Scripture Meditation & Memory at DFMD 2023

Happy Sunday! As we wrap up our final month of the 2023 DFMD Scripture Meditation & Memory Challenge, I have big news. I promised you a reward for finishing well, so today I’m sharing how I will deliver on that. First of all, I’ve already planned one Video Conference Call Celebration Party for Sunday, January 7, 3-4 p.m. EST. And you’re invited!!! But that call can only accommodate 100 people. So if need be, I can schedule a second one, too.

Here’s what I need you to do.

  1. If you can possibly make that call (it will be on Google Meets) on January 7, 3-4 p.m. EST, please let me know in the comments. Just say, “Reserve me a space for Party 1.” I’ll then send you an email sometime in the next week with a link to the party so you can add it to your calendar. (Make sure you enter your email correctly in the comment section. It won’t show in the comment, but I can see it on the back end of my website.)
  2. If you cannot make that call, but would like to join another one at another time, let me know that. And suggest a time (on that same day) when you could meet. I can’t promise that I’ll schedule the 2nd party for your suggested time. But I’ll do my best to accommodate as many people as possible. So maybe let me know a range of times that would work better for you. It would probably need to be later in the day, not earlier.
  3. If that day, January 7, is just not workable at all for you, please let me know a better day. If I have enough interest in a second day, I might can accommodate that.
  4. If you don’t plan to join us at all, that’s okay. No need to comment to that effect. We’ll miss you, but I understand this may not be for everyone.
  5. Of course you will need a computer or phone or tablet with a camera (built-in is fine) and mic, and you’ll need a good Internet connection to participate. Everyone MUST be on camera to participate. I’m sorry if that’s not comfortable for you, but I want to make sure that only those who are supposed to be on the call are on it. So I HAVE to be able to see everyone. This is for our security and privacy.

I also plan to provide us all a downloadable certificate that you can frame if you so desire. I’ll have that for you in January also.

By the way, I will not be hosting this challenge for 2024. I do hope you will continue the practice of selecting scriptures throughout the year for meditation and memorization, but I just need a yearlong break from hosting. If there is interest, we will do it again in 2025.

My personal plan for spiritual growth in 2024 includes once again reading through the Bible with the Charles Stanley Life Principles Daily Bible (or here). I highly recommend it if you’d like to join me. And if you express interest in the comments today, I might consider (and will pray about) hosting some kind of group encouragement format for reading the Bible through in the year.

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. ~ Luke 1:38 (ESV)

My 23rd Scripture

So without further ado, let me share my next scripture passage. I’m reading through the Emmauel 25 day advent devotional by Ruth Chou Simons currently. And the first verse she had us focus on was Luke 1:38. That scripture struck me afresh and I’ve been mulling it over all week.

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. ~ Luke 1:38 (ESV)

This scripture has me doing a posture check each morning. Ruth says our heart posture determines our relationship with the Lord. So true. God opposes the proud, but He draws near to the humble. Mary demonstrated true humility and trust in God. I want that kind of submissive spirit to characterize me every day as well.

When God challenges me to a new thing, takes me on an unexpected detour or gives me a fresh assignment, I want to respond the same way Mary did. Sure, she wondered at how He would accomplish His plan, but she did not question His authority over her life nor did she doubt His goodness. I want the same to be said of me.

I look forward to hearing about your 23rd scripture selection in today’s comments. And be sure to let me know if you’d like a reservation for the January 7th celebration or if we need to come up with another time that might accommodate you. I’d really like for us all to meet together on the 7th at 3 p.m. EST, so if we can do that we absolutely will. But if we have more than 100 women who would like to celebrate the fruit of this endeavor, then we will work to make accommodations to do so.

Have a happy Sunday!

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

I need to be a bit more trusting and be a bit more humble , and wait for God’s plans to unfold for me , instead of me ‘giving the plans i want to God ‘😂plus I need more patience , it’s a life journey not a race .

And Mary said ,”Behold , I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the Angel departed from her.

  24. Hi everyone,

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Kay .. I can’t attend on the 7th but plan next year to read the Bible in a year using the Charles Stanley Bible you recommended. If you host an encouragement session, I’d be interested and appreciative. Thanks!

  34. Thank you, Kaye, for the perfect scripture for this season. I will be unable to join on 1/7 (celebrating a big bday), but do let me know if another meeting day is added. 36. Thank you, Kay, for hosting this incredible community of prayer. While I read and meditated on scripture daily, I was not into the practice of memorizing scripture. May Our Lord bless you, Kay, and all of you with His peace, love, and joy.

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

    Isaiah 64:7
    Yet, LORD, you are our father;

we are the clay and you our potter:
we are all the work of your hand.

  48. Isaiah 61:10 (NABRE – New American Bible Revised Edition)

With delight I rejoice in the Lord. Though I trusted in your mercy, let my heart rejoice in your salvation.

  49. I am sorry, but I am not available on Jan 7th, but understand if that is the date that works for everyone. I have also been reading Luke since the time before Christmas is the perfect time to read just a chapter or two a day. Once you have finished Luke, it’s Christmas and you’ve read the story of Jesus’ life! So here’s mine, also focused on Mary: Luke 1:46-48 NRSV
“And Mary said, my soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my savior, for he has looked with favor on the low lines of his servant.”

  50. I choose Kay’s verse. Such a good verse to start Advent! Luke 1:38. And Mary said,”Behold I am the servant of the Lord;let it be to me according to your word”. And the angel departed from her.

  51. Reserve me a space in Party 1
My verse is Exodus 33:14 (NIV)
The Lord replied, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” This verse captures my attention as I have spent the past 8 days/ nights in a hospital with my precious 80 year old mother. Remembering God is with me (us), helps settle me anxiety and does give me rest.

    1. Hi Angela .. I know being in the hospital with a loved one can be very stressful. I’ll be praying for you and your mom. Love, hugs and prayers to both of you. Frani 💕

  52. “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to Your Word.” Luke 1:38
“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her! “ Luke 1:45

Pairing two passages together (from different versions)

Please reserve a space for Party 1, if still available.

  53. Please reserve a space for me in Party 1. Thanks

    James 1:25 KJV

  54. I am interested in joining the first party on the 7th.
I will use the scripture you selected as well in the NLT version.
Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.
    Luke 1:38 NLT

  55. Yes! Please reserve me a place for party 1!
    Thank you Kay!
I am also memorizing Luke 1:38:
And Mary said “behold I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me, according to your word”. And the angel departed from her.
    ESV

  56. Luke 2:13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angels, praising God and saying:
Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.
I was blessed by the phrase “on whom his favor rests.”(NIV)

  57. Kay thank you for hosting this scripture memory group in 2023. It has been a blessing to me – memorizing scripture of course, but also reading scriptures and comments from other believers has encouraged my heart and faith.

Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8

  58. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the thrown of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Heb.4:16 NAS

  59. My verse today is Isaiah 40:10
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

  60. Sorry the 7th at 3:00 will not work for me.
    John 3:16.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

  61. My verse for this time of meditation is from Isaiah 40:31 New Living Translation

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.”

  62. Please reserve a place for 1.
Lord willing I will be able to attend. (I am learning to say “Lord willing” as I make plans.)

I am definitely memorizing and meditating on this verse in 2 Corinthians. The scripture references to this verse were full of the gifts God gives us. I praise Him for His indescribable gifts!

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭15‬ ‭NASB

This week I am focusing on the first verse for advent with the focus on HOPE.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  63. Hi there! So much news! I’ll not be participating on January 7th but I do think that would be exciting. Not sure I’m techy enough to do all of that.
My verse this time is 2nd Corinthians 9:15, Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2nd Corinthians 9:15. This is the one Kay chose last time. I feel like He wants me to continue to be thankful to Him for all-everything! Thank you, God.♥️

  64. For Advent:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you might overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
    Romans 15:13 NIV

    I can join Party 1

  65. 2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

  66. I chose Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

  67. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.

    Hebrews 10:35-36

Thank you Kay, for all the time and effort you have put into this scripture challenge in the past year. We truly appreciate you.

  68. The verses that I REALLY needed to hear this week and sharing with y’all : Matthew 5:43-45 But I tell you love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

This is a very hard thing for me to remember to do. Totally changes a lot of my initial thoughts and reactions!

  69. Apologies for being 2 days late with my scripture verse. Since we have just entered the season of Christmas, I have chosen the following verse:

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.
You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”

    Luke 1:30-32 (NIV)

  70. Hi Kay and Community,

YES, I would like to join the celebration. This challenge has changed my life, particularly in how I have responded to some very difficult circumstances at work. As of today, I have left my job at my boss’s request that I resign. I have peace knowing God has been guiding me and teaching me through it all, and trust He has a future and a hope for me. That said, my scripture is Psalm 59:16-17
    But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength;
Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For You have been my stronghold
    And a refuge in the day of my distress. O my strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness.

    1. Hi Becky I wish you so much good luck for your future plans . How brave you have been to follow God’s Guidance , he has given you strength and I hope the plans God has for your future Sparkle with Happiness and Love ❤️.

  71. I am sorry for my late response, Kay. It’s been so busy around here. I will not be able to attend at this time because our family gets together on Sunday afternoon and usually are still here at that time. I might be able to meet at a second time, but can’t commit to that unless I know when it is.
My scripture verse this time is:
1 Peter 5:6 NIV Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He May lid you up in due time.

  72. And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
    Luke 1:38 (ESV)

  73. If I’m not too late I’d like to reserve for the first party. My scripture for this week is:
”“As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will rise up over the dust of this world.“
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭19‬:‭25‬ ‭LSB‬‬

  74. Please reserve me a space, party of one.

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Hebrews 10:23 NLT

  75. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist…. 1 John 4:2-3 NIV

  76. For to us a child is born
To us a son is given
And the government shall be upon his shoulders
And his name shall be called
Wonderful counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
    Isaiah 9:6

I will be traveling January 7 but would like to participate if you choose another date.

  77. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

    2 Timorthy 4:7 NKJV

I am late in sending my verse but just returned from a trip. I chose this verse because I strive to be faithful like Paul. At the end of my race, I want to be able to say that I fought a good fight, finished the race, and stayed faithful to Christ.

  78. Jeremiah 29:12,13
“ When you will call upon me and go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart”

  79. I would love to join you Jan. 7. The Scripture I’ve been meditating on is:

    Luke 1:37 KJV

For with God nothing shall be impossible.

  80. The days leading up to Christmas. It’s always so stressful for me so I chose this purse this week..
    Luke 10:41-42 NIV
“Martha Martha”, the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed, or indeed, only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

    1. Reserve me a space for Party 1 (if there is still room).

I really enjoyed doing the scriptures this year. Thank you for hosting!
      Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

  81. Please reserve a spot for me for a party of one.

I picked this next passage to help me with parenting…
”My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you.“
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
