We’re wrapping up our Fall Trends Week 2024 today with a look at some of the most prevailing trends in accessories. I love incorporating trends into my wardrobe through accessories because they are generally less expensive and/or you can get more wear out of them, mixing them into a variety of outfits. So even if, say, you invest in a trending handbag or piece of jewelry, you can get a lower cost per wear by using it frequently. Let’s check out a few of the accessory trends for fall 2024.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
Of course there are SO MANY trends I could share here. But I’ve selected a few that I feel will resonate most with my readers and that are great for the more mature set.
Feminine Footwear
We’re seeing a lot of masculine touches in clothing these days. Think suit vest, trousers, blazers and button-up shirts. So it’s nice to add a little femininity into our outfits with beautiful footwear. This year you can expect to see lovely, feminine touches in footwear such as slender straps, bows, jewels and other ornamentation. But we’re also seeing just distinctly feminine designs, such as Mary Jane straps, kitten heels, slingbacks, pointy toes and ballet flats.

During the summer we also saw a lot of shoes with pearl adornment, so I expect to see that flourish reappear also. I’ve gathered some great examples of feminine footwear in a shopping widget below, as I have for each accessory trend. Use it for inspiration or shop the items by clicking on them.
Touch of Red
I’m so excited about the trend of adding just a touch of red to your outfit. My only challenge will be to not overdo it. Ha! But indeed, the idea is to add just a splash of this powerful color somewhere in your outfit. So it’s definitely time to add one or two red accessories to your wardrobe.

Think red shoes, handbags, belts or hats. But you could also wear a neck scarf or wrap that is predominantly red. I recently added this casual belt bag, this baseball cap and these red shoes to my wardrobe.
Belts
Belts are just on trend. Period. Perhaps because trousers and high waisted pants and jeans are trending, we’re wearing more belts. A belt can instantly define your waist, pull an outfit together and elevate it.

I recently added this belt to my wardrobe to wear with this denim dress, but I’ll be able to wear it with other dresses, too. When shopping for a belt you generally can just use the size guide provided on the website. And I almost always find that I wear the same size in belt as I do in pants or dresses and skirts.
Crescent Shaped Shoulder Bags
I’m seeing crescent shaped shoulder bags everywhere. They definitely are the “now” looking bag. And you’ll find them at all price points.

I recently purchased the crescent shape bag above, but I think I’m returning it. The bag just feels too oversize for me, but also I’m not sure I’m a fan of this shape. What about you? Don’t worry; I have another handbag trend below that I’m all in for.
Slouchy Shoulder Bags
Also looking very current are the slouchy shoulder bags. And while these bags may have a “slouchy feel and appearance,” they won’t necessarily slouch over when you put them down. I prefer to look for a bag with a structured bottom and preferably feet on the underneath. But it can still have that very casual, slouchy aesthetic.

Again, I think these bags are trending because other things are. The slouchy silhouette is a nice juxtaposition to all of the structure we have going on elsewhere, as in those pointy toe flats or heels, the buttoned up shirt and the belt. So if you wear a lot of structure elsewhere in your outfits, a slouchy shoulder bag could really pull your outfit together nicely.
Simple Elegant Statement Jewelry
I’ve mentioned several times in the past that fine jewelry is trending. And it is. If you have fine jewelry sitting in a jewelry box, pull it out and wear it. Yes, even for everyday. But for those of us who don’t have a lot of fine pieces, the next best thing is simple, elegant statement jewelry.

Look for pieces that look like the could be fine jewelry, but they aren’t. So select necklaces, earrings and bracelets that are simple but impactful, tasteful and elegant.

Blessed for My Day
I have a theory. While it can be handy to have so much information and up-to-date news at our fingertips, I believe it’s probably not how we were created to live. Just consider how much more information you have to digest every day in comparison to how much your grandparents sifted through on a normal day. We can quickly become overwhelmed by the happenings around the world, the new information available about diet and exercise and lifestyle, the glimpses into other peoples’ lives and the traffic we see ahead on our GPS app. Yes, our brains are wired to hold and deal with a lot of information. But at this pace? To this capacity? I don’t know. What do you think?
But meanwhile I do know this. More people than ever are dealing with anxiety. From the very young to the very old and all in between, people – including me, at times – are struggling with anxious thoughts and panicky feelings. What’s a gal to do? I’ve found that I must anchor my day by starting my morning with only one vital bit of information…that which I glean from a daily reading from the Bible. God’s Word settles me and grounds me for the day ahead. And when I do begin to feel anxious, I’ve trained myself to focus on His character and ways.
If I should say, “My foot has slipped,” Your faithfulness, Lord, will support me. When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comfort delights my soul. ~ Psalm 94:18-19

I love a pop of red! I have been doing it for years Since it’s my favorite color even when It wasn’t as popular. I’ve been looking for a red belt My old one wore out. Have fun today. Sounds like you will busy yet the next couple of days.
I sympathize with you – my husband is one year younger than I am and he always lets me know that, especially when it is my birthday! ha I have never liked red in my closet, but this year the red shoes from Naturalizer and the leopard oblong scarf from Talbots are looking good! I’m going to try them.
I hope you and your husband have a good birthday for him and enjoy seeing your son and daughter-in-law! God bless!
Loved your blessed for my day thoughts. Amen. I love red accessories. I added red sandals this Summer. I love red with light or dusty blue.
I am 5 months to the day older than my husband and he loves to kid me too. Have a good time with your son and daughter in love!
Lots of great styles. The slouchy bag from Banana Republic is nice. Enjoy your weekend with your family.
I think a wardrobe of classic clothing can be enhanced with the simple
addition of a trendy accessory.
Kay, thank you so much for these daily posts – not only the fashion advice but your pointing us to God’s Word daily, which is what we should be adorning ourselves with primarily! Have a wonderful weekend with your family and Happy Birthday to James!
Hi Kay, I’m liking most of the accessory trends, except belts (love them on other people, just not on me) and the current handbag styles. I like structured handbags, so the crescent and slouchy silhouettes just don’t do it for me. Love your BFMD, yes, we all can suffer from information overload and it makes people anxious. I intentionally limit my intake of newsfeeds, etc, because it is so easy to let it all burden our hearts.
Love today’s blessed for my day! What wonderful advice and I also believe we hAve way too much info to digest daily.
