How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Happy Friday! The temperatures have cooled significantly here in Cincinnati, so it finally looks and feels like autumn. For the past couple of weeks I’ve finally enjoyed wearing the fall outfits I’ve been posting about for months now. Let’s see how I really dressed for my day this past week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

How I Really Dressed for My Day October 31 – November 6, 2025

James has been out of town this week, so I’ve been living the single life. He used to travel a lot when he was pastoring fulltime. But for the past seven years or so I’ve rarely stayed home alone. So I was a little curious about how it would go. I’ve fared pretty well, but I’m anxious to see him this weekend.

shirt // jeans c/o // embroidered bandana // booties // belt // earrings

Still, I’ve gotten dressed for my day every day. While I may enjoy the rare day in my pajamas, I’d much prefer at least put on some pretty loungewear or athleisurewear for the day. And I’m definitely more productive when I put a little effort into my appearance. The outfit above is the last one I wore before James left. I recorded next Wednesday’s video in that outfit and then we went out to dinner.

The Stevie straight leg jeans are definitely new favorites. They’re a classic straight leg and I’m wearing the 31″ inseam. I did size up as I usually do in premium denim and the fit is perfect. I topped them with a soft camel colored corduroy shirt (I don’t think my color is available this year) because I needed a not-so-busy-or-colorful background for the video we shot. (You’ll see why on Wednesday!) I featured that embroidered bandana in the video. I’m seeing a lot of triangle scarves tied at the neck this way, and I’m loving it. I also ordered this one and this one. And I got this longer scarf, too. Oh, and I got this one! That one may actually be my favorite.

Saturday is when James left, and I just settled in for a day of work around the house. I had ordered both Spanx AirEssentials in the new Truffle Brown, but I’d gotten the pants in the wrong size. (I size up to a large in the pants and wear a medium in the top.) So I need to return the pants, and I decided to just wear the brown half zip pullover with the black pants. These are great for travel, too, and amazingly comfortable.

dress c/o // vest c/o // boots c/o (use code KAYBOOTS for $50 off your first pair of Ally boots or booties – use their size guide for the best results) // purse // belt // earrings // necklace c/o

Sunday was brisk and sunny. I decided to wear a pretty autumnal dress to church. This Spartina 449 dress was recently up to 30% off in their buy more save more event. But it’s back to full price now. Be sure to follow me on Instagram and get my email newsletter to keep up with these offers. I try to share those so readers can take advantage of price drops and special deals. Because it was chilly, I added my dark brown vest just for going in and out. I got so many compliments on this outfit at the mall, where I had to run a few errands after church.

turtleneck sweater // straight leg corduroy jeans c/o // belt // jacket c/o // similar booties // earrings

Monday I mostly worked from home, but I did get out to run a couple of errands. I wanted to be comfortable, but look and feel smart. I had a lot of work to do! This bright blue turtleneck sweater and straight leg corduroy jeans were the ticket. I wore my Chelsea boots (similar) and black puffer jacket when I went out. I think this combination looks so simple and chic.

By the way, are Chelsea boots in style? I get that question a lot lately. The answer is two part. Chelsea boots are classics, so you can always wear them. But they’re not current trending. So the key is to wear them in a modern way. I think I achieved that here. What do you think?

Fair Isle cardigan // wide leg jeans and in petite sizes // similar grey t-shirt // booties // bag (very similar less expensive) // necklace // earrings

Tuesday I got out for a couple of appointments and then I had some meetings online. Funny! You can definitely tell I washed my hair that morning and had time for it to dry properly. I’ve been using this texturizing air dry mousse (also at Sephora) with great results. The trick is letting it dry completely without touching it.

I had just gotten in this pretty, chunky Fair Isle cardigan and decided to wear it that day with my black wide leg jeans (and in petite sizes) and a grey t-shirt. I finished the look with my Vince booties. I was so surprised when a young man in his 20s told me he loved my outfit that day. Cool!

jacket // tee (similar tee) // joggers // sneakers // pendant necklace

Wednesday I stayed home and worked. Honestly, I began feeling a little blue about this time. I’d been staying so busy and intentionally keeping to my usual schedule in James’ absence. But about midweek I began to feel quite lonely. I might have spent a good chunk of that day sitting on the sofa and watching a silly Christmas movie… Hmm. Anyhow I opted for these new dark brown joggers with a soft blue tee (similar tee) and the coordinating full zip front sweatshirt. They are super comfortable, but I have to warn you that the joggers run rather large. So I’ll probably just be wearing these at home.

cardigan sweater // pants // booties // purse // necklace // earrings

And that brings us to yesterday. I rallied a little this day because I needed to be at the dentist office for a cleaning at ten. I had received this argyle cardigan sweater the day before and I was anxious to style it monochromatically, especially since yesterday’s blog post was on monochromatic outfit tips. So I paired it with my Varley corduroy pants in a creamy, honey-like color called Stucco.

Before I let you go, let me tell you about that bag. You may notice that it looks very much like my black Coach bag from Tuesday’s outfit. Indeed it is strikingly similar. But it costs a fraction (about 81% less, to be exact!) of the price of the Coach Rogue bag. It does come in black, too. The 100% top-grain Italian leather is supple and beautiful, and it is lined with suede, just like the Coach bag. I love this purse (either one) because it has ample compartments and three different sets of straps, so you can carry it to your liking.

Thanks so much for stopping in! Have a great weekend.

Blessed for My Day

As we go through our day and bump shoulders with friends and acquaintances, scroll through social media, thumb through a magazine or newspaper and drive down the highways, we can easily get so entangled in this world that we lose sight of the bigger picture. In my quiet time this morning I read Hebrews chapter three, and I was especially drawn in by Dr. Stanley’s devotional on the first verse. There he reminded us how to stay true to our higher calling and who we are in Christ.

Put quite simply, we need to remember that we are “holy”: set apart and precious to God. That means our significance comes from who we are to God in Christ and nothing else. Secondly we have a “heavenly calling;” thus, this is not our home. We must move through this day with the mindset that we are but visitors here. And finally, we are encouraged to “consider Jesus.” If we focus on the world, we become worldly. But if we’ll consider Jesus, who shows us God’s character and now represents us to the Father, throughout the day, we’ll become more like Him instead.

Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession… ~ Hebrews 3:1

xoxo, Kay

  1. I see you wore 2 cardigans this week and they look really nice. Not frumpy at all. I really like the Fair Isle sweater. Like that pattern and like the color. The only trouble is that it has a lot of wool. I cannot wear wool next to my skin as I am allergic, but I see you wore a tee under it. I was wondering if I wore a turtleneck with it if it would be itchy and scratchy to my skin? Is it itchy to you? I know you miss James, and I can see where watching a Hallmark movie would make you feel better. lol I also like the Great American Family channel, the best. It has movie that are more family oriented and Christian feel. Do you watch movies from his channel? Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Sherry, I didn’t feel like the sweater was itchy. My skin can be pretty sensitive, too, especially as I age. but I felt good in it that day. Yes, I actually prefer the Great American Family channel at this point. I even think the movies are significantly better than what Hallmark is producing these days.

      1. I agree….. Great American Family channel is better. They aren’t compromising on what marriage is. I am so glad Candace Cameron Bure’ stuck to her beliefs and left Hallmark and took some with her.

  2. You look fabulous in all of the outfits. I love cardigans because I get cold easy! I recently bought some wide leg gray jeans….could you do a post on what I can wear with them? If you could show a variety of ways with tops, sweaters, etc. Thank you!

  3. LOVED the BFMD. This theme keeps coming up. My husband and I just finished listening to the October series on Radio by David Jeremiah…..The Promise of Heaven, It was so good. I ordered the book to have as a reference. You can listen to the series in the archives at davidjeremiah.org. David said he didn’t write the book or do the sermons to make us smarter on Heaven, but to take more people with us. After the series, my mind was so heavenly. 🙂 He truly is what matters and our identity is IN HIM. Thank you for sharing your devotions. I love it. I’m sorry you got lonely. I am the same way when my husband is gone. I do okay and enjoy my alone time, but after awhile I really miss him. I can’t imagine life without him. I’m blessed as I know you are too. Its okay to have a “sit on the couch and watch Christmas movies day.” 🙂 I like your daily outfits. I have been dressing pretty casual over here in the NW Oregon rain.

  4. PS I hadn’t seen the Singles Day saying or sales. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I think there is a day for everything these days.

  5. Very nice looks – love that gray Fair Isle sweater in particular, but I’m trying not to have so much gray and black in my winter wardrobe as it starts to get depressing by January or February so this year I am really working to get some other colors into my scheme! Of course, I still bought a gray sweater two weeks ago…well, what can I say?!? I think Singles Day is a little bit of a made-up holiday to promote shopping, but I also know sometimes single people can feel the world discounts those who are not in a relationship, or even thinks there must be “something wrong” with someone who has not married. As long as I’m reasonably sure my husband will be back, I don’t mind when he goes away – I don’t have to worry about what’s for dinner, and I do things like pull everything out of my closet or another room to deep clean it, a process that takes more than one day and which he does not enjoy being around, or I go shopping and enjoy knowing I don’t need to be home to make dinner!

  6. Dear Kay, Since we are pretty much the same size, did you order a medium in the Fair Isle Cardigan from J Crew? I love it. Also, do you know if Bombas is having a sale soon or if you will have a code? I have a long list! 😳 Thank you! Chris

    1. I’m wearing the small in the sweater and that is what I would go with unless I wanted to layer something like a turtleneck underneath. Then I might get a medium. Yes! I do have a code for Bombas. Use code DRESSED20 for 20% off. You can actually find many of my coupon codes through a link in the top menu. I don’t have all of them there because some come and go. And I never mind you asking. 🤗
