Welcome to Dressed for My Day! Today I’m sharing a casual outfit you can enjoy wearing this spring…just for the fun of it. In fact, this is the kind of outfit that is made for getting out and having a good time.

Today’s post is not sponsored, but I do want to let you know that Talbots is offering 25% off your entire purchase right now. Score!

If you watched yesterday’s YouTube video (below), you’ll recognize these white sailor jeans as well as the two tops I’m sharing. I shared them as part of a Spring Travel Capsule Wardrobe in that sponsored video. But today’s blog post is NOT sponsored. I just really felt like these sailor jeans deserved another shout-out.

I loved everything I shared in that video, but these white sailor jeans are a surprise favorite. I thought maybe I’d like the blue denim sailor jeans, but, on me at least, the buttons on the hips of those jeans made me look even wider than I am. However, the white sailor jeans have white buttons that blend into the pants, so they don’t accentuate the hips in the same way. In fact, I find them to be quite slenderizing.

The white sailor jeans feature the trending fuller leg silhouette, but they are straight and fall from the hips in a way that actually elongates and slims. And remember, showing a little ankle can also be very flattering and elongating. I agree that it’s not ideal to wear cropped length pants that hit at the thickest part of the calve, but even at 5’8″ I’m not in danger of that with these white sailor jeans. They’re a very nice length. And they come in petite, plus and plus petite sizes, too.

Novelty Tee and White Jeans

I don’t know how it’s been where you live, but we’ve definitely had a taste of spring here. Just a taste, that is. Immediately following a day in the 70s we’ll sink back into the 40s the next. Of course it’s not even officially spring yet. But I know that even after March 20th, we’ll continue to have fluctuations in the weather. That’s why I like having items like this 3/4 length sleeve novelty tee in my wardrobe that I can wear alone or under something.

Novelty Tee and Cotton Sweater

In yesterday’s video I mistakenly said that this tee pictures a scene from the beach. 🤦‍♀️ I change in and out of a lot of clothes on those video shoot days, and I guess I just hadn’t taken a good look at it. Oh boy! Anyhow, the novelty tee actually features a really sweet painting of a field of tulips and a windmill. Quite lovely! I think it’s so cheerful peeking out from behind a denim jacket or the sleeves of this cotton sweater.

And if the day gets more chilly, you can easily slip that comfy, soft cotton sweater on over the tee for a super casual vibe. Both the cotton sweater and the tee fit true to size (as do the white sailor jeans). And the sweater is also available in garden green, bright tangerine and indigo blue. So there’s definitely one for everyone!

I completed the look with simple jewelry. I’m just wearing these gold beaded bracelets and some simple gold earrings that are no longer available. But I’ve ordered these Biscayne blue hoops and can’t wait to wear them with these pieces. And I’m never without my sunglasses!

Finally, I wore my new Talbots loafer mules. These little slip-on shoes are so comfortable right out of the box. And yes, they stay on my feet when I’m walking just fine. I do think I might could have sized down one half size. They’re a little roomy in the back. But I’m fine with these as is.

This is the kind of outfit that is perfect for so many fun spring outings and events. I would wear this to grab coffee with a friend, stroll through downtown shops, visit the farmers’ market, eat breakfast on the veranda while on vacation or visit a friend in her home. This look is casual and comfortable, but still looks pulled together and thoughtful. And those colors!

Don’t forget, Talbots is still offering 25% off your entire purchase. But that doesn’t last much longer. After that I expect them to offer savings on just a few types of items at a time, so now is a great time to score more at a great price. And I really have seen a return to great quality with Talbots this year, too. Check out my more elevated outfits from Talbots in this recent post.

Thanks so much for stopping in. Let me know if you have any questions about anything I’ve shown here today. Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

Have you grieved deep loss? Most of us have by this point in life. And my hope is that you felt the steadying arm of the Lord about you as you walked that hard journey. I found that grief has no time limit and some journeys through that dark forest take more twists and turns than others. But I’ve also learned that if I allow Jesus to be my companion through those hard days and nights, I never walk alone and I come through with treasures I didn’t even know were there for the taking. Praise the Lord! But what happened next?

The Bible makes it clear that the final leg of our journey through pain and loss isn’t really reached until we also comfort others with the same comfort we were shown so graciously by God. Sometimes that includes being vulnerable enough to share our own story of heartache, bad decisions, pain or rejection. That can seem scary. But if God is prompting you to reach out to someone who is now walking a through a valley of grief, you can be assured that He will equip you and guide you in those conversations if you’ll let Him.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

  1. Your BFMD is timely for me, Kay! My dad would have been 100 this month if he lived. Sadly he died over 30 years ago. His good advice sits with me every day though. Growing up in poverty, he insisted that getting a good education and always looking presentable and tidy was non-negotiable for his children. He said a good education is something no one can take away from you (unlike most other things in life). Faith was a cornerstone.

You look amazing in your outfit! Please send some nice weather to your northern neighbors so we can pack away the winter woolens!

  2. Hi Kay your ‘Blessed for my Day’ really resonated with me today Thank you the words brought so much Comfort🙏🏻. I loved your easy breezy Spring outfit your striped top snd white Sailor pants Hello Spring , your new hairstyle really suits your style Xx

  3. What’s the consensus on when to start wearing beige, cream, or white shoes? I grew up in wintery.upstste New York where you never touch those colors until after Easter. Now that I’m in Sunny Virginia, I feel like that rule should be different. Please help!

    1. Hi Kathy. That rule and others like it are gone. You absolutely can wear white year round if you so please, and many women do. I prefer to pull my white jeans out in the spring. And I like to reserve linen for summer. But there really are no rules. So I suggest doing what works best for your geography, weather and lifestyle.

      1. Yay! Thanks, Kay. And thanks for all your hard work. I always love seeing your latest and being inspired to live out my own style with your helpful hints, suggestions and advice. God bless!!!

  4. Dear Kay,
I have loved your spring ideas!! A lot because I am a loyal Talbots shopper and I adored the spring capsule wardrobe. I purchased the travel pants, the blue sweatshirt, the black and white striped top and the tulip t-shirt. I loved them all way more than I thought I would! I’m thinking about ordering the blue jacket as well! The blue color is so flattering. Thanks for all your great tips, I have used so many of them and find them so helpful!!

    1. That’s wonderful, Jana. I’m so glad you like the pieces you purchased. You know you can get 40% off one item now with code SPRING. Yay!
