Hello and welcome to Dressed for My Day. We usually focus on fashion for women over 50 here. But today I’m teaming up with my 29-year-old daughter Abigail to share two casual outfits for women of all ages from one of our favorite brands, J.Crew.
In fact, Abigail’s birthday was yesterday. She’s such a treasure to our family. I was glad she could join me for this photo shoot when she and Andrew were visiting last month. And I’ll see her in a few days to take her out for breakfast for her birthday celebration.
But on this day we were both sporting casual outfits from J.Crew. Today’s post is not sponsored, by the way. I always tell you (by law) when a post is sponsored. We just both happen to love shopping J.Crew.
As with any store I shop, there are certainly some things at J.Crew that I would consider a little too youthful for me. But I appreciate that they carry very classic, traditional clothing with a modern twist. So they keep us current without sacrificing that timeless quality many of us over 50 women enjoy wearing.
On this day Abigail and I were both sporting jeans from J.Crew, but with very different vibes. Abby’s wearing the full-length demi-boot jean in Kamari wash. These jeans are 100% cotton, so they have no stretch. But for a similar look with more stretch, you might consider the similar high-rise slim demi-boot jean in Surf wash, which have much more stretch. Keep in mind that Abigail and I both are 5’8″, so these full-length demi-boot jeans do hit her right at the ankle. She says they run true to size.
My jeans have a more relaxed silhouette, but not much more stretch. They’re 99% cotton and only 1% elastane. These high-rise ’90s classic straight-fit jeans in Hanger wash fit me true to size or maybe even a little large. I’m wearing a 29 and I find myself wearing size 30 in most jeans these days. I would opt for these jeans when I’m okay with a very relaxed, casual look.
At this time of year as the weather fluctuates, it’s smart to wear tops you can layer. I’m wearing my collared cotton beach sweater. This lightweight sweater fits true to size and comes in some other nice colors, too.
Abigail is wearing the broken-in jersey flower pocket t-shirt in her usual size. After we took these photos I came home and ordered one for myself, too. It is so cute and great for wearing with a utility jacket as the days cool.
We both love our retro New Balance sneakers from J.Crew. They’re sporty and comfortable. We both find them to run true to size. Mine also come in navy. Abigail’s are so cute, too, and they are available in more sizes.
I think Abigail’s earrings are no longer available, but I’m wearing these Kendra Scott hoops and a multi strand necklace and bracelet from Kohl’s. Blessed for My Day
When I hear bad news layered upon more bad news I sometimes grow fretful and downcast. My heart hurts and my mind grows anxious. Circumstances can be troubling, and the more we examine the world around us the less peace we feel in our hearts.
But Jesus knew this would be the case. As He prepared His disciples for His departure, he reminded them that life in this world would indeed be troubling. Anxiety and fear are the default emotions. But Jesus has left us His peace. This is not a worldly peace. It is not based on the appearance of harmony or the absence of hard things. Jesus’ peace is rooted in the deeper understanding that He will return, that He has equipped us with the Holy Spirit and that the Father is still in control. It is also tied to the knowledge that one day there will be no more suffering or pain. Let’s not allow our hearts to be troubled or afraid. Instead, let’s rest in the peace of God.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. ~ John 14:27
I like both of your outfits! The last picture is my favorite! It definitely makes me smile. Is your son also tall? It sounds like you and James are heading to GA later this week. I sure hope that our current forecast for later this week does not apply to the metro Atlanta area because it’s a really wet one.
Hi Ginger, Thank you. We’re heading on through to Florida, but it looks like we’ll have rain the whole time we’re there. It’s okay. A change of scenery will be nice anyhow.

It is going to be in the 80’s the next 3 days, so will not be wearing until cools off a little.

Love the post, seeing you and Abigail together is so nice! She’s so pretty! I noticed Abigail’s jeans have a crease in them – and that’s how they are shown on the JCrew site. Does the crease stay in after washing? I’m wondering because I recall years ago that I used to iron a crease in my flare jeans – just wondering if that is coming back, perhaps?
I’m not really sure if it stays in or not. I’d have to check with her.
