Welcome to Dressed for My Day. During these last two weeks of August I’ve been getting dressed for my day in transitional outfits, as I’ve been testing things out. I’ve been taking the new silhouettes of jeans, button up shirts and the color brown for a test ride. Ha! So my recent end of summer daily outfits definitely have a bit of a fall vibe to them.

End of Summer Daily Outfits

I don’t always take a photo of my daily outfits, but I sure do try to remember. It’s a great way to catalog your personal style so you can see how it is evolving…or not. For now I’m sharing these daily outfits every other Friday, but you’ll notice that I don’t have fourteen of them. Ah well. It is what it is! Let’s see what I do have.

Remember, let’s assume everything runs true to size unless I tell you otherwise. Of course, if you want to double check with me before ordering, I’ll gladly respond to your comment or email.

I wore shorts so infrequently this summer. I just operate better at my desk, which is where I spend most of my time, if I’m dressed a little more professionally. So this was undoubtedly a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Shorts and a Tee

I pulled out my Teva sandals because I liked how they paired nicely with my flower pocket tee. Fun! They’re no longer available in this color combo (that I can find), but they have so many others to choose from. And right now they’re up to 40% off.

I’m providing shopping widgets for each outfit. Some items I’m showing may no longer be available. But anything that is available (or a substitute if possible) will be in the shopping widgets.

I probably wore this athleisure look on a Tuesday. That’s when I edit videos and I like to wear something that allows me to get outside for occasional walks throughout the day, keeping the blood pumping.

Athleta Pants and Tee

I always forget how much I enjoy wearing these Athleta Brooklyn ankle pants until I put them on. So comfy, but also nice looking. Here I just paired them with a white motion seamless tee, also from Athleta and my Rothy’s.

For another more polished work from home outfit I wore this blue and brown print shirt from J.McLaughlin and darker wash jeans. These are the Hustler high waist ankle fray hem jeans by Mother. I’m really liking Mother jeans these days. This made-in-America brand fits everyone beautifully. These are not on sale, but there are a lot of Mother jeans marked down significantly at Nordstrom right now. If you’ve been considering trying premium denim, this is a great brand to try because the reviews are great across the board. I generally size up to a 30 in these.

Jeans and a Print Shirt

I added my chunky hammered link necklace and wore my Vince Camuto slides that day.

When we went out for James’ birthday dinner that night I wore the same blue and brown print shirt from J.McLaughlin, but styled it as I did in Monday’s post. The photo below is from that blog post, but that’s the exact outfit I wore to his birthday dinner.

The Print Button-Up Shirt

I just changed into the brown slim knit ankle pants and blue mules. Both the pants and the mules (available in other colors, too) are marked down 40%, by the way. These are definitely some favorite purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I’m wearing my usual size 9.5 in the mules, but some people size up in these. And I also chose to get my usual size medium in the Eileen Fisher slim knit ankle pants, even though they are pretty roomy on me. (They often suggest sizing down in EF; I do in tops, but not in bottoms usually.)

Those are my Kay earrings from Rachelyn Jewelry (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off) in the photo above, by the way. They won’t appear in the shopping widget below.

I know these next photos were taken on Sunday. I do indeed remember that I wore the brown Astrid wide leg chinos from J.Crew that day. I wore them with my oatmeal colored ribbed stretch polo shirt that morning (no longer available).

Brown Astrid chinos

And then I switched into my flower pocket tee and sneakers for the afternoon and evening. I shot a little Instagram reel that afternoon showing about six or seven ways to wear them, including these two outfits.

Hahaha! It looks like I put those brown Astrid wide leg chinos on again either the next day or maybe the next. Here I’m wearing them with a rosy pink sleeveless top by Cloth & Stone, known for their extremely soft fabrics. This sleeveless top has definitely been a favorite this summer and it’s marked down finally at Evereve. I’ve worn it under my white and beige linen blazers a lot.

My jewelry is also from Evereve, now that I think about it. The necklace appears to be sold out, but the earrings are available and marked down also. In fact, Evereve is having a big Labor Day weekend sale and everything is marked down at least a little bit (with a few brand exclusions). Evereve carries very youthful, modern iterations of classic pieces. It’s one of the stores that I think does a great job of balancing classic and contemporary. They can be a little pricey, so it’s smart to shop them during these rare sales.

I think this next photo is out of order because I remember wearing this to Nordstrom for a shopping appointment with my stylist. I intentionally wore the Veronica Beard Miller Dickey jacket because I wanted to try on blouses and camisoles under it. I’m showing a couple of more economical alternatives to the Veronica Beard Miller in the shopping widget below. This is one of the most comfortable blazers I’ve ever put on, and I can’t wait to wear one of my dickeys with it. I guess I should have done that that day.

Black Jeans and Camel Blazer

Anyhow, I love how this camel blazer works with black jeans (marked down 40%) and a white tee (marked down). Those Vince Camuto slides just happen to be very close to the same shade of camel as my jacket, but I think black shoes would work nicely here, too. In fact, they might look better. The Vince Camuto slides and the Kyra flat mules both come in black, so either of those would work nicely here.

Boy, so much of what I’m sharing today happens to be marked down for Labor Day. In fact, some of these Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases are marked down lower than I paid for them. Yep, my black Coach shoulder bag above is also marked down 40%. It also comes in a beautiful taupe. I’ve seen the bag and I’d say it’s a creamy light camel. Very lovely. And it comes in washed chambray blue.

Here’s another work from home outfit. I know it looks like I was going somewhere, but I was just experimenting with wearing a white button up shirt and flare leg jeans. I’m shooting a video this weekend about what shoes to wear with what pants and jean silhouettes and lengths. So I’m trying to figure all that out for myself first.

Work from Home

I’d ordered these Naturalizer mules (also at Nordstrom) and wanted to try them with something. They’ve turned out to be a great shoe for several lengths of jeans, but I especially like them with these Paige Laurel Canyon flare leg jeans. Unfortunately these jeans are one of the few purchases I made from the #NSale that are not marked down. The Naturalizer mules are very comfortable, by the way.

I’m wearing my Frank & Eileen Joedy shirt above. It’s pricey, but it’s a great shirt. On the thinner side, but I like that. And I did reorder and get my size medium, which fits perfectly. That shirt isn’t on sale, but they have the Joedy in a nice blue stripe marked down 40%.

And then I do have enough wits about me to know that this was yesterday. Ha! I had several errands to run – nail appointment, shopping at Kohl’s for a fun collaboration coming up, etc. – so I wore my grey flare leg jeans and my oatmeal colored ribbed top. Again, this top sold out long ago, but I sure do love the way these light grey jeans work with this color. Don’t you? I think this is such a nice summer to fall transition look.

Grey Jeans and Beige top

I was a little stumped on the shoes at first because I needed a bit of a heel and my choices are limited. But the camel colored slides worked perfectly with this color combination. In fact, I thinking wearing the camel heels and carrying my camel and black trimmed shoulder bag perfectly tied together the grey and oatmeal beige. Unfortunately that bag is now only available in black.

After seeing an influencer I follow style grey jeans for fall, I got a bee in my bonnet about finding some. I have a few more straight leg options I’m considering. The final option is supposed to come in today. But I know for certain I’m keeping these Katie high waist flares by Fidelity (a made in America brand). They are THE most comfortable jeans I own right now. And I love how the grey wash is light and artfully faded, but not busy. I’m not sure this photo does them justice. I’ll undoubtedly include them in next Wednesday’s video.

One more thing. I wanted to point out my jewelry in that outfit. I mixed silver and gold because I think that’s a smart choice when wearing grey and camel or beige. My necklace has both silver and gold, my earrings are silver and I wore a silver and gold Nordgreen watch band, but I forgot to put it back on after my manicure.

Well that’s a wrap! Thanks so much for stopping in. I hope you have a great Friday.

Spread the love

Blessed for My Day

Sometimes if I spend too much time watching the news or reading up on current events, I can grow discouraged. Honestly, that’s why I don’t do a lot of either. Unfortunately that sometimes results in me being ill informed. So I do try to take my head out of the sand at least occasionally to keep up with things. But when I take in the news of the world around me, I begin to feel like God is sorely missing from our culture. I wonder where He is in all the mayhem.

That’s why it is so important to step away from it all occasionally and spend time in nature. Whether James and I are traipsing through the nearby nature center, driving through the countryside or just sitting on our back porch and enjoying the setting of the sun, I gain a bit of perspective and calm as I take in the world God created for His pleasure and ours. That’s also when I’m reminded that God is still active in our world. Even when I can’t hear Him for all the noise or see Him in the actions of angry people, I know He is on His throne and He is still in control. I also am reminded that God is a God of beauty, order, peace and love. Do you need to step outside a little this weekend? It might do your soul good.

The earth, O Lord, is full of your steadfast love; teach me your statutes! ~ Psalm 119:64

    1. Hard to say for sure. But they’re definitely worth trying on and maybe pinning up the hemline to see. And yes, since they already have a raw edge you could just cut them off and leave unhemmed.

  1. I like what you wore recently. Like you, I am wearing more brown this fall/winter than I have in the past. I am beyond ready for cooler temps and getting my closet changed over. With the items I’ve purchased that I love, the majority of what I have packed away will probably be donated. Having a culled down closet is my big desire. Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. May God continually bless you and Jim, Kay! You make such a difference on so many levels and I thank God for you, your ministry and fashion sense!!! Love Ya!!!

  3. Love your latest outfits! Thanks for the fall inspiration! I hadn’t thought about it but must agree about wearing silver and gold jewelry with khakis and grays. What a great insight! I bought the same Vince Camuto slides last year and LOVE them. Like, you, I find that they go with many outfits. I wear them often, and they are so soft and comfortable. And I did grab that All Saints bag in black at the NSale. I love the way you incorporate what you recommend and circle back to it. Very helpful! I’m full of ideas. 🙂
