I see evidence all around me that fall is on the way. And I’m not sad about it! It’s time think about how we’ll layer on the style as the temperatures cool and the days shorten. We’ll need fall outfit ideas for casual days, something fresh to wear for walks with friends, cute looks for fall classes and groups as well as Sunday best attire. I’ve got a chic fall outfit idea to share with you as well as new arrivals from Talbots.

Fall Outfit Idea from Talbots
I’ve shown a lot of jeans lately – and you’ll see more in our next two YouTube videos! So I wanted to share with you a non-jeans option today.

For casual or even elevated everyday looks I’ve noticed that drawstring pants are really trending this fall. We’ve been seeing an abundance of them since spring, and we’re going to see even more as the air chills. I think these pull-on corduroy pants with a drawstring waist are so sporty, comfortable and fun.

The ankle length pants are a 98% Cotton, 2% Spandex fabric, so they have a little stretch. They come in this indigo blue, as well as a burnt orange and almond buff (going fast!). You can get them in a full range of sizes, as well as petite and plus fits (indigo is not available in plus sizes – my bet is they sold out).

I topped the corduroy pants with a striking scallop crewneck sweater in port wine. This sweater is a loose crochet, so you might want to wear a cami or tank underneath, as I would have if it had been a little chillier. It has a lot of stretch in it. I’m wearing my TTS medium very comfortably. If you’re going to wear it as a pullover, as I am, I encourage you to keep the buttons fastened. They are very difficult to button once you have them unbuttoned. The sweater comes in ivory and black and is available in a full range of sizes in all fit profiles.

You’ll see me wear these deep burgundy Nappa leather loafers in Wednesday’s YouTube video as a “brown loafer.” This wine color is so deep and rich that it definitely reads like a dark chocolate brown when worn with other dark brown pieces. The horse bit loafers are so on trend, and these are extremely comfortable true to size. I’ll be wearing these A LOT.

I paired the deep burgundy Nappa leather loafers with the oxblood AllSaints leather hobo bag I got in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. They work together beautifully to accent the navy and port wine duo I’m wearing. Finally, I simply added a bracelet, necklace and diamond earrings to complete the look.

I love the way this fall outfit idea turned out. It’s one I’d wear for a day of shopping, out to lunch, to book club or Mahjong in early fall. And later you could add these socks in burgundy berry. Yes, that’s one of the benefits of loafers being so on trend: you can easily wear them with socks!
I’ve collected more items from Talbots’ newest arrivals to share with you below. These are some of my favorites. I have these pants arriving any day now! And I have this London Map Square Scarf ironed and ready to wear soon.

Blessed for My Day
At our ages, most of us have learned the value of good habits. And we know that poor habits are a silent thief, taking from us things that we do not miss until they are gone. Good habits are those rituals that we almost do by rote now, but that provide the stepping stones to success in a variety of areas of our lives, including physical fitness, financial security, relationship health, spiritual growth and professional development. We can dream of success in those areas all day long. But until we put into place beneficial daily habits that move us towards those goals, we’ll never achieve what we aspire to.
If you’re struggling in a particular area of your life, I encourage you to take a step back and look at it from the lens of today’s Bible passage. Are you putting in the daily work, doing the little thankless tasks that gradually move you towards your goals? Do you have the necessary boundaries in place? Or do you need to mend a “stone wall” so that you regain some control? Have you been wasting time or making hay? Scripture often gives us an insight into our daily issues if we’ll pause and look at them afresh through the perspective of what we have read there.
I passed by the field of a sluggard,
by the vineyard of a man lacking sense,
and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns;
the ground was covered with nettles,
and its stone wall was broken down.
Then I saw and considered it;
I looked and received instruction.
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man. ~ Proverbs 24:30-34

I love the sweater!!
Hi Kay
I love Talbots. I have been thinking of buying the corduroy pants. My store doesn’t have them though. What size are you wearing?
Love your blogs.
I’m wearing my usual size, medium.
Wow!!!! I don’t think I’ve ever read that verse before. Your devotional was very thought provoking. I’ve never shopped at Talbots until following you. I feel it’s matronly. But I did love the long sleeve small floral print blouse with a front ruffle you styled in the Spring and raw hem denim shorts a year ago that I wore again this Summer. So I’ve made two purchases so far. lol
I agree Kathy that their styles can lean toward matronly. I am very careful about my selections from there. But I do find some things I love and I think it’s important to style them carefully.
I love the port wine, and rich burgundy and berry colors again this Fall. I will definitely be wearing them. They not only look good with black, but navy and brown, etc.
Nice BFMD.
I always benefit from your devotional message as well as fashion advice. I love the sweater. Burgundy is my main color this fall/winter. Thanks for the shoe advice on the post yesterday. Lately I’m behind in reading blogs. Looking forward to your video tomorrow.
You make a basic cardigan look interesting, Kay! love it!
Great outfit, and glad loafers are widely available this year so I have a lot to choose from as they are the best shoe for me due to foot issues, other than sneakers, of course!
I was inspired to cut the hem of a pair of jeans today after watching your YouTube video. I had a pair of jcrew jeans hanging for about two years and had maybe worn once. I would put them on only to change because they never seemed to work with any shoe I owned. They are classic straight leg. I decided I couldn’t wear them any less if I already didn’t wear them. After cutting carefully and retrying (3x), I ended up feeling much better about them. I am actually wearing with low profile sneakers and a graphic tee!
This outfit, in the colors and fabric/fiber content identified. are right in tune with my tastes. The rich colors, including dark burgundy/brown loafers are the perfect introduction to fall and I love them. Thanks, once again, for an amazing post, Kay!
