How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Happy Friday! I think I finally caught up on my work, my sleep and a few other things in my life. So this weekend I ought to be able to chill a little bit. And all this week I’ve been a little off on what day it was, due to the holiday on Monday. You, too? But indeed it is Friday, and that means it’s time to share my real life outfits for this week.

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask.

All available items are linked in the captions of the photos. Even if they don’t look like links (sometimes they don’t highlight for some reason), they generally are. So just click through if you’re interested.

What I Wore Thursday

My office looked like a train wreck when I returned from my trip to London. My son and daughter-in-law had been in the guest bedroom while I was gone so James and I had hurriedly moved my “mess” from there to my office just before I headed off to London. And it has taken me a while to get things sorted. It’s clean now, but you’ll be seeing my OOTD photos taken outside and other places for a few of these days.

Thursday I worked from home and I had a nail appointment in the afternoon. I think I ducked into Talbots quickly that afternoon, too. It was a very cool day, high in the low 70s, so this cashmere tee and midi length denim skirt felt perfect.

What I Wore Friday

Friday was just a work from home day. I was prepping to shoot videos the next day, so my work included a lot of trying things on, ironing and steaming. I look a little worse for the wear here. Ha!

Actually I think Friday we also took the photos for yesterday’s blog post in the morning. So I just kept on the dog days graphic tee I’d worn in one of my 2×2 outfits and switched into the lightweight stretch wide leg pants for the day at home. These pants have become favorites. They’re lightweight, activewear type pants, but I actually like them better than similar pants I’ve had from Athleta. That’s saying a lot! Ooh! And they are included in Talbots’ 25% off pants deal.

That’s Cooper with me above. Isn’t he cute? We’ve been keeping him while our son and daughter-in-law are in Italy. I’m trying to figure out how to tell them that they can’t have him back. Hmm…

What I Wore Sunday

Saturday we shot videos, so I never really settled into one outfit. I went from pajamas to the many outfits I modeled, to the two I present in and then to some sort of lounge clothes. Ha.

But here’s what I wore Sunday. I had gotten in this fun, lightweight, midi length chino skirt in from J.Crew and was so anxious to wear it. We’re very casual at church, so I decided to pair it with a sweet graphic tee I didn’t wear nearly enough this summer.

I’m wearing a size 29 in the chino skirt and the size m/l in the belt. The sandals have turned out to be some of my favorites this summer as I’ve really begun to enjoy wearing more cognac leather. They’re on sale and I think you get another 40% off. And there seem to be plenty of sizes still available, too.

What I Wore Monday

I think I just worked from home Monday. I had to turn in Wednesday’s video for brand approval by Monday afternoon, so I just had to. But it was fine. We had already determined we’d take Tuesday off instead. But I still got dressed for my day. I wore my green cargo pants with a graphic tee, and I accessorized with those cognac belt and sandals again.

But it looks like I forgot to put any jewelry on that day. Ha! Well, like I said, I was stuck at the computer most of the day.

What I Wore Tuesday

Isn’t it funny how much better I look when I get a day off? Ha! Tuesday I truly took the day off. Yippee! We went to see the movie The Hill, with Dennis Quaid. We really enjoyed it. And then we went out to dinner.

white linen button-up shirt (similar short sleeve button up) // cargo pants // belt // sandals sold out (similar) // cross body bag is old // earrings

I love creating easy-on-the-eyes outfits with white and beige. So this seemed like a good day to get a little more wear out of my white linen shirt. You don’t have to put linen away after Labor Day, but I generally do put mine away and pull it back out in the summer. But you could create a similar early fall outfit with another top option, obviously. I liked how the cognac sandals, belt and camera bag added a little “texture” to this otherwise buttery outfit. I have a size 29 in these cargo pants, by the way. So I’d say they run a little large.

What I Wore Wednesday

Wednesday it was back to work. Well, actually I took things at a slower pace, but I did just spend the day at home. Still in the beige and white mood, I wore my Frank & Eileen linen trousers with a sweater vest from last year.

v-neck sweater vest // white pants // tory burch sandals // necklace stack // earrings

I absolutely do think it’s perfectly grand to keep wearing this particular color combination into the fall and beyond if you like. I do put my white pants and jeans away for the winter just because I don’t really reach for them much and I kind of like to save them for the warmer months. But you do not have to. And if you live in a warmer climate, you especially may enjoy continuing to wear your white.

What I Wore Thursday

Then yesterday I worked at home for a bit and then made a quick trip to the mall. I had to make a few returns and pick up a sweater I wanted to pair with a skirt for an upcoming blog post. I wore my black pants from Anthropologie with a simple, crewneck white tee and my cashmere button-up vest.

white tee // pink vest // black pants // belt //  mules (also in cognac) (more economical option) // necklace // earrings

I started out in these mules, but I confess I changed into my Paul Green loafers (no longer available) before I went out. I’ve bruised the bottom of my foot somehow and I needed a very cushioned shoe to walk on. I do hope this heals itself, but I’ve got a bit of a limp for now. I’ll have to go to the doctor if it doesn’t clear up. Bleh.

Well, that’s what I wore this past week. We’re having some pretty decent early fall-like weather, so I’m enjoying the opportunity to put together some fall-ish outfits. Thanks so much for stopping in. And let me know if you have any questions. Have a great Friday!

Blessed for My Day

Do people ever ask you for advice? Maybe a friend or your sister? Maybe your grown son or daughter or a grandchild? Maybe your husband even runs things by you, seeking your perspective. When you do get the opportunity to share some insight, what’s your source? Do you shoot from the hip, quote Oprah or refer back to how someone else dealt with that same situation? Or do you pause, pray and then “proclaim Him?”

Hmm. Colossians 1:28 is convicting for me. I must confess, quite often I just rattle off the first thing that comes to my mind when someone asks for my two cents. But I could give them something of much more value if I made sure my advice squared up with scripture. Let’s ask the Lord to help us be more aware of those opportunities to provide wisdom and not just worldly chatter. And let’s commit to proclaiming Jesus every opportunity we get.

We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ. ~ Colossians 1:28

  1. Kay, how does denim skirt sizing work? 39? 30? How does that relate to 10, 12, 14? Also how does the rear view look on midi skirts? I’m afraid it will be boxy looking. But I’d really like to wear one! What type of booties would work, meaning how tall should the shaft/ankle be?

Love cognac accessories and have you to thank for that. Can you give a session on skinny belts which you said were trending? Like a save and splurge?

    1. Hi Nancy. A 30 is generally a 10 and a 29 is generally an 8 and so forth. I’m wearing a 29 in the pieces from JCrew but I’m wearing more 10s than 8s these days so I’m saying they run a little large. I think the skirts look pretty nice from the back, but that’s just my opinion. I think you can wear most any height of boot shaft; I probably wouldn’t want one that is too, too high. But I think you just have to eyeball it for a final decision.

  2. Such cute outfits! I especially like the one with the dog t-shirt. Cooper is adorable! I see how you would want to keep him!

I wore a lot of long skirts and dresses in my “hyper modest” days so I’m not crazy about that trend. Also, I’m petite so I don’t think they look good on me. I love knowing the trends though, even though they may not work for me. I wore my shorter jean skirt with a t-shirt and white tennis shoes and enjoyed it.

I so enjoyed this post! Thanks!

  3. Hi Kay, just have to tell you how much I like your hairstyle. It is so youthful and very flattering. It suits you! You’re one person who looks great in hot pink. Not sure I could pull that off. Love the beige and white combos which I think I will extend into the cold month.

  4. Hi Kay I’m quite jealous about all the lovely clothes you wear. Wish I could also be able to have some of them. Unfortunately I’m from Namibia and the variety of the fashion here is limited. To order from the USA will be too expensive. Anyway thanks for your daily inspirasion. Regards Larette
