How I Really Dressed for my Day This Week

Happy Friday! It’s been a busy and fulfilling week, and the spring weather has shown its true colors with typical ups and downs. Some days I’ve bundled up a little and others I’ve worn lighter fabrics and shorter sleeves. Ahh, spring! Let’s see how I really dressed for my day this first full week of spring.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore to a Speaking Engagement Friday

Last Friday was such a fun day. I had the honor of speaking to a group of women at the Cincinnati Woman’s Club about my business. I love speaking to groups of women, so I was excited about that. But I also really enjoyed the charm and tradition of this historical woman’s club (over 130 years old!). It was a pretty spring day, but the temperatures were quite cool in the morning, so I dressed accordingly.

Veronica Beard blazer // slim-leg pants // similar graphic tee // slingback heels // similar purse // earrings

I actually put on three outfits I’d been considering that morning and had my husband see each of them before giving me his analysis. He liked them all, but he declared that my Veronica Beard blazer and coordinating Renzo pants with this graphic tee was “perfection.” Thus I walked out the door feeling confident and snappy.

What I Wore Out & About Saturday

I often work through the weekend, but this past week I managed to earn a weekend off. I asked James if we could take a little journey to somewhere new. So he planned a little daytrip through the countryside of Kentucky.

green cashmere crewneck sweater // striped shirt // high rise barrel pants (C/O) // belt // sneakers // necklace // earrings

Again it was a pretty spring day, but windy and a little chilly. So I felt comfortable and sporty in my new high rise barrel pants from Athleta. These 52% Recycled Polyester/34% Cotton/14% Spandex pants have nice stretch for easy movement, are quick-drying and rip-resistant, are UPF 40 rated and are breathable and cool…perfect for travel, but also modern and fun. I topped them with a striped tee and actually wore the green cashmere sweater the first leg of our daytrip then tied it around my shoulders for the remainder of the day.

How I Dressed for Church Sunday

Our home church is small and casual. So, while I generally still dress up a little, I opted to go more casual on this cool day.

linen shacket // graphic tee // trouser jeans // similar belt // booties (C/O) (Use code KAYBOOTS for $50 off your first pair of Ally boots) // necklace // earrings

I’ve enjoyed wearing wide leg trouser jeans so much lately. I really hope they don’t go out of vogue any time soon because I’ve decided they are my absolute favorite style, as long as they have a high waist. I topped these mid-wash jeans with a fun graphic tee and shirt jacket. And I completed the outfit with my caramel booties, belt and shoulder bag.

Monday’s Final Outfit

Monday morning we got out fairly early to shoot photos for the blog. It was a pretty, sunny morning and we had high winds coming in later that day, so we needed to get the job done. I modeled several fun outfits from Lands’ End at Nordstrom, which you’ll probably see in Monday’s blog post. But I ended up the photo session in this outfit from Saks Fifth Avenue, where they’ve extended their Friends & Family event through March 31.

silk blouse (TTS)// drawstring pants (TTS; wearing a large, but probably should have gotten the medium) // sandals // bag // necklace // earrings // bracelet

We ended up at a local coffee shop after the photo shoot, so I wore this outfit there and then at home to work in my office. It’s a little lightweight for most spring days in Ohio, but I’ll enjoy wearing these drawstring Tencel pants and silk blouse this summer. They’re investment pieces, but marked down 25% in the Saks Friends & Family event.

How I Dressed for an Evening Live Performance

I’m taping a video today with outfit formulas for spring events and activities. Knowing what to wear to certain events is something I often struggle with. Tuesday we had tickets to attend a play at a Cincinnati theatre. It was fairly cold and rainy. But it’s spring and I didn’t want to wear winter clothes. What to wear?

collared button-up sweater // jacket old and not available // wide leg cargo pants // booties (C/O) (Use code KAYBOOTS for $50 off your first pair of Ally boots) // necklace no longer available // earrings // crossbody bag

I was so glad I have these black wide leg cargo pants. I have worn them even more than I expected to. They look dressy and classic, but very current and hip. I find I default to black pants frequently for events, so I like having a variety of them in different silhouettes and fabrics. I felt appropriately dressed but also a little extra in these pants topped with a slim fitting merino wool sweater. And when I remembered that I had this black and white print spring coat (from Talbots a couple of years ago), I knew I had the perfect outfit for the evening.

Women were dressed in everything from jeans to dresses that evening. But most women wore outfits similar to what I wore, something elevated casual.

How I Dressed Wednesday to Work from Home

Wednesday was just a work from home day. After getting in a morning workout, I changed into these barrel leg jeans from Lands’ End that I’m featuring in a future blog post. They are super comfortable and I really like the quality. They also come in white and another denim. They fit true to size for a slightly loose fit. So if you’re between sizes, you might consider sizing down (at least in this Crawford wash). But I’m wearing my usual 10.

button up (TTS) // ivory cashmere sweater (more economical option) // relaxed barrel leg jean // sandals // belt

I topped my jeans with a favorite button-up shirt and added a belt. I’ve been trying out shoes to share in a “comfortable shoes for spring and summer travel” video since I’ve gotten so many requests for that. So on this day I wore my new Vionic leather sandals, which I will indeed recommend in that video. They’re a little chunky looking, but quite comfortable for a day of walking.

That’s a wrap! Thanks so much for dropping in for a little everyday style inspiration. I didn’t really get dressed in one thing on Thursday since we were shooting photos and videos most of the day. And today we’re back at it. I hope you have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

The Lord has given us each work to do. Sometimes I wrestle against that work and prefer to sit and do nothing. Important chores go undone and I begin to feel and see the results of my laziness. The kitchen starts looking less tidy as dirty dishes wait on the counter and clean dishes sit in the dishwasher. Clean clothes mound up in the laundry basket waiting to be folded and put away in the drawers. Emails go unanswered and appointments need to be made.

That’s when I have to remind myself that God has blessed me with work to do so that I’ll have the things I need. If I don’t work, I can’t expect to have my needs provided for. God is a not a genie in a bottle who provides our every wish on command. He is a good provider who gives us the fruit of our labor and blesses us with the sweet satisfaction of a job well done.

One who works his land will have plenty of bread,
But one who pursues worthless things lacks sense ~ Proverbs 12:11

  1. These posts describing what you really wore are among my favorites. How you put things together helps me to utilize what I already have as well as integrate new pieces like you’ve purchased. Thanks for all you do!

    1. I totally agree with you. Love all of these outfits. I don’t spend that kind of money on clothes but I look to put together similar designs.

  2. We are having a typical Spring here in Northern California as well. The week started out in the 80’s then rain moved in making it feel like a cool Fall day. Glad I kept some sweaters out as I had packed away most of the winter clothes. I think you look amazing in the red sweater shirt. Not my color as a warm autumn. Im also not sure I could pull off the barrel jeans but they do look very nice on you. Thanks for all you do. Have a blessed weekend

  3. I look forward to this weekly post. I find it so helpful in coordinating my own clothing items in new ways, I also like to see how you dress for certain occasions. Thank you for doing what you do,

  4. Nice outfits every day – spring is indeed challenging with the weather going in every direction where I live in Pennsylvania! I also hope wide-leg jeans and pants stick around as I’ve purchased them in different fabrics and love them all – if we all keep wearing them, will that keep them in style?!? Your BFMD inspiration must have been my house! Hope you get some relaxation this weekend, too!

  5. Such great options, so put together without looking overdone. I am packing for a 30 day cruise and your posts give me ideas on how to put my pieces together to create causal modern looks. It is helpful to know where you worn each outfit as well. Thank you for sharing.
Now, I better get to my housework…

  6. Needed the Blessed for my Day!!! I’ve felt so blah and unmotivated this last month. Enjoyed reading this post too. Cute outfit choices.

  7. Thank you Kay. I love this weekly blog. I love the Talbots coat on you. It looks so classy. Too bad it’s not available.

  8. Kay, all of your outfits are so stylish and look pulled-together. I especially like what you wore to your speaking engagement. Thank you for sharing!

  9. I really like these posts about how you dress each week. I also struggle with knowing how to dress for spring when it’s still winter outside.

  10. My favorite of the outfits is the barrel leg pants from Athleta with the striped shirt. You really look good in the barrel leg silhouette and it makes me want to try them!

  11. I loved all outfits and how you put them together. I’m really looking forward to the post on comfortable shoes.

  12. My favorite outfit is the one with the wide leg jeans. That’s my favorite style with the high waist when I want to look dressy in jeans. You look good in all the outfits. I like the barrel jeans on you. Our weather finally cooled down and we got much needed rain. March has been very warm this year even for Texas.

  13. I liked all your outfits. I also love wide lag jeans and hope they stick around. Also, because of you I bought a black belt and a light brown belt and I wear them a lot. Even though I’m a larger woman I get lots of compliments on the belted look. Thanks!

  14. My favorite is the outfit you wore for your Saturday outing with James. Casual and put together.

Thanks for sharing your outfits – I always get some new ideas.

  15. Those bionic sandals look really nice I’m thinking about ordering them, but I have some pretty large bunions. I didn’t know how that would work with the way the strap that goes across the foot near the toes is located. If you think they would work with, I didn’t order a medium or a wide, because the bunions to make my feet wider. thanks for your advice on this matter.

  16. I love seeing all of your classic outfit inspirations. They definitely inspire us to create similar outfits from our own closet. Thank you!

  17. Funny you mentioned you like the trouser jeans the best and hope the silhouette stays in vogue for a while. I feel the same way. Took me a while to find a pair that was well proportioned for me as a petite, but now that I have, it’s my favorite style of denim.

  18. Great idea – the red sweater with the Talbots black and white topper coat. I have that coat and wore it with black pants and a black sweater, but your choice of red made it sing! Thanks for showing that. We don’t have much opportunity here in OH to wear these “in between seasons” pieces sometimes. We go from big puffers to light jackets some years.

  19. Your days are so busy with lots of variety. I sometimes wonder if it’s not a little tiresome pulling together yet another outfit. You must really love what you do, because you always look intentionally put together. You are my inspiration.

  20. Our spring weather is all over the place too! Love how flexible and versatile your wardrobe is – ready to go with the flow and embrace the daily changes!

  21. You looked fantastic all week long. I especially loved Monday’s outfit for the luncheon and your final outfit on Monday. Have a great day!

  22. These are such helpful posts. Could you highlight different belts for all our outfits? As we have moved back to using belts much more in fashion, I find I am struggling to have what I need.

  23. I really like the barrel pants! I didn’t think that I did – but they look good on you. I’m a size larger than you but I ordered them to see what they looked like. I am so glad to get them without shipping!!! Hope you have a great day.
