During the spring and summer I really lean into lightweight, everyday dresses as I get dressed for my day. They’re just so easy to wear, accessorize and even pack for vacations. Today I’m sharing how I’ve accessorized a pretty, new, everyday dress from Avara, where you’ll find so many budget friendly dresses for spring and summer. UPDATE (4/25/25): Avara just generously gave our community a coupon code for savings! Use code KAY15 at checkout for 15% off.

Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I just began shopping Avara earlier this spring. But, after receiving my first order, I quickly developed an appreciation for this woman-founded, woman-run, American, small business. So when they recently sent me a few dresses to share with you, I couldn’t wait. Unfortunately I only had time to get photos of one of the dresses in our last photo shoot. But I’ll share more soon. And everything I received ran true to size and turned out to be a beautiful dress for spring and summer.

Most of the dresses that I’m sharing in my “shopping boutique” from Avara below are under $100. And I’ve found the quality to be so nice.

This Sammy dress is constructed in a 65% polyester and 35% cotton fabric that feels like a soft seersucker. It’s very lightweight and cool. I love the tiered skirt and collared v-neckline. The dress comes with a same-fabric belt, but I removed it and wore a leather belt instead. I found the Sammy dress to run true to size; I’m wearing a medium. But there is a comment on the website about it running small in the chest. I’m only a B cup, so if you are larger up top you may want to size up in this feminine office-ready dress.

If you frequent Dressed for My Day, you know that I love wearing cognac accessories to elevate an outfit. I especially love cognac with black and white outfits, but also blue and white.

And this time of year I especially enjoy carrying straw or raffia bags to complete my outfits. This envelop clutch from Tuckernuck has turned into a fast favorite I’ll undoubtedly carry for years. I used it Easter Sunday, in fact.

I would definitely carry this easy-breezy Sammy dress on vacation and wear it with sneakers for walking tours. I’d pair it with flat sandals for lunch with friends or even just to run errands on a warm day. For work you could wear this dress with closed toe slingbacks (use code SF-KAY-15 for 15% off). And I’d wear it just as I’ve styled it here with heeled sandals and a clutch for church or a casual date.

Blessed for My Day

We are so quick to judge, aren’t we? Even if we intend to refrain from judging other people’s actions, words or choices, human nature kicks in and prompts us to see anything that another person does differently from us as bad or wrong. We tend to judge other people’s lives from the vantage point of our own limited experience and knowledge.

But the Bible teaches us that each person will give an account for their actions, words and choices, not to us, but to God. Whenever the desire to judge rises up within me, I remind myself of the grace that God has shown me. Now is the age of grace. There will indeed be a day of judgment. But I will not be the judge on that day either. Instead, I will be rejoicing in God’s grace shown to me through Jesus Christ. My mission now is not to judge, but to help others discover that same life-giving grace.

So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let’s not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this: not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s or sister’s way.  ~ Romans 14:12-13

  1. A lovely and versatile dress. I haven’t yet tried Avara but they do have some pretty things. It’s always good to try a new retailer.

  2. Thank you for introducing Avara to us. I just took a look at their website and they have fair prices and a nice variety of items. I don’t know how you were able to get anything done with workers making noise in your house yesterday!

  3. Hi Kay.

This dress looks great on you! I am on the site now. Such pretty dresses. Sweaters too.

Thanks for sharing these budget friendly cute dresses for the Carolina summer.

  4. This is such a pretty dress for spring/summer. Thanks for the warning about bust size, as that can be a frequent problem for me. I sometimes actually run a stitch up the front and slip a top over my head.

  5. I continue to enjoy your channel on YouTube! Living in Colorado, Spring is slowly starting to arrive. I love seeing the dresses you are sharing. I am so ready to be in a summer dress on a nice warm day! Come on Spring! Thanks for all the hard work you do to help us all be looking our best at every age!

  6. Avara has some really nice clothes at an affordable price point. Love the dress you are wearing!

  7. Hey Kay. Love all these pretty dresses. As I get older, I prefer to wear dresses in the spring and summer instead of shorts, especially in public! Such a wide selection on the Avara site!

  8. Kay, the dress with your accessories is so pretty. I wear dresses on a daily basis more in the spring and summer because they are cool. Thank you for introducing Avara. I’ve not tried them yet.

  9. Hi Kay, thank you for featuring dresses on today’s blog. I find them to be the most effortless thing to wear when I am struggling with what to wear. Dresses are especially flattering my pear shaped silhouette. I’ll take a look at this brand, especially since it’s made in the USA. Blessings and congratulations on the arrival of your assistant’s new baby!

    1. Hi Cynthia. I’m so glad you like the dress post. But I thought I should clarify that Avara dresses are not necessarily made in the USA. They are simply a U.S. based company.

  10. You look lovely in the dress and I like the information about accessories and shoes! Thank you for the BFMD- none of us are perfect and we have to remember that….give it all to God because he is in control

  11. Beautiful dress on you and so many more to choose from!
I’m going to check them out and see of they carry petites.
    Have a lovely day! 🌸
P.S. love your spring flowers in the photos. 💐

  12. My toes are not pretty for many reasons. What do you recommend for summer “sandal” that hides my toes vs scrappy sandals? I’d love to be stylish, but summer sandals that show my toes do not help my style at all. I also must wear a wide width.

    1. The good news is that slingbacks continue to be in style, and they give you that sandal look without exposing the toes. Something like this slingback, maybe in the gold or warm white would look very summery and fresh. Or you could do this woven ballet-inspired flat with the capped toe. Again, it gives you the feel and look of a sandal, but conceals the toes. There are lots of other similar options out there, so keep your eyes open for textured, woven shoes that expose some of the foot, but not the toes. Both of those come in wide sizes.

  13. I love all the Avara dresses and especially the one on you and the way you styled it. Bravo! Appreciate your good devo…we all need that and i appreciate the way you always bring it back to God’s Word!
