Happy weekend! It’s time for me to share a round up of my real life outfits for the past week. Not only do many of my readers seem to enjoy these posts, but I really benefit from taking these outfit photos and then evaluating them. You might want to try doing that, too, if you’re trying to define your style or trying to remain truer to it. Let’s see how I really dressed for my day this cold winter week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.
Mother-Daughter Luncheon Outfits
We’re starting this set of photos with last Saturday when my daughter Abigail and I enjoyed a long mother-daughter luncheon at a favorite restaurant. We’d had a full week with all the family around, and it was high time for a little time for just the two of us. So we dressed up a little and headed out.

It wasn’t until we were ready to walk out the door that we realized that our outfits coordinated. Ha! I hadn’t had an opportunity to wear my blue velvet pants, so I opted to wear those with a burgundy cardigan sweater and brown accessories. Abby had brought along her chestnut corduroy dress (which has more of a burgundy hue to me). And her husband gave her those beautiful waterproof leather boots for Christmas. We had such a sweet time lingering over a tasty lunch and then doing just a bit of shopping.
What I Wore Sunday
Sunday James and I went to church while our houseguests stayed behind to pack. I originally took photos of this outfit to use in a blog post, but I decided to just share one here instead. I was looking a little tired (ok exhausted) after having our kids home for a week.

I love the combination of pink and grey. And we can expect to see more of this trending color combination as we head into spring and summer.
A Winter Day Out and About
Monday the last of our kids travelled home. I still look tired! In fact, you may notice that I look pretty worn out in all of these photos. My kids certainly did not do anything to cause that, but James and I worked really hard that week to make Christmas special for everyone, and I think it just caught up with us.

Anyhow I headed off fairly early for a much needed nail appointment followed by lunch out. I felt comfortable and warm in my jeans and turtleneck sweater as snow flurries fell and the temperatures dropped that day.
What I Wore to the Movies
Tuesday we took advantage of matinee prices and went to see Song Sung Blue in the theater. I needed to dress warm, but I knew I may need to keep my coat in my seat with me. So I needed to wear a fairly small coat and carry a manageable bag.

I felt comfortable and pulled together in my Barbour half zip sweater and coordinating jacket with black jeans and booties. It turned out I had the seat next to me available for my coat, but it would have worked if I’d needed to hold it. By the way, we thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but it is a bit of a roller coaster.
Work From Home Outfit
Wednesday I was home all day trying to prep a little for the new year. I spent a good bit of the day in front of the fire dreaming and scheming. I really want to produce content here and at the YouTube channel that resonates with you and provides valuable take-away. Let me know if there are particular types of blog posts of videos you’d like to see more of in 2025.

I navigated the day in this pretty green sweater, recently gifted to me by Veronica Beard, and a favorite pair of jeans. By the way the sweater is on sale and it runs true to size. I wear a medium comfortably for a nice fit.
New Year’s Day Football Watching Outfit
Thursday I chose to keep my outfit casual and comfortable as we would be watching football for most of the afternoon and evening. Things didn’t quite go the way we hoped they would on the field, but we enjoyed a slow and easy start to the new year.

I wore this flannel button-up shirt several times during the holidays, sometimes with my Ayr High Hopes pants, sometimes with the fleece pants shown above and at least once with jeans. I like that it’s lightweight and not too long.
Anniversary Getaway Monochromatic Outfit
This weekly real life outfits post is a little late going up this week because I took most of Friday off. It was our 38th wedding anniversary so we got away for a quick overnight trip to Covington, Kentucky, just over the Ohio river. This was our second year to go there for our celebration and we enjoy it so much.

We left the house in the mid afternoon and I wore what I planned to wear to dinner at Blinkers Tavern that evening. (I had the spaghetti aglio e olio and it was some of the best pasta I’ve ever eaten and James had a delicious steak.) I was going to do a column of brown, but decided at the last minute to go all brown. I don’t know why, but I always find it just a tad “scary” to wear a true monochromatic outfit. Do you? Anyhow I absolutely loved the results. I think this was clearly my favorite look of the week.
Thanks so much for dropping in. What do you think? Should I continue these “how I really dressed for my day” posts in 2026? I’m thinking about changing the day for them, but first I’d love to hear from you so I’ll know if they’re a good value to your or not. Have a lovely weekend!

Blessed for My Day
I started reading the Bible through again this past Thursday after completing it on Wednesday. It always amazes me a little how fresh Genesis 1 feels every January. This year as I read it I noticed something I’d never really pondered before. I paused as I saw that God simply spoke each component of the world into existence, yet He paused at the end of each day to enjoy what He’d created. He didn’t rush the process, but paced Himself instead, savoring His satisfaction as He went.
This made me think that I need to pace myself a little better in my life, too. Most days I seem to be rushing through things, whether that’s because I’m frequently a little behind or I’m just trying to cram too much into a day. And rarely do I pause for long to savor my accomplishments or the blessings in my life. I’m trying to do a little better at that this year. That means making the most of my time by cutting out wasted efforts, but also slowing down to enjoy the processes of things like cooking a meal, taking a walk or enjoying lunch with a friend.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ~ Genesis 1:1
I do enjoy seeing what you actually wore, even if I seldom comment about that post – I am always looking for fresh ideas that apply to “real life,” although what you wear often is more “dressed up” than my daily looks – I won’t be posting mine anytime soon :)!
Yes please continue to show us your daily outfits. I find it not only interesting but inspirational and a great reminder about dressing for my real life.
Happy New Year! Yes, please continue your “real life” outfits. I love seeing them. My favorite this week was the Frank and Eileen plaid shirt and black lounge pants.
Yes, please keep the “how I really dressed…” posts. They are one of my favorites and I look forward to them every week. I love to see what others actually wear in real life. Your blog is such an inspiration and has helped me with own wardrobe. Looking forward to 2026 with you! 🙂
I enjoy seeing what you actually wear on a daily basis. It motivates me to strive to be put together even if I am staying at home all day.
Hi Kay – I enjoy seeing what you and other bloggers actually wear. I never come close to wearing anything as extravagant but it’s nice to see how you put the outfits together. Please continue the posts.
Hi Kay I low the What I really wore this week segments.
I love your all brown outfit u wore for your anniversary- looks classy and put together. What are a few places you like in Covington, Ky ? We live in Ohio and are always looking for new places that aren’t too far away.
We’ve stayed in a few hotels, but one favorite is the Hotel Covington. We’ve enjoyed meals at Otto’s in Newport, Blinkers Tavern and Coppin’s. We also like to get coffee at Carabello Coffee Co. There are a lot of historic places to visit I’m sure. We just haven’t done that, but I’d love to. And we love walking the Roebling Bridge if the weather permits.
Hi Kay,
Yes, I would like to see the “How I Really Dressed for My Day” feature continue. I enjoy seeing the outfits and reading about your choices for the occasions.
Thank you!
I enjoy the “How Dressed for my Day” and the reason why posts.
In my humble opinion I think you should not change a thing. I do enjoy seeing these outfits, so my vote is to keep doing what works so well.
Dear Kay. You are always so upbeat and affirming (for women our age). Thank you! Personally, I love the column of brown you showed. I also really liked Abbey’s corduroy dress but wonder if the length would be appropriate for women over 60?
Thank you. I think skirt length has to do with body type and personal preferences. 😊
How you really dressed for your day is my favorite part of the blog. I get great ideas there plus it’s fun to know how you spent your day.😊 I’m a nosy Parker. Haha.
The brown monochromatic outfit was smashing!!
Yes, I like you showing how you dressed for the week. Sometimes it gives me ideas on how to put an outfit together different than I thought of myself. I don’t always think I would wear something I see you wearing, but most of the time it gives me fresh ideas. Glad you had a wonderful Anniversary and Christmas with your family.
Do you think you look tired because you are wearing so many warm colors in those outfits? The cool brown in the last outfit looks great! I know you say your coloring is neutral but I always think you look better in cool colors!!
I agree with Barbara!
I really enjoy the dress for my day and real life outfits
Honestly I wouldn’t change a thing
Such a great pic of you and Abbey too!
The real life outfits are my favorites and I’m disappointed when you don’t do them. Happy Anniversary!
I would like to keep seeing what you wore posts. It gives us good ideas.
Oh yes, please continue your What I Wore posts—we love seeing real life examples!!!!
Happy New Year Kay!
So happy for you that you were able to spend such a great Christmas with your family, plus manage to get away for your anniversary. And congratulations on 38 years of marriage, no small feat!
In the coming year, I’d love to live vicariously with you as you unbox your “hauls!” I loved it when you did the one prior to Christmas. It’s fun to see what you receive versus what you model. And I do enjoy seeing your Wednesday posts and an occasional weekly summary post. I imagine you’d like to post a bit less with more impact? But I love seeing all of your posts, truth be told.
Joy
Ha! I guess I’m the odd man out here about the weekly posts of what you wore. I think you need to do what you feel is best for you. The fact that you asked makes me wonder if it’s something you felt you wanted to maybe change up?
Perhaps instead of weekly posts do an end of the month post of my top 10 favorite outfits I wore this month, whether casual or dressy.
And if you find you miss doing the weekly, you can always go back.
Although I enjoy them and they give me inspiration, all your posts do that anyway.
Nothing wrong with switching it up and if it doesn’t work for you, you can always go back.
Hi Kay, Happy New Year! Yes please continue the “how I really dressed for my day” posts. I look forward to them each week!
Hi Kay, I really enjoy seeing which outfits you wore in the week and why you wore them. It is interesting and inspirational. This week I particularly love your outfit for the cinema and the monochromatic brown outfit for your anniversary getaway.
Dear Kay, a very happy new year to you and your dear ones! I love to see what you wore, it gives me fresh ideas, even though I sometimes have to adjust them to European ways (here, you simply don’t wear open hems when you’re over 20 and want to look pulled together :-)) I liked your monochromatic outfit especially!
Would you please give me more informations on Dressed in Grace?
All the best, Ulrike
Just curious but what is an open hem?
Colette, what I mean is jeans with a cut and not sewn hemline.
I think she means the unfinished hemline. These are still on trend, although not as fashion forward as they were a couple of years ago. I still find them to be a nice alternative to having jeans hemmed, but not my preferred hemline.
Kay, I am interested in your upcoming
bible study
Yes, please! I enjoy seeing your daily outfits. Honestly, Kay, I look forward to each and every one of your posts. Great content. Thanks for what you do. Happy New Year!
I enjoy your OOTD posts, I get such great inspiration from them. I love your monochromatic brown outfit and would wear it in a heartbeat. I too am starting an annual cycle of Bible reading, but I’m starting with the NT. That said, I never really noticed what you pointed out about Gen 1 in today’s BFMD. That’s some good food for thought. I could use to slow down a bit myself, and yes, do some healthy life pruning as well.
Happy Anniversary! And yes, please keep the How I Really Dressed for My Day posts. They are my favorite posts. It’s inspiring and encouraging for me to make an effort, even if I’m going to be home all day.
It is good that you are taking time to rest and recharge, Kay! It benefits us all! Seeing what you wore is always one of my favorites!
Your daily outfit posts are my favorites! I appreciate your taking time to do them and hope you can continue. THANK YOU and Happy 2026
Hi Kay,
Yes, I love seeing your real-life outfits, they are similar to the things that I wear. Please keep these kinds of posts coming.
I love your How I Dressed for My Day. I like to see what you wear in real life.
I like to see how you really dressed very much and why you wore what you did.
Hi Kay & Happy New Year! In reply to your request re: your feature showing what you really wore for the week, I think it’s a Great idea that you show us! I look forward to it & enjoy seeing how you put together outfits, which then inspires me re: color matchups or using a scarf & accessories. So Thanks For All You Do & Thanks for asking re: showing your viewers the actual outfits you wear as well!
I love “what I wore”! What I would like to see is more hair, makeup and skin care content please. Happy New Year!
Yes, Please continue the “How I Really Dressed for My Day”. I enjoy thes, as it helps me to discern what works for everyday, and what might not work for me.
Kay, I LOVE your “how I really dressed” posts and look forward to them every week. I am very disappointed when you don’t post one! I like the day it’s on because it helps me plan out my outfits for the coming week. But that said, ANY day you decide is fine as long as you don’t stop them! I get great outfit ideas and I appreciate that. I enjoy all your posts and videos! Thank you for all you do for us more “mature” ladies. You help to keep us in the game, so to speak, cuz some days it ain’t easy! LOL Happy New Year and belated Happy Anniversary. You and James seem to have such a great marriage!
I know I personally love these posts. But then again all your content is good
Hi Kay
My favourite part of your website is the ‘what I really wore’ section. It is great that you explain why and where you wore something. I loved the all brown column, really smart. Keep up the good work.
thanks for letting me know. I will be trying to do those weekly again this year. However, some weeks – like this one – things just don’t work out. I forgot to take photos a couple of days and today I’ve been recording videos and in and out of outfits. Ha! So this Friday I’ll have to do something different.
I love seeing how you “really dress” for your day. My goal this year is to have a few more elevated, but daily outfits for lunch/dinner out, etc.
Regarding your comments on Genesis 1, I have seen a trend on Instagram with the end of last year and the beginning of this year. I feel that more of us are trying to slow down a little (or a lot). I think we all want to savor those daily moments more. I attended the funeral this morning of a friend, my age. The pastor’s emphasis was on how much she enjoyed life and made the little moments more special. Her friends, husband, children, and grandchildren were the benefactors of that. This, too, is an encouragement to us to be grateful for and enjoy the little things.
Love your blog.
Thanks for sharing about your friend, Debbie. I’m so sorry for you loss. Indeed, I do think there has been a bit of a cultural shift towards slowing down, enjoying the moments and unplugging a little.
I love these “How I dressed for.my day” posts! I enjoy seeing what you actually wore and the event or activities for which you chose the outfits. I hope you keep doing them. Happy New Year, Kay!
What you actually wore is my favorite post! I am interested in your bible study on Sundays at 4:00pm YouTube. if I may have more information on that I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you and have a blessed year! Joan
Just catching up on your blog as I was gone 6 days over the New Year for a late Christmas with my kids. First, I so get the exhaustion after all the kids and grands leave. It was nice to have the year off hosting, although I still came home tired. lol Grandkids have so much energy.
Yes, please continue the post on what you really wore for a week. Love them. Love your brown mono outfit you did. Happy Anniversary!!!! Love the BFMD. Last year my Word for the year was intentional and I hope to continue that into 2026. I too am learning to slow down especially at my age of 64 and enjoy the freedom it gives at this age.
I am new here, but I love this post on what you really wore during your week. I don’t care what day you post it during the week, but please keep doing it. Also, I am 64 yo and don’t wear make-up or do any skin care routine. Oh my! I don’t know really where to start, but I trust you. Any videos showing you doing your skin care or make-up would be most appreciated by me. Unfortunately, my coloring is quite different from yours, so any colors you do won’t work on me. I wish I matched you as I would just copy what you do, but I’m a ‘winter’ with grey/silver hair and darker skin.
I am sooo appreciative of anything you share b/c I trust you. Many, many thanks!
Nice to meet you, Susan. I’ll be sharing skincare and favorite makeup next week. And I do have a couple of videos about makeup. Check them out here: Beauty
