Scripture Meditation & Memory at DFMD 2023

We’re in the thick of it now, sweet sister. We’ve been adding scriptures to our albums and meditating on them long enough to know that this is a habit worth keeping. I do hope you are still enjoying both the work and the fruit of this spiritual discipline. But even if you’ve missed more days than you’ve done well, I do hope you will keep plugging away. God will bless you richly as you endeavor to meditate on and memorize His Word.

Week Five – 2023 DFMD Scripture Meditation Challenge

Recently I’ve been convicted to heed God’s call to holiness. So I’ve been pondering what that should look like in my life…that “set apartness.” I don’t want to try to manufacture a uniqueness or otherness that doesn’t reflect the holiness of God. I want to live a life of obedience that plainly and beautifully marks me as His child.

For that reason, I’ve selected to meditate on and put to memory 1 Peter 1:14-16.

Week Five – 2023 DFMD Scripture Meditation Challenge

It’s a high calling, for sure. One I cannot attain in the flesh, only through the empowering and work of the Holy Spirit. But I definitely long to be a light in the darkness and to bring my God glory. I know there is no other way to do that than to live a life that reflects His character…even in the mire and stickiness of this world.

I look forward to reading your selected scriptures, too. Thank you so much for sharing them every first and third Sunday (or shortly thereafter). Only heaven will tell the amazing impact this little exercise is having on all of us and each of us. Be sure to share your scriptures with other people, too, as you have opportunity. God’s Word never returns void. So each time you tell someone about a verse you have been chewing on, you give them the opportunity for a powerful encounter with the Living God.

  2. I will choose the 1 Peter verse for meditation and memory. I am studying 1 Peter in my Community Bible Study class now, so it speaks to me. I see myself as ordinary; not holy. I need to step up into the light and humbly reflect God’s holiness in all I say and do. It is quite a calling.

I will have to be honest, I’m so busy with work, planning a wedding, a new grand baby, birthdays, a new additional employee and my daily Bible reading and study amongst other things that this has fallen to the side this last week! So. I’m still on last scriptures! Hope there is some grace here 💕it so so important to “hide the word in my heart”

    My verse is from 2 Cor. 1:3-4
    Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble.

    A dear friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer, and her treatment has started. Our circle of friends is committing this verse to memory in her honor as we provide care. May we all have a week where we can bless those around us. Happy Sunday!

    2. What a wonderful support! As a three time cancer survivor, I highly recommend the book by Chris Wark called “Chris Beat Cancer” to support her health. He is a Christian and his devotional for cancer patients is also great. I will say a prayer for your dear friend:)

  25. This week I searched for a verse of scripture that spoke to me, and no verse came to me. As I read Kay’s scripture, and why she was meditating on it I had this verse come to me.
    Revelation 3: 15-19 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold not hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold I will spit you out of My mouth, Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,.I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.     We’re attending a “Weekend to Remember “ event ( ( about strengthening our marriages) this weekend and this Scripture is reminding me how important it is to be intentional in our marriages.

  30. My verse for the next two weeks is: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. This verse reminds me that Christ Jesus has provided the roadmap for my life, and that following Him will help me overcome the troubles of this world and bring peace. This reminds me that I need to follow the path of discipleship, which is the purpose for my life.

    I’m choosing this because I struggle with anxiety frequently at work. This is something I can repeat over and over to myself to help calm me down.

  35. I would like to continue with the theme of forgiveness this month. Sometimes it is very hard to forgive, depending on the severity of the grievance. So here is another bit of scripture that touched my heart. Not only does it talk about forgiving others, there is a bonus: it discusses how we should be towards others. I love it!

    “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. If one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And overall these, put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.” Col 3:12-14 NAB

  43. My Bible verse for the week of March 19th: Colossians 3:17, NLT, New Living Translation.
    And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

    I love this verse because it reminds me to be holy and to show my gratitude to God the Father through Jesus.

    In addition to writing my verse on the index card, on the back of the card I describe what triggered me to choose the verse so that I can also refer back to my thoughts at the end of the year. Most times the reasons are multiple and that helps me realize that our Lord is working his miracles through me in manner different ways through so many angles. it helps me remember that he is always nearby, more than I am initially aware.

    Memorizing Scripture verses from the Book of Revelation helps me to keep an eternal perspective. This brings God’s balance to every facet of my life.

    There are so many distractions around us these days. This passage reminds me that God is always close by even when we feel like we are straying from His purpose for us. We have to keep the communication lines open and “check in” and keep connected so we can live our best lives in His glory.

  67. This week the women’s Bible Study I attend is studying Micah. This is one verse that clearly defines part of God’s plan for our lives. So for the sixth memory verse I choose Micah 6:8.

    I chose this verse as I am trying to buy less / spend less / downsize. My closet is overflowing with more clothes than I can wear. And it’s hard to pass up a new pair of shoes or purse even though I have so much more than truly needed. I want to live with less, spend less time maintaining and organizing “stuff”, which will give me more time to study God’s word, spend with those I love, and more time for self care.

    I’ve been studying Romans these last few weeks and the Lord has revealed to me a deeper understanding most especially of Romans 11. An understanding I’ve been yearning for, for many years. Because of this Scripture Challenge I am finding myself more hungry to understand God’s word than ever before. I thank you for this tremendous collection of chosen verses so many women are sharing as well as their reasons why. I read them over and over again. I cannot thank you enough.

    It reminds me of what Kay said in her recent video about looking younger: avoiding a critical spirit will keep us looking younger. These characteristics help us avoid a critical spirit and will help me be more winsome to others as I seek to point them to Christ Jesus.

    Waiting is active and preparatory with my focus to be on being still in order to hear and obey the Lord. He promises strength renewal and forward acceleration as a fruit of waiting on Him. Yes Lord. Let it be.

  117. Continuing in Psalm 34, verse 6 reads “This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”
    Remembering verse 4, which stated the LORD saves from… here, it reads that the LORD saves him out of all his troubles. He removes us from a place of trouble, to put us where He wishes. He saves us out of. Its comforting to know that no matter where I find myself, whether or not I caused the situation, I can cry out to Him. And He dosen’t just hear, but He will lovingly respond in the best way possible. WOW!

  120. This week I am getting anxious for Easter. I normally prefer the flowery language of the KJV, but that version kept using the words hope for, as though my deliverance was not guaranteed by Jesus scarafice. It just felt off, so I switched versions to the Common English Version for this verse. My verse for the next two weeks: “The LORD is good to those who hope in him, to the person who seeks Him. It’s good to wait in silence for the LORD’s deliverance.” Lamentations 3:25-26 CEB

    What does that mean?’
    Will we be looking at him as an aesthetically beautiful deity? Will we be awed by His beauty? Like we are awed by a beautiful sunset, landscape, or the intricate beauty of a flower?
    Probably so.
    However, I like what Matthew Henry, an 18th century preacher, says in his commentary. Referring to David who wrote the psalm, he says,” He knew something of the beauty of the Lord; His holiness is his beauty; his goodness is his beauty; his goodness is his beauty. The harmony of all his attributes is the beauty of his nature.” Now that’s something to ponder,

That week, my son and family’s dear friend passed away, I ended up with a sinus infection, and we had our school accreditation which kept us late several nights after school.
