How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Welcome to the doldrums of winter. Amiright? This is about the time I tire of trying to put together unique or new winter outfits and instead settle into enjoying my favorites on repeat. Favorite pieces, favorite outfit formulas, favorite coats and favorite accessories. So as I run through my real life outfits from this third week of January you will indeed notice some repeats. But I wear them proudly. Here’s how I really dressed for my day this week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore Last Friday for a Busy Day at Home

After being out and about Thursday, I settle in for a day of housekeeping Friday. We were preparing to head to Georgia this Tuesday, so I needed to get some things done around the house before I tackled the two videos that needed to be edited.

flannel shirt (TTS) // fleece pants (TTS) // cardigan (TTS) // sneakers

I really enjoy wearing my casual Frank & Eileen styles on days like these. They’re comfortable, but still look smart and feel stylish. I probably only had on my sneakers for a dash to the mailbox. I wore my slippers most of the day with this cozy at home outfit.

How I Dressed Saturday

Saturday I spent most of the day working on this week’s YouTube video (linked below), but I needed to get dressed in some color to shoot a few Instagram features. It felt like a good day to wear some comfortable, favorite jeans and a colorful sweater.

I just can’t seem to get enough of wearing scarves lately. I’m enjoying adding them to sweaters to create different looks.

What I Wore to Church Sunday

After dressing up the last few Sundays I decided to go a little more casual this week. Everyone dresses casually all the time except for me, and sometimes I feel like I need to dial it down a bit, at least occasionally.

similar sweater // scarf and similar scarf // jeans (sized up to 31, but maybe shouldn’t have) // boots

I decided on a pair of darker wash wide leg jeans with a favorite green pullover cashmere sweater. I’d gotten in this new Kate Spade scarf the day before, so decided to take it for a whirl. It was a messy day, so I wore my Easy Spirit booties.

My Travel Day Outfit

Monday I was a slave to my desk and never changed out of workout clothes. All day I hoped I’d be able to get out for a walk, but it just didn’t happen. Anyhow, I did get next week’s YouTube video edited and ready to go live next week.

Tuesday we drove to Georgia to take care of our little granddaughter for a few days while her parents are away at a wedding. After we pass her on to her other grandparents today (Friday), James is driving home to Cincinnati, hoping to get ahead of the snow storm. And I’m spending a week with my parents.

ruffle collar button up shirt // cardigan // pants // booties// purse // earrings

It was quite cold when we got in the car to start our journey. But it was a sunny day and we made the trip just fine. I wore my Ayr High Hopes pants, which have turned into big time favorites, with a new ruffle collar Eileen shirt and my cozy cotton cardigan. This photo was taken at the end of the day, so I certainly look a little worse for the wear. Ha! But I felt comfortable and pulled together in this outfit.

What Mimi Wore Wednesday

Wednesday was our first full day with our granddaughter, and we all did splendidly. She stopped whimpering for her parents in 15 seconds, and we rolled through the rest of the day without a hiccup. The highlights were going to Whataburger for lunch and baking peanut butter cookies together.

sweater (more economical option) // button up shirt // jeans // booties// earrings

Craving a little color, I pulled this Liberty print button up shirt out of my spring storage wardrobe just before packing for the trip. I notice they came out with it again this year. It’s one of my absolutely Frank & Eileen shirts. I wore it with my Jenni Kayne cashmere fisherman sweater and some favorite jeans.

Mimi’s Thursday Outfit

Yesterday we headed over to my parents’ home to have lunch and visit for a while. My granddaughter absolutely loves going to their home, and we all had a great time together. The highlight was dancing together to Motown hits. Hahaha!

sweater // scarves to shop that are available // jeans // boots

After lunch I rode back “home” in the back seat with my granddaughter to keep her awake. We needed her to get in her full nap in her bed. Ha! While she napped, I had a video conference call with two of my blogger friends and then did a little work. I enjoyed wearing my Paige jeans for a second time this week. And my Quince cashmere sweater served me well with a silk scarf. I love that you can turn a scarf to a different side and get completely different colors.

Thanks so much for dropping in. As you can see, I’m leaning into my favorite style formula of jeans and pullover sweater a lot these days. But I am also wearing a lot of button-up shirts as well. What are you enjoying these days?

Blessed for My Day

Do you have a competitive streak? Hahaha! I sure do. Sometimes competition is legitimate and healthy. Other times our competitiveness is a result of envy and discontent, and it breeds more of the same. It’s certainly admirable to want to be your best. But to desire to be THE best in any one area can be a distraction from our real purpose and other equally important life goals. I have a feeling the enemy of our souls is the one who plants those seeds of competition, so we best be on guard against them.

Jesus reminded His disciples that the mark of a real winner is service. Serving others selflessly and without recognition certainly doesn’t seem like the path to success. But in God’s economy, it is. So today let’s turn those desires to “be the best” into a passion to serve instead. As we focus on others and serving them genuinely and authentically, we’ll discover what true success is all about.

And sitting down, He called the twelve and *said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” ~ Mark 9:35

xoxo, Kay

  1. It sounds like you have had a busy week so thank you for taking the time to show us your outfits for each day. I always enjoy seeing what you have worn. The scarves are really enhancing what you are wearing and I like to see how you are wearing them.
I hope the storm doesn’t cause you any problems.

  2. Another fun Friday post, Kay! I am also enjoying favorites on repeat. For me it’s been either jeans or athleisure pants topped with a sweater or a nicer long sleeve tee (and usually a cardigan over the tee that I can remove during the afternoon if the temps get into 70s).

I also wanted to report back that I did purchase the That’s Pretty Clever game you recommended in the kids version. A couple of weeks ago two of my granddaughters had an early release school day – so I picked them up and we went to Wendy’s to get fries and frostys to enjoy while we played our new game for a while. They loved it! And this week I bought the adult version to share with my 15 year old granddaughter who is spending the night tonight.

  3. Fun times with your little one. Frigid here too, but I don’t mind. Wish I could do housework in my Frank and Eileen. I think I’m a messy to work in expensive clothing. Lol. Sure wish they would make their denim shirts w/o the chewed hem. Just a bit much for my age

  4. A sweater and trouser jeans is an outfit that I could easily wear on repeat. 🙂 I love the look of your Liberty print button down under the JK sweater.

  5. Love your sweater and jean combo and adding the scarf is perfect!
It looks classy and a bit dressy and keeps your neck warm on these cold days
So happy you enjoyed time with your granddaughter

  6. Thank you for sharing. You look so pretty for being around the house. I am glad that James headed home today. I live in Ohio in Kirtland, Lake county, just east of Cleveland, Yes, I guess the Ohio Valley will really get hit! Have a fun time with the baby.

  7. I appreciate your blogs so much and you have had a great influence on my style. Right now I am thinking about James on the road!! and you in the stormy South! I hope you are both safe and sound.

    1. Ahh, thank you so much. James is home safe and sound. And I’m doing well in Georgia. Not much ice where we are after all.
