This past week we’ve had over a foot of snow on the ground and temperatures staying well below freezing throughout the day. So as much as I’d like to get out for my daily walks I’ve been working out almost exclusively inside. And even though no one else has seen me in my workout clothes except my husband, I’ve been getting dressed in coordinating activewear for my weightlifting, Pilates and HIIT workouts. I thought I’d share with you the winter activewear essentials for indoor workouts that keep me motivated and comfortable.

While today’s blog post has kindly been sponsored by Athleta, I would be showing you winter activewear from there anyhow. I’ve been wearing almost exclusively Athleta for my workouts for more years than I can remember. I just find that their clothes fit a real woman’s body. Working out consistently is enough of a challenge already; I don’t need to contend with sagging leggings, chafing tops and overly tight running bras. And that’s why I almost exclusively shop Athleta for my activewear essentials.

Athleta carries a full range of sizes from 00 to 26 and XXS to 3X in many of their items. And they have some tall and petite selections as well. Plus the quality is spot-on and great care goes into creating garments that are moisture-wicking, chafe-free, breathable, quick-drying and easy to care for.

Best of all, right now Athleta is having a great promotion with up to 70% off. And you can get an extra 30% off on sale items through 1/21. It’s a great time to stock up on winter activewear essentials for indoor workouts as well as outdoor walks, runs and hikes. And Athleta comprises a good bit of my travel capsule, too, with selections that are sharp-looking, but still comfortable, rip-resistant, and breathable.

Leggings
Softluxe Highrise Leggings (sized up to a large)

Recently I’ve pulled my Pilates mat out and I’ve been working on core strength, flexibility and coordination a bit more. So I’ve wanted activewear that is light and silky soft. These Softluxe high rise leggings feel like a second skin, with no binding or pulling anywhere.

I like to have winter activewear essentials that match. Wearing coordinating sets makes me feel better about myself, which I think is important for getting in a good workout and being consistent. So I also have the coordinating Softluxe built-in bra tank and Softluxe crop hoodie.

Softluxe from Athleta
Softluxe built-in bra tank TTS // Softluxe crop hoodie (body-con fit; sized up to a large) // Softluxe Highrise Leggings (sized up to a large)

These Softluxe pieces are just that, super soft and luxuriously silky. They come in three soothing neutrals and the jacket is available in misses, petite and plus fits. There’s also a Softluxe jogger and a Softluxe long-sleeve top. I like that I can wear both the Pyrite Dovetail Heather pieces and the Shadow Blue selections below with my other black Athleta tops and tights.

Elation leggings and Momentum tank
Interval Tipped Bra (for A-C cups) (TTS) // Elation ultra high rise leggings (Sized up to Large) // Momentum seamless tank (sized up, but should have purchase TTS)

When you’re lifting weights, running through a HIIT workout or doing Pilates, the last thing you want to have to think about is your clothing. It should be supportive, moisture-wicking and breathable, but also not binding or chafing. My Interval tipped bra, Elation ultra high rise leggings and Momentum seamless tank do what they’re supposed to do so I can focus on my workout.

I’ve enjoyed having the Shadow Blue Forever fleece full-zip sweatshirt to throw on before and after my workouts. It’s lightweight, but super cozy and soft.

I like to size up in my activewear just so nothing pinches or binds, so I’m wearing a large in everything else. But I have my TTS medium in the jacket, and it fits just perfectly. The full-zip hoodie rests high on the hip.

Workout Clothes for Winter

I’m pleased to report that I’ve been 100% consistent so far this year with my nutrition plan and workouts. And I think that having attractive, coordinating and comfortable activewear helps keep me motivated and on goal. Right now is a great time to shop Athleta to complete your winter activewear essentials capsule because you can get up to 70% off and an extra 30% off markdowns. I’ve created a shopping boutique below with my favorites as well as some other great finds, many of which I already own. Be sure to click through to Athleta to see the savings.

Thanks so much for dropping in today to see my winter activewear essentials. I hope you have a lovely and blessed day!

Blessed for My Day

There are a lot of people going through very difficult times right now. Yes, we know thousands have been displaced from homes and lost businesses due to the fires in California as well as other recent natural disasters. But on any given day, even the people just down the street from you could be hurting from their own personal pains. Life can be hard and feel unfair. Bad things happen to good people. And it’s enough to make one give up hope.

But you and I can be agents of hope in a hurting world. We have the good news of Christ. And we also know the love and goodness of God. Don’t miss any opportunity to you have today to remind others that God is still on His throne, He still cares and He still works. Even when bad things happen, God is working in ways we cannot imagine. This is not a trite message to be delivered glibly. But it is a powerful one to be shared with assurance and faith.

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to keep many people alive. ~ Genesis 50:20

xoxo, Kay

  1. I need new workout wear. I usually just walk but need to add weights. Now to get over being sick to get back in routine. It sure can get a person off schedule. I LOVE the blue workout outfit you showed. I get in a rut and wear black leggings only. I think I’ll have to take a closer look at the blue. So pretty. Looking forward to tomorrow’s video. Have a great rest of your day.

  2. A very timely post as many of us are trying to get back to exercise routines after the holidays. I really like the Shadow Blue pieces – so pretty!
Kay, would you consider a post or video about outfits appropriate for Valentines (but not “in-your-face” Valentines attire) – outfits for date night with hubby or a get together with friends?

  3. Hi! I really appreciate your informative posts and videos! Would you be willing to share more detail on what you do each day for your exercise program? Thank you!

  4. I love the brown leggings and jacket and keep looking at it wondering if I should order them. I noticed they’re still having the sale.
Is that outfit one you only wear for working out or would you wear it all day, (around the house, errands, etc) ?
I would rather buy clothes I can wear all the time and not sure if this would be ok for that?

    1. They are so comfy! And I think these two “sets” are very sharp looking. So I have worn them before and after my workouts around the house. I’m not prone to run errands in something like this. But if you are comfortable with that, then I think these work nicely. With the jackets they look like complete outfits to me.

      1. Thank you! I agree it would be good for workouts and around the house. I’m glad to get your opinion, I’m 62 so I probably wouldn’t wear it to run errands then either!
I would probably have to wear a longer top if I wore the leggings out and about to be comfortable.
