What would Spring Trends Week be without a deep dive into denim styles for the season? Whether you’re prone to fill your spring wardrobe with a dozen pair of jeans or only one pair for just in case, you’ll want to know the most currents styles for the season. I’ve got the scoop! But instead of just running through a list of trends, I’m sharing five ways to update your denim for spring 2026.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. Really, denim styles have not changed significantly over the past year. So you may be good to go with the jeans you already own. But consider this information as you edit your closet for the most up-to-date silhouettes, washes and details. And if you’re ready to purchase new styles, I’ve got shopping widgets throughout the blog post to point you in the right direction.
Slim Silhouettes
While wide leg jeans are still very on trend (more on that in a bit), we are seeing additional styles in slim silhouettes. So if you prefer to wear outfits that are more body-fitting on the bottom and fuller on the top, this is your cue to add slim silhouette jeans to your closet for spring 2026.

To update your denim for spring 2026…
Now we’re not talking skinny jeans from the past here. But if you want to wear the new slimmer silhouettes, choose jeans that fit you without clinging to your body. You especially want a little room between the pant leg and your leg at the ankle, as seen above. Choose the rise that works best for you so that you can wear something a little fuller up top, maybe a relaxed fit shirt or pullover sweater. Since many of these jeans are ankle length, you can wear them with most any shoe. Show off your shoes and ankles by wearing a length that hits right at the ankle bone or just above.
Wide Leg Jeans Prevail…but Not So Wide
Wide leg jeans are still very on trend. So if you haven’t tried them yet, there’s definitely still time. The key is looking for a pair of wide leg jeans in a rise that fits and flatters. If you have felt dumpy in these wide leg jeans every time you’ve tried them, make sure you’re trying on options with a high rise and a good fit in the waist and hips. You want your wide leg jeans to fit close to the body in the torso and then off the leg to the hemline.

And this season the lines are even more blurred between straight leg jeans and wide leg jeans. The most prevalent style, in fact, is a hybrid that wears more like a full straight or a slim wide. If you have very wide leg jeans in your closet, you may want to put those aside…unless you just love wearing them!

If you really want to look current in spring 2026, fill your closet with ankle length and full length jeans that fall into that full-straight to slim-wide range. Choose jeans that fit well in the torso and graze the leg or fall about 1″ away from it. Truly, this silhouette is a classic you can add to your wardrobe with confidence.
Skinny Jeans- Still Outdated
If you still have the skinny jeans of yore in your closet, it’s past time to push them aside. Truly, it’s not just about the slim fit. Obviously, as stated above, you’ll find plenty of slim fitting jeans to choose from. The reason the skinny jeans you wore in the 2010s no longer work is because they look uncomfortable. In 2026 we’ve taken a decided turn towards clothes and even outfits that appear and truly are comfortable, but they’re also polished and a little refined. And let’s face it, while your old leg-hugging skinny jeans may feel comfortable to you, they don’t exactly look relaxed and easy on the eyes.

To update your denim for spring 2026…
Swap in a pair of the newer slim fit jeans with a little space between the jean leg and your ankle and you instantly look more comfortable and current. Trust me. This little tweak will make a HUGE difference in how contemporary you look in your jeans.
Clean Denim
Perhaps the biggest jeans shift I’m seeing for spring 2026 is a move towards cleaner denim. We’re talking no distressing or holes and only strategic whiskering and fading. But you’ll find many options with no fading or whiskering at all. (What is whiskering? Whiskering on jeans refers to the thin, horizontal faded lines or creases that develop across the front hip and crotch area, mimicking natural wear. While they occur over time with wear {especially in raw denim}, many modern jeans feature pre-fabricated whiskers created with sandpaper or lasers to achieve a broken-in, “vintage” look.)

To update your denim for spring 2026, remove from your closet the jeans with holes or extreme distressing. A little strategic distressing at the pockets or hemline won’t necessarily make you look dated. But for the most modern look, add a pair of jeans in a very clean wash, whether they are dark, mid or even light wash. You do you, but do it clean!
About the hemlines…
I’m sure I’ll get questions about the raw hems that have been so prevalent in recent years. Are they still in style? Yes, we’re definitely still seeing them, even from the more fashion-forward denim brands. But I’m not seeing as many of them as in recent years. And since the memo is going around to “clean up” your denim, I think it’s safe to say that the more current look is a finished hem. I find that women either love the unfinished hems or hate them. But I’d say they can still have a place in your wardrobe, maybe just not as prominent a position as before. I’m growing tired of them myself, and I have a feeling others are, too.
Heritage Washes
And let’s wrap it up with a trend I can really get behind. My bet is that many of my readers can, too. We’re seeing a huge return to what has been termed “heritage washes.” Resonating with that trending Americana vibe, these are jeans in either a true medium blue, a dark vintage blue or a crisp white wash. Check out the illustrations below.

I’m still seeing ecru or beige jeans in the denim brands we love, but I’ve also noticed a huge return of the true white jean. Consider reintroducing the classic white jean back into your spring wardrobe for 2026. Look for jeans with a good, thick denim that doesn’t show all your lumps and bumps…if you, like me, have them. I like these slim wide jeans in white and they’re marked down temporarily today. I had them last year with an unfinished edge, but they’ve updated them with a finished hem. Last year they ran large and I still have the 29 that fits. But this year they seem to have corrected the sizing and I have the 30.
You can also update your denim for spring 2026 by adding a pair in a true medium blue wash – maybe these in that same slim-wide silhouette – and/or a pair of true dark wash jeans. I got these from Citizens of Humanity and love them. You’ll find more options in the heritage washes below.
When it comes to updating your denim for spring 2026…
Don’t forget to always prioritize the jean silhouette, inseam (length) and rise (crotch to top of waistband) that works best for your body. I prefer shopping for jeans online because I can easily access that information on most retailer websites (but not always). When I’m shopping in store I find myself taking jeans to the fitting room that are not right for me at all. And the sales associate often brings them to me as well. I’d much rather shop for jeans strategically using the numbers I know work for me (an 11-12″ rise, a 27-28″ ankle jeans inseam or 30-31″ full length inseam). I’ve rounded up some truly updated jeans for spring 2026 in the shopping widget below. Let me know in the comments if there is something in particular you’re shopping for!

Blessed for My Day
Waiting – in any scenario – is hard. Whether you’re waiting for a routine doctor’s visit, a phone call about a prospective job, a visit from your grandchildren or improvement in a hard situation, waiting for something to happen takes patience and determination. Of course, when we know the wait shouldn’t be long, we can discipline ourselves to hang in there. But when the desired end is nowhere in sight, waiting becomes especially difficult.
I’ve discovered the secret to waiting when the time ticks on. If I know for sure (at least within reason) that the thing I’m waiting for will eventually happen, then I can wait with hope and expectation. That feels so much better than waiting with uncertainty, doesn’t it? Sister, here’s the secret. If you know the Lord and walk with Him, you can ALWAYS wait with hope and expectation. Why? Because your God is trustworthy and good. So wait with confidence that you will indeed see the goodness of the Lord in your situation. Be strong, take courage and wait with confidence in God.
I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord. ~ Psalm 27:13-14
I’ve been struggling with Waiting for awhile now. I have chronic migraines…. 39 years now. I’ve tried everything and my situation continues. I deal with some type of head pain daily lately, not knowing when it will hit, how severe or how long. It controls my days. I’ve cried out to the Lord many times but beginning to loose hope this will change from me. I have this very verse listed in my kitchen window. Trying to be brave as I wait, but the older I get the harder it is. I know and love the Lord and glad He is with me on this journey.
I love that so many styles of denim are out there now and more options to find “our” pair. I haven’t got into the dark wash yet. For some reason it still feels dated to me. I’m ready for Spring as my favorite style is the crop straight…. Little wider straight that show off any shoe. I love shoes!!!!
I’m sorry for your struggles Kathy. I too have many ongoing health issues. When I was having a lot of doubt about my health and thinking that nothing would change, that I would never get better, that nobody had my back, my life coach said to me- how do you know? How do you know that it would not have been worse? And that always stuck with me. You might think He’s not with you, but in fact the Lord might be performing miracles for you right now by not letting it get worse. Hope this helps.
Teresa….. Thank you for your reply. Brought tears to me. So beautifully written. Thank you for sharing what this coach said. I’m so glad it helped you get perspective during your health journey. So true. We aren’t alone as so many people suffer from things. I’ll pray for you and your journey. Again thank you for taking the time to write this out for someone you don’t even know. God is Good. He’s Good in the good times and in the hard times. Bless you!!!!!
Thank you Kathy for your prays and blessings.
Thank you, Kay, for all the helpful jean style info today. I just have one question, because I am a true apple shape, if you would consider doing a jean blog on PULL ON styles? I know there are many women, just like me, who do not wish to have the extra bulk of a snap and zipper on the tummy area. I do find some, but I think you would be able to cull out the best quality and styles. I am petite, so that option would also be helpful. Thanks again for all your hard work for us ladies who look forward to your blog each and every day! Have a blessed day!
I can definitely look for those and do a blog post if I find plenty of good options. Thanks for the request. Always welcome!
Kay – what purse are you going to pair with your Sand Suede Una slingbacks? Fits like Una ballet? Yellow beige or pink beige? Thanks
Hi Terry. I’m not sure about the bag yet. They fit like the Una ballet flat. Honestly, I feel like they are a very neutral beige. Definitely not yellowish. I’m not home right now to look more closely, but I found them to be a beautiful color. I’ll try to remember to share more when I get home.
I agree waiting for something is very difficult. I agree with everything you said about jeans especially the skinny jeans. I never found them comfortable. Even though I felt pressure to wear them I still would wear my straight leg jeans during that time. All the advice you gave about jeans I’m following. I’m petite and I wear wide leg jeans that fit at the waist and hips. With a fitted top I find them very flattering. I’ve heard other YouTubers say the same thing about the clean denim being more current. I’m tired of unfinished hems but I will still wear the jeans I have. I don’t like fading in the buttocks area either. I’m looking for a light wash slim wide leg that’s more of a trouser jean.
I have straight leg jeans in a medium wash, light wash and black. I’m waiting for white ones that are shipping today. I’m also waiting, not patiently, for more tests to be scheduled for my cancer treatment. It’s taking forever. I like your message today about waiting. I’m also trying not to be anxious.
Bless you. I do hope you receive good news. 🩷
I’m so glad that the wider leg jeans are still popular. They’ve been a literal God-send for me. I can wear those jeans and not overheat, as I do with closer fitting silhouettes. Plus, I just like the a trouser leg on me. Excellent BFMD!
