that grabs my attention. That said, I love the color selection of this Vince raglan sleeve v-neck cashmere & wool pullover (shown below). I’ll probably order the tea berry, but the bay sure is pretty. And this rich brown Madewell pullover sweater also looks yummy.

We do see a few cardigans in this year’s sale, too, but they continue to take a back seat to jackets. I have a similar shawl collar cashmere cardigan from a previous sale, but I don’t remember it costing quite this much. I have a feeling it is ultra plush and lovely, so if you’d wear it frequently I think that one could be a closet staple.

My Favorite Denim in the #NSale 2023

I love shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for denim because you can get some fresh styles for the fall at great prices. You can certainly find great premium denim from brands like Mother, AG, Joe’s, Frame and Paige. But I also love the offerings from mid-price brands like Madewell, NYDJ and Kut from the Kloth. And you’ll find very affordable but current silhouettes from brands like Wit & Wisdom and Levi’s.

Denim skirts are really trending this year, especially midi length ones. I love this one from Joe’s. I predict it to sell fast, but go through several restocks. And I’m probably going to order these black high waist wide leg jeans and these black high waist ankle length straight leg jeans. And last year I purchased a pair of the Paige Cindy and enjoyed them, so I may get this updated Cindy in antique black (more of a grey), too.

Pro Tip: When shopping jeans in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, remember that shipping and returns are free. So you can order two sizes if you need to. That said, I don’t like to be a hog during this sale. Ha! So I really pay attention to the rise, inseam, leg opening width and fabric (I like 98% cotton and 2% elastane or Spandex). Also Nordstrom has stylist videos for most of their items. Watch those! They’re a wealth of information.

My Favorite Dresses & Skirts in the #NSale 2023

Dresses are, well, dresses. But they’re having a moment! Maybe it’s a delayed reaction from the pandemic, but women are wanting to dress up again. And I see so many beautiful dresses in this year’s sale, from casual to work to special occasion.

The tweedy textured cap sleeve fit & flare dress above is so feminine and pretty in that mauve mix. But I also love the gorgeous florals I find in this year’s sale. And I’ve got this stunning plum wine smocked waist midi skirt in my top priority wish list (IYKYK). It’s just like my gorgeous Vince floral skirt that fits so well. By the way, that floral skirt is on sale now for 40% off, but this plum wine smocked waist midi skirt is even less and it will be at least a three-season favorite. I think it will go fast.

My Favorite Coats in the #NSale 2023

Oh my goodness. The coats! We’re seeing a lot of texture again this year. Think fleece and suede and tweed. But they also have some gorgeous elevated classics in camel and navy and black. I’m getting this ivory faux shearling coat. I actually already ordered it during the first hour of the Preview when Nordstrom had a glitch and you could actually order things, not just put them in your wish list. And yes, they’re sending it on. So I can let you know more about it on Monday!

But I think the Kelly Green coat above is a knockout, and yes, green is still trending this year. I also am considering ordering one of the more luxurious coats, too, maybe this wool & alpaca blend jacket. Oh! And this is the year of the trench coat! We saw lots of them in the spring and they’re back in new lengths and silhouettes and fabrics. I love this faux leather one, but there are many in the sale. But you’ll also find some beautiful puffer coats, field coats, rain jackets and more.

Pro Tip: If you wear a lot of neutrals, consider picking up a colored coat in this year’s sale. They have some lovely choices from plum wine to Kelly green to pink to blue. If you wear a lot of colors, maybe it’s time to add a new black, ivory, navy or grey coat to your closet. They have some lovely selections.

My Favorite Jackets & Blazers in the #NSale 2023

Come fall we’ll be ready to add that third piece to our outfits again (imagine that!), and you’ll find so many great options in this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The little Caslon knit blazer that we’ve seen in the #NSale for as long as I’ve been shopping it is back, but with a big update. It still has that relaxed, casual vibe, but it features exposed surged seams on the sleeves and a single button, plus a new silhouette. I love this update. And it still comes in several nice colors. At less than $50 this is a great option for women with a truly casual lifestyle.

Of course, I spotted some beautiful premium blazers in this year’s sale, too. I love this pine green lacey knit blazer by L’Agence, the metallic tweed dickey jacket from Veronica Beard (especially perfect for petites or short torsos) and the plaid longline blazer from Vince Camuto (great price!). And this single button relaxed fit blazer from Lafayette 148 is stunning!

But there are so many other great jackets besides blazers. My Allsaints Dalby leather biker jacket is back in a beautiful moonlight pink. I love that jacket, and mine fits true to size in a 10. The moonlight pink is in my wish list right now. We’ll see! I also love this Nordstrom leather jacket in blue ceramic, black and rainy day beige. And this denim biker jacket is super cool. And what do you think about this plaid zip trucker jacket?

My Favorite Pants in the #NSale 2023

Because dressing up a little is the name of the game these days, pants other than jeans are really trending. There are some great tailored pants with pleated fronts as well as more relaxed silhouettes with elasticized waistbands, like these Millie wide leg trousers by Allsaints.

I have those in my wish list. But I’m also considering the Vince tapered pull-on trousers or these Eileen Fisher tapered ankle pants. At a lower price point, check out the Spanx high waist straight leg ponte pants. These are GREAT pants. And I also recommend the Gilmore cotton blend pants for a casual option.

My Favorite Tops & Shirts in the #NSale 2023

As I mentioned in my earlier post about the Fall Trends I’m Seeing in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview, button up shirts are continuing to be THE top. And there are so many good ones in this sale. You’ll find a couple from Frank & Eileen, a lot from Rails and so many others. But it’s not just plain button up shirts. Check out the contemporary paisley shirt from L’Agence below.

Another trend I’m seeing in tops is cowl neck shells and blouses. I found beautiful red cowl neck shells at three different price points: the Vince, and this one by Vince Camuto and this one by Halogen at a really sweet price. And this cowl neck satin cami by Allsaints is swoon-worthy. Of course I included basic tees and other tops in my selection of best finds below, too.

My Favorite Loungewear & Sleepwear in the #NSale 2023

I like getting a fresh set of pajamas in the #NSale each year. Last year I got these in black and right now the purple pair is in my wish list. But I think I’ll get these pretty floral pajamas instead this year.

And I’m finding several great options for loungewear in the sale, too. The Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Ultra Lite Lounge Shirt & Pants below looks dreamy. I got the Barefoot Dreams circle cardigan last year, but I don’t think they’re included in the sale this year. That’s probably for the best; they’ve been in the sale for years. And this year they have their short robe and it is quite tempting.

My Favorite Athleisure & Activewear in the #NSale 2023

Nordstrom always has lots of great activewear and athleisure selections from their house brand, Zella. Definitely check those out if you’re in need of workout clothes or sporty athleisure. But you’ll also find good selections from brands like Alo, Sweaty Betty and Nike. And the Frank & Eileen separates below definitely work as elevated athleisure, so chic.

My Favorite Handbags in the #NSale 2023

I think there are some great handbags in this year’s sale. I especially think Allsaints knocked it out of the park. LOVE the Allsaints small Allington tote. It comes in tan and black, too.

That Allsaints small Allington tote is in my wish list, but I’m even more interested in the Hobo Jett leather belt bag. I love a good belt bag for when you’re trying to keep it close to you. I’m more likely to wear it across my body from the shoulder. I also found great bags from Coach and Kate Spade. I’ve included some nice luggage in the shopping widget below, too.

My Favorite Shoes in the #NSale 2023

Lots of great shoes in the sale, too! I’m telling you, this is just a good sale this year. Loafers are really trending, both lug sole and more traditional. And I found so many great sneakers, including these Paul Green leather sneakers. I love my Paul Green sneakers. This year I’m considering the Allsaints low top sneakers.

Those Gentle Souls Laniey Sandals would make great wear-now/wear-later shoes that you could pair with early fall outfits. You’ll find more of my favorites below. In fact, I found so many so I created three widgets!

My Favorite Boots in the #NSale 2023

I tend to wear my booties to pieces each fall and winter, so I’m always looking for great deals in this category. The 27 Edit Naturalize Felix bootie in black is so chic and a great price. It’s available in two other beautiful neutrals. We continue to see western inspired boots and booties, so that BP Monikka western boot looks like worth a try.

The Franco Sarto Dalden Bootie above only comes in that umber brown, but isn’t it luxe? And I love the heel height on it, too. I found lots of other great options below.

My Favorite Accessories in the #NSale 2023

I’ve decided I’m definitely coming out of this Nordstrom Anniversary Sale with a pair of good designer sunglasses. I purchased a pair by Tory Burch three years ago and I still wear them, but they’re about done. So I’m considering the Burberry square sunglasses or the Prada cay eye sunglasses, both below. But there are so many other great sunnies to choose from, including these economically priced gradient square sunglasses from Quay Australia

Since I acquired several new pieces of jewelry this summer, I’m probably not looking for any in the #NSale. But normally I get a few pieces from Kendra Scott, and I do think their Rowan pearl chain necklace looks like a great choice. And if you’re looking for something more substantial, you’ll find several good options among the Bony Levy brand or Monica Vinader.

My Favorite Beauty Exclusives in the #NSale 2023

I have things I look for every year among the beauty exclusives, and they’re on my wish list already this year. I’ll definitely get the Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Wash. I use it every morning to wash my face in the shower. And a little goes a long way. I really think I’m just now finishing up the bottle I bought in last year’s #NSale. I’ll also get the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm to use in the evenings.

I’m also out of my Necessaire the body wash so I have this duo on my wish list. I use a similar Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer to dry my hair and love it. Can you dry your hair well without a pricey hairdryer? Absolutely. But I have not regretted purchasing mine at all. I’ve filled the shopping widget with other things I love, many of which I will get or already own.
