How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Happy Friday! This is the day of the week when I generally try to share my real life outfits for the past week. I did, however, stay away from work during my Thanksgiving trip to my son’s home, so I don’t have outfit photos of that part of last week. Otherwise, this is indeed how I really dressed for my day this week!

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask.

All available items are linked in the captions of the photos. Even if they don’t look like links (sometimes they don’t highlight for some reason), they generally are. So just click through if you’re interested.

What I Wore

Sunday was cold and sunny. I chose to wear my new grey sweater with metallic stripes to kick off the holiday season. I wore it with some old grey jeans from last year; so they’re no longer available. But this slightly cropped length sweater is available in limited sizes. Metallics are so on trend and quite fun to wear, especially in simple iterations like this.

I completed the look with lug sole lace up booties from a couple of years about. But I’ve linked to similar boots above. I love a tone on tone look in this shade of grey.

What I Wore

Sunday afternoon I switched into my super comfy pieces from Vuori. I’m not sure if this photo is actually from that day, but this is the way I wear this combination every time…and very frequently. It’s my go-to outfit for evenings at home, too.

What I Wore

Monday we were taping videos for this past Wednesday and next week. Next Wednesday I’ll be sharing how to wear cardigans and look modern and fabulous, not frumpy. This is an outfit I come up with after I’d finished recording the ones that actually appear in the video. But I wish I had shown this one. It’s really my favorite. Ha!

That’s how it goes sometimes. Remember, I’m not a professional stylist, just a woman who has been learning a lot about fashion as I blog here. So it often takes me quite a while to play around with pieces and create looks I like. I do like the outfits I’m showing in next Wednesday’s video, but this is one I happened into after we finished recording and I stayed in it a while. I often forget about building a column of denim, but it’s such a sharp look.

What I Wore

Tuesday we finished up recording next week’s video. We had lost the sun on Monday and needed to wait until Tuesday morning to finish. I just don’t like the view outside the window behind me to be dark. Ha! Anyhow, you’ll see this outfit in next week’s video; it’s the one I wore while recording the speaking portion.

This is definitely an outfit I would wear to church or somewhere that I needed to be a little professional.

What I Wore

Then Wednesday we took photos for yesterday’s blog post. So this is how I wore that pretty black and white floral blouse in the morning before we shot those photos. I love how it works with jeans and a cardigan.

blouse // similar cardigan (more economical) // flats // earrings // jeans are old and not available

I also like how that blouse works with my red Talbots Hampshire ankle pants. I’m going to love having this versatile blouse in my wardrobe.

What I Wore

Then Wednesday afternoon after the photo session I ended up in this outfit for some reason. Ha! I’m not really sure why. I was probably trying on the grey cashmere sweater with something and ended up putting on these red cords because they are so comfortable. Honestly, I tend to default to comfort more often than not. That’s why it’s so important that I don’t even purchase anything that doesn’t feel really good.

And I’m loving these pretty silver metallic loafers. Unfortunately I can’t wear them real long because they are just basically flat with no support. You know I’m having a little bit of issues in my metatarsal area of one foot. I pick up my orthotics next week, so we’ll see if that helps. But meanwhile I’m really trying to wear shoes with a bit of a heel and some cushion. It really feels a lot better than before already.

What I Wore

And yesterday I worked from home on a video edit all day. So I just wore my relaxed fit straight leg jeans and a simple cable knit sweater. I have a very lightweight tee underneath. Oh, we actually did take photos in the afternoon again, so that explains why my makeup looks as good as it does. Hahaha! You can usually tell which days I take photos because I’m a little more made up.

sweater // white tissue tee // jeans // boots // necklace // bracelet // earrings

I played around with a front tuck of this sweater, but it just didn’t work. And in the end it didn’t matter because I wasn’t going anywhere. Plus, because these jeans are full length I think the proportions are pretty good.

So that’s a wrap! I’m trying to make sure I take photos of all my outfits now. I just really needed a few days off at Thanksgiving. I can let you know, however, that on Thanksgiving I wore these fun pants (so comfortable!) and this sweater in heather almond gold.

Blessed for My Day

Today I began reading through my Christmas advent devotional, and the focus verse was Luke 1:38. We were reminded that the posture of our heart sets the trajectory for how we relate to the Lord. God opposes the proud, but He draws near to the humble. Mary humbly accepted the angel’s message when he announced the birth of Christ…even though she couldn’t comprehend God’s plans. That kind of heart posture made her the best candidate for bringing the Messiah into the world.

Imagine what God can accomplish through us if we have the same heart posture Mary had. How can we have that type of submissive spirit? We must learn to trust God’s character even when we cannot see His hand or comprehend what He is doing. We must resist the urge to take over or get ahead. And we must lean into His Word and trust Him fully. Let’s pray for that kind of humility today.

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. ~ Luke 1:38

  1. I see you are in longer cardigans and have the long necklace on. Are these trending again? It is so hard to keep up with the rapidly changing fashion cycle!

    1. I have a video coming up Wednesday about trending cardigans. But I think this one is fairly classic, not necessarily on trend but not out either. I’ll share a couple that are definitely out of style on Wednesday 😉

  2. I’m loving your red slacks and gray sweater❤️. Also the denim look with your maroon cardigan……a classic.

I know you are getting so excited for your new grand baby KAY….would be cool if she had it today …..it’s my Birthday! Hence why my Mom named me Holly, December and Christmas! I think you said Abigail was having a girl, is she naming her a Christmas name? Looking forward to seeing her.

    Blessings,

    1. Thanks Holly. We did suggest that name. 😉 But they actually have not shared a name yet. I don’t think they know for sure. And happy birthday! 🎉

  3. Hi Kay how exciting for you all that baby will be here before Christmas ❤️👶🏻🤱. So sorry to hear about Abbies Boss passing away , what a shock for her .
Loved your pretty black/white blouse with jeans 🖤🤍. And I loved the Column of Denim with tje Wine Cardigan , I really like that longer style cardigan . You also look so good in the Grey sweater with the Red Trousers beautiful combination , loving you silver metallic shoes . I hope your Orthotics work for you Xx

  4. I enjoy your blog and have been learning a lot. I have 2 questions. Is the Talbots chocolate boot comfortable and is the lavender sweater soft? Thanks and God Bless.

    1. I do indeed find the Chelsea boots to be very comfortable. They run true to size. And the lavender sweater feels a lot like a cotton sweater to me. Hope that helps you out. 😊

  5. The Scripture made a great impact on me, Kay. As one who has been faced with multiple diagnoses of cancer over the past few years, I view Mary’s response through that lens. God uses all things….He uses health issues, unplanned events, even disasters….all for our good and for His glory. May it be done, according to His will. He promises His presence and reward today and eternally through all!
As far as fashion… the long necklace makes quite an appearance this week. (!)

    1. Bless you. Thanks for sharing your perspective. That’s a blessing to me. And that necklace? I’m enjoying it even more than I expected!
