Scripture Meditation & Memory at DFMD 2023

Hello, sweet sisters in Christ. I apologize for being a day late with this scripture meditation and memory challenge. I really have no excuse. But after almost 11 months of this challenge I’m sure you understand how some days are just a …well, a challenge. Ha!

I’m determined to truly turn my heart toward thanksgiving this week. During the week of Thanksgiving I always like to try to boost my attitude of gratitude so that I remain in this posture of appreciation and humility throughout the holidays. Yesterday on a walk I began to thank God for so many of His benefits. Of course they are innumerable.

Week Twenty-One – 2023 DFMD Scripture Meditation Challenge

And I realized that, while all of the good things of life are indeed sweet blessings and I am grateful for them, we are amiss when we neglect to thank God humbly and frequently for the most important gift of all: our salvation.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

So my scripture for the next two weeks is ridiculously short, but oh so powerful. I will undoubtedly say it aloud several times every day as I prepare my heart for Thanksgiving and the holidays to come. I find that when my heart is more grateful it is also more joyful.

Again, I apologize for the delay. But I do anxiously await your scriptures for the next two weeks. This challenge is coming to an end soon. Let’s finish strong!

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  1. My verse was the one you had for the past 2 weeks, as I had already chosen another one for that time. So I now will meditate and memorize Psalm 119:15-16
I will meditate on your precepts
    And regard your ways
    I shall delight in your statues;
I will not forget your word. (NASB)

  2. Psalm 138 NKJV
The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

  3. Hi!
I’m going to continue with another verse in Psalm 100:4. It says:
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
Simple, but wanting to be in the “thankful and blessed” mindset. Spirit, help me to put this into practice every day! Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. My verses this week are Psalm 9:1-2 (NIV) -“I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”

  5. For Thanksgiving:
“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
    1 Corinthians 15:57

  6. Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17.

We have so much to be thankful for!! Happy Thanksgiving!!

  7. I had another verse all ready to go this week but I, like you, want to intentionally focus on what I am most thankful for, God’s gift of salvation. So I’ll be a little copycat this week. Thank you so much for your leadership in this year of Scripture meditation and memorization. It has truly been such a blessing to me and I have also ministered to others with the Scriptures.

Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (NIV)

  8. James 1:5 (NIV)

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

  9. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

  10. Good morning Kay and prayer-sisters!

    I’m going for Psalm 27:13-14

I am confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord. Be strong, take heart and wait for the Lord.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

  11. James 1:22-23

But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.

  12. I’m continuing with Psalm 23 in the NIV (actually my 1978 UK NIV which I use – paperback held together with silver tape! – as I see later NIV versions have changed some words again).

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

    Ps 23 4-5a

Happy Thanksgiving to you all, ladies, and best wishes from across the Pond.

  13. Thanksgiving as a holiday isn’t part of our tradition in Germany (although we do have “Erntedank” thanking God for a good harvest and everything good in our lives at the first Sunday in October). But it’s so good to get into an attitude of gratefulness and humility saying thanks to Him in order to prepare our hearts for our way onto christmas!
So my verse for the next two weeks is:
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thess 5:16-18)

A wonderful Thanksgiving weekend to you all and your families!

  14. We are studying Revelation and these verses describe the riches and glory of what Christ has accomplished for us. I will dwell here in my Thanksgiving that He has overcome the world.

“Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”
    Revelation 5:9-10

  15. Ephesians 6:13 (NKJV)

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God,
That you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
    And having done all,
    To Stand. “

  16. My Scripture is I Thes 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

  17. Don’t feel bad because I couldn’t remember if this was the week for a new scripture. My weeks are running together this month. I will use your scripture. It sums up the theme of this week perfectly.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

    2 Corinthians 9:15 NKJV

  18. Kay, I like your verse for this week of Thanksgiving and am adopting it:

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NASB)

  19. Dear Kay, no apology is necessary. Funny thing, for the first time since we started sharing scriptures I was prepared on Saturday!

The scripture that resonated with me this week: Philippians 2:14-16 (ESV)
Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

  20. Love this verse! Our pastor’s sermon was on being thankful yesterday at church. I listened to James’s podcast last time and enjoyed it so much that I will listen to this one also. My verse is about being thankful. Psalm 105;1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name: Make known His deeds among the peoples. NASB

  21. Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:5-6

During this season of Thanksgiving, I want to be especially grateful for our wonderful, loving, giving God! Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

  22. What better verse to reflect on this Thanksgiving week! 2 Corinthians 9:15.
    KJV
15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

  23. Over the next 2 weeks I will meditate on/ work on memorizing the last 2 verses of Psalm 23. I have really been enjoying meditating on it this last month!

  24. Happy Thanksgiving Blessings to all of you!!
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves” Romans 12:10

  25. I wondered what happened. I figured I was wrong on the date. I am VERY spacey so I totally understand how you could forget.

I am continuing my passage. “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”

There is a deconstructing movement that says there is no hell. I don’t understand how they can say this! Why did Jesus die? Why did the apostles endure horrific deaths? It makes no sense to me. There is a lying spirit deceiving our young people. I am praying against it. If the Lord leads, please pray with me. My daughters are dabbling in this and it scares me. Many people are falling for this.

  26. Ephesians 4:2 (NLT) Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

  27. Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus

For this Thanksgiving week, be thankful.

  28. For this is what the high and exalted One says-
he who lives forever, whose name is holy:
“I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
    Isaiah 57:15 NIV

  29. Let us come before His presence in thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with praise. Psalm 95:2 NASB

  30. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Psalms 100:1-4. KJV

  31. So many have chosen your verse,Kay,and I agree. It is perfect for Thanksgiving week!
2 Corinthians 9:15. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

  32. My verse this time is:
    Isaiah 41:13
For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
    ESV
    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  33. Since it is Thanksgiving week, I think this verse is appropriate:

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

    PSALM 107:8-9 (NIV)

  34. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I too will use Kay’s selected verse: 2 Corinthians 9:15
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift.

  35. Kay, My passage is short but sweet also:

2 Corinthians 5:7 (RSV – Revised Standard Version, The Great Adventure Bible)

For we live by faith, not by sight.

  36. My scripture will be Colossians 4:6, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. The holidays can be stressful, so I want to focus on how I respond to people-even when I’m feeling that stress! I don’t want may stress to put anyone off from God’s grace.

  37. It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High: To declare Your loving kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness by night. Psalm 92:1-2

  38. Psalm 73:25,26 ESV “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

  39. 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬-‭18 NIV
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

  40. As I’ve been going through a study in the Gospel of John this year this verse is one that I like for it’s conciseness:

For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6: 40 (ESV)

(I like the word everyone here. The promise of salvation is not restricted: it is open to EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM. That takes in anyone…and everyone who believes in Him; The kindness of God seen in his gift of Jesus!)

  41. I chose two verses today because I missed choosing a verse a couple of weeks ago. I had two picked out, but I love your selection today so I will go with that:

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.” 2 Cor 9:15

My second verse is from Ps. 139:5

“You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.”

  42. Hi Kay,
My scripture for this time is:
    Philippians 3:13-14
“ brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken a hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal, the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.

  43. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, as He planned for us to do.”
    Ephesians 2:10

  44. In keeping with the season of Thanksgiving, I have selected Psalms 92:1-2 NKJV
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night,

  45. I have been talking a lot to my students about being grateful and expressing gratitude, not just at Thanksgiving but every day! So I picked a short verse we could all remember from Psalms:
    Psalm 95:2
“Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!”

  46. Hi Kay and Scripture Sisters from Kym UK and Happy Thanksgiving to you All , I wish we did that here . Kay I enjoyed listening to James first podcast on Israel and shall enjoy listening to this one also , it has given me a lot of insight and helped me to understand and explain to my close friends and my family too. I’m sorry I am late with this I have just got back in after having lunch with some Wonderful friends , and for some reason this was redirected to somewhere other than my inbox I shall correct this. Kay I loved your Scripture today and would love to have used it , I will next time , but I already had mine ready.

35, Jesus travelled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the Synagogues-and announcing the good news about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36, When he saw the crowds , he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37, He said to his Disciples “The harvest is great , but the workers are few, 38, so pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields “.
    Matthew 9:35,36,37,38 (New Living Translation)

I chose this Scripture to remind me to always try and bring Light into others’ lives even when I feel tired or fed up ….God will give me strength♥️

  47. I am going to join you in the scripture this time.
2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift.
A simple but powerful scripture to keep on our hearts. Thank you, Kay.

  48. Hello Kay & lovely ladies. I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving. I’ll also be following Kay’s lead in scripture…

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift.”
    – 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NIV)

  49. Kay thank you for organizing a year of scripture memorization. And thank all of you who have shared in the journey. It has been a blessing.
I love all the scriptures others of you have shared about gratitude. I chose one as well and another blessing from the hand of God-peace.

”And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
    ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  50. Great scripture during this blessed season for being thankful. I also chose this scripture. Thank you, Kay.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15

  51. Enter HIs gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and praise His name.
    For the Lord is good and HIs love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.

    Psalm 100:4-5

  52. Hi Ladies,

I’m even later than Kay. I thought it was time for our scripture Sunday and had my scripture selected. When we didn’t get the email I thought I must have been off a week. I was so busy on Monday I never checked my email. So I’m posting mine now. This scripture is an encouragement to me to be brave with my faith and in other areas of my life.

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.”
    2 Timothy 1:7

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving ❤️

  53. I’ve been so sporadic this fall with memorizing. I am still on Psalm 40 and determined to finish it by the end of the year. I will be working on the last two verses. (It actually helps to ‘write’ this down here, bringing accountability into the picture.)
“But may all who seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee; may those who love thy salvation, continually, “Great is the Lord!”. As for me I am poor and needy; but the Lord takes thought for me. Thou art my help and my deliverer; do not tarry, O my God.”
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  54. “God is my refuge and strength a very present help in trouble.”

    Psalm 46:1

I have noticed a pattern throughout the year.
The Lord has led me to scriptures that relate directly to the events in my life. What a blessing this has been. Indeed His word has been my refuge, my strength and my help.

Thank you Kay for this opportunity 💗

  55. I Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

  56. Due to Thanksgiving week, I have chosen to memorize Psalm 100:4&5 The Remedy Paraphrase
Enter His gates with thankful hearts and His courts with praise; give Him your thanks, and praise His glorious character of love. For the Lord is good; He is love beautiful and everlasting He is always true – for all time, through every generation.

  57. My verse for meditation is from Proverbs 10:17 New Living Translation

“People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life,
but those who ignore correction will go astray.”

  58. I had picked out my next scripture verse before I read your post, and decided to use your verse instead. I feel that I could use a reminder of the most precious thing to be thankful for!

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
    2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV

  59. I too have been in the thanksgiving/ thankfulness mode. Last week i was reading a book with my granddaughter about a girl growing up in the Plimoth settlement. In the story she was memorizing Psalm 150 and I have been meditating on that Psalm since. I am copying the first and last verse here: Praise God in his holy sanctuary, give thanks in the mighty dome of heaven. Let everything that has breath give praise to the Lord. Hallelujah!

  60. I’m late but my verse is:
“Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for He is good, For His lovingkindness endures forever.” Psalms‬ ‭107‬:‭1‬ ‭LSB‬‬

Happy Thanksgiving to all my dear sisters in Christ!!

  61. Sorry for the late addition! Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a lovely day!

    Enter his gates with thanksgiving,

    his courts with praise.

Give thanks to him, bless his name.

    Psalm 100:4

  62. James 3:17 The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

  63. My verse to share is Psalm 100:4 (I so love the Psalms!): Enter His gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.

  64. Proverbs 22:6. Grateful and humbled at the legacy of faith witnessed in our family!

TRAIN up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old he will not depart from it.

  65. I’m admitting that I have allowed this busy week to interfere with too many important things – one being posting my verse for this week. But here it is. I’m continuing in my memorization of Ephesian 1:18-19 and praying this verse for one of my adult children who is following the ways of the world too closely.

    (18) I pray the the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, (19) and what is the boundless greatness of His power toward us who believe. Ephesians 1:18-19 NASB

  66. I missed the notification. So sorry. Here is my verse: Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you,so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so you will not be dependent on anybody. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

  67. I’m late this time. My verse is one we are learning in a Bible study I am in.

“Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭7‬:‭22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

  68. Isaiah 26:3-4 NIV
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the lord forever for the lord, the lord himself, is the Rock Eternal!

  69. My verse is from: Philippians 4,6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
    Love and blessings Monika

  70. I’m getting bad about forgetting to post. Thankfully we serve a God of grace and mercy! I’m working in the self-discipline part of this verse!

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.”
    2 Timothy 1:7
