Welcome to Dressed for My Day! My goal here each and every day is to inspire and help women like me and you to get dressed for our REAL days in a way that feels a little stylish, modern, but still comfortable and appropriate for the day. I believe that when we put a little effort into our appearance, even on the most casual, relaxed days, we’ll feel more productive and beautiful, so we’ll interact with others more gracefully and energetically. To that end, on Fridays I get real and share how I’ve really Dressed for My Day for the past seven days. Here goes!

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.
What I Wore for Our Anniversary Getaway Friday
Our 37th wedding anniversary was last Thursday, so we took a little trip just over the Ohio River to Covington, Kentucky. Friday morning we took photos for yesterday’s blog post, Styling the Classic Black Trouser 3 Ways. Afterwards we had a wonderful lunch at the Hotel Covington, where we had spent the night.

After the photo shoot I changed back into this outfit, also shown in the blog post. It’s comfortable and casual, but still looks pulled together, stylish and youthful. I love the juxtaposition created by styling dressier pieces – such as the wool coat and trousers – with more casual items – like the white t-shirt and sneakers.
What I Wore to a College Basketball Game Saturday
Friday evening my son and daughter-in-law came in for the weekend. That Saturday we all bundled up to go to the University of Cincinnati to see OUR University of Arizona Wildcats play the Bearcats. Both of the kids graduated from University of Arizona (along with our daughter), and we’ve loved following the men’s basketball team for the past since 2009.

I didn’t have a team t-shirt to wear, so I opted for the school colors of red and blue. Since it was frigidly cold outside and we had to walk a little ways from the garage to the coliseum, my red cashmere turtleneck proved to be a good choice. I kept the outfit modern and very comfortable with my Ayr jeans and chunky sneakers. This turned out to be such a good choice. I felt appropriately dressed for the occasion and weather, but also youthful and stylish.
Sunday Was a Snow Day…
We ended up having to cancel our worship service Sunday morning because Winter Storm Blair was coming in fast and furious. But I had planned to wear this pretty balmy blue sweater dress. I took photos of it yesterday for a blog post next week, so I wanted to go ahead and share it with you. Sizes are going fast!

The dress is so comfortable and I think the fitted (but not too fitted) waistline is very flattering. The dress is warm, but not hot. It’s a polyester blend that truly feels like cotton. I’m wearing a size medium (TTS) very comfortably.
How I Dressed to Work from Home Monday
Monday we were completely snowed in as Cincinnati was under a winter storm emergency. I didn’t have anywhere to go since my nail appointment got pushed to Wednesday, so I hunkered down for a day of work and a lot of sitting by the fire and reading. Comfort was the order of the day, but I still got dressed in an outfit that coordinated and felt polished.

I topped my T by Talbots joggers with a ribbed tank top and a cozy, shadow blue full-zip sweatshirt. I felt smart for working at my desk, but cozy and comfortable for relaxing in front of the fire. I actually wore a variation of this outfit on Sunday, too, but didn’t take a photo.
What I Wore Tuesday
Tuesday James and I tackled my office and our guest bedroom (which is where things tend to spill into from my office!) to organize and toss. I was so grateful for his help. Mainly just having somebody do the job with me encouraged me to get it done. Purging and organizing always feels so daunting to me, but it sure does feel good to have it done.

After of two days in athleisurewear I was ready to put on “real clothes.” So I opted for my Paige Sarah straight leg ankle jeans with a hearty camel cashmere sweater and suede ballet flats. It looks like the sweater is sold out and the jeans are final sale (but nicely marked down), but the ballet flats are still available and nicely discounted.
What I Wore Out in the Snow Wednesday
By Wednesday our streets were cleared for the most part and I needed to get out for a nail appointment and a couple of errands. After days of casual dressing I was ready to put on something a little more elevated. I’ve learned that you have to begin a winter weather outfit by selecting your footwear, which, of course, need to be waterproof and have good soles if possible. I started with my Sorel Chelsea boots.

After I selected my footwear, I chose pants for their warmth, but also for the style I wanted to create. I opted for wool pants by Me+Em that I purchased last year. They’re a dark grey. Then I needed a top that would pull together brown boots and grey pants, so I chose my Veronica Beard fair isle sweater. It doesn’t have any grey in it whatsoever. But I think it works because it pairs with the boots and makes the outfit bookended. Before heading out the door I added my black puffer jacket simply because it is warm and it works okay with the grey and brown combo. I accessorized with a brown bag and gloves to pull everything together even more. You can see a little video I made about this outfit on Instagram and in my LTK Shop.
What I Wore for a Video Call & Work Thursday
Thursday was just another work from home day. But I was jumping onto a video call with two other bloggers, so I wanted to make sure I wore a little color. I had gotten in this great blue, silky cotton jersey shirt, so I decided to give it a whirl. Oh my! Love!

It’s a pleasantly stretchy fabric, like a really nice t-shirt. But it has all the features of a traditional button-up. So this top is perfect for the office, keeping you dressed up but also very comfortable. But I love this shirt for casual days when you want to look a little more elevated also. I wore it with my rattan colored Southampton pants and chunky Valentina sneakers, creating lots of juxtaposition. I topped the shirt with a cashmere “grandfather cardigan” in a soft oatmeal color. I loved the way this came together – comfortable but also polished and modern.
So that wraps up the week, but I do have a bonus outfit to share with you.
BONUS
I placed my first ever order with French brand Sézane recently, and it came in this week. The packaging was thoughtful and beautiful, and I’m so pleased with both of my purchases. I ordered items that I feel like I’ll be able to enjoy for years and frequently.

I got their iconic Chlo shirt in ecru guipure lace and paired it with my Paige Sarah jeans that I happened to have on that day. The shirt is so comfortable, and remember I have fairly large upper arms. I’m wearing my TTS 10 very nicely. It is a thick shirt but does have openings throughout. You might could actually wear it without anything but a bra underneath. But I’d ordered the Etam silky camisole I’d shared last week and decided to give it a try underneath. Perfection! I absolutely love both. The camisole is marked down right now and fits true to size. I got the medium in the Perle. I also got the Claude bag in glossy chocolate from Sézane. I’d been admiring it for a while. It’s beautifully constructed and a nice size for a date night.

Blessed for My Day
This morning as I read my Life Principles Daily Bible I came across Psalm 6:4. Dr. Stanley pointed out something I probably wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. Here the Psalmist, David, it crying out to the Lord and asking for His help. Now David was, according to the Lord, “a man after God’s own heart.” He wasn’t perfect by any means, but God loved his heart and knew it belonged to Him.
Still, when David asks for the Lord’s help, he doesn’t assert that he is deserving of it. Instead, He appeals to the Lord based on His, God’s, character. We can do the same. The Lord loves for us to call on Him for help in fact. And even when we are feeling at our lowest, we can ask…not because we are deserving, but because God is good, merciful, loving, kind, able and Creator.
Return, Lord, rescue my soul;
Save me because of Your mercy. ~ Psalm 6:4
Hi Kay,
Thank you for all the great tips and ideas!! Congratulations to you and your hubby!! Happy Anniversary and cheers to many more!!
I have had my eye on that Sezane blouse for months and keep wondering if I should spend the money. Now you have me convinced so I just put my order in! I love the look of Sezane products and now I know they are good quality and hopefully worth the money. Thanks so much!
Ooh! I think you’ll love it!
Always enjoy seeing what you wear. The dress looks so good on you. Love the casual outfits and the lace blouse too.
I love both the hearty camel cashmere sweater and the lace blouse! You look great wearing them! I bought the suede ballet flats.
Love all of the outfits. I wish it got cold enough in my part of the US to enjoy wearing wool blend clothes. It seldom gets cold enough to even ear a coat or jacket. And if it does, most business and events close down because we are not used to freezing cold weather. Therefore, there is no reason to get dress to go out and enjoy the cold. However, since I am retired, I don’t often have a need to go out. So, the at home casual wear you model is a nice try for me. Thanks for the spiritual encouragement after eac post.
You really knocked it out of the park! I love all of your outfits, but I especially love your anniversary outfit with the black trousers, wool coat, sneakers, and sweater
I love the Chlo shirt but their size chart shows the size 10 would be really large. You mentioned that you got the size 10. I usually wear a 8 to 10 but by their size chart I would be swimming in a 10. I am confused about what size to order. do you think a size 8 would be too tight? It’s a non American company and could be a problem to return?? Thanks
They actually have free returns so I don’t think it should be a problem. If you wear 8 or 10 I would probably go with the 8. The 10 is roomy on me but because I have wide shoulders I’m glad I got it.
I forgot to mention I am a petite 5`3`
I was interested to see what you wore to the sporting event & noticed your bag wasn’t see through. We just got tickets & Our venue requires a see through bag. Would love some recommendations.
I didn’t carry the bag into the basketball game. I just took it in to the restaurant where we ate afterwards.
