Spring, like fall, is a season for layers. If you enjoy reaching for a blazer or other structured jacket, this is the perfect time to add a trending lady jacket to your wardrobe. In recent years you may have noticed that many of the lady jackets available featured sweater-like fabric and conformed to your body. But this year the lady jacket has taken a boxier silhouette. Let’s look at how to wear this on trend jacket for spring 2026.

The Trending Lady Jacket for Spring 2026

This spring the lady jacket has taken on a boxier silhouette and features more structure in the shoulders. You’ll still find options with softer features, undoubtedly. But I do have a few tips for wearing the more structured trending lady jacket for spring 2026.

tweed lady jacket (TTS) // sweater (TTS) // white jeans (Sized up to 31) // similar heeled sandals // shoulder bag c/o // earrings c/o // coin necklace c/o // beaded necklace c/o

I’m wearing a richly textured tweed lady jacket in a cropped length. It’s finished with a sharp collar, patch pockets and covered buttons, perfect for elevating even the simplest look. This jacket, available in sizes 00 to 24, was marked down slightly just yesterday, but it’s back at full price today. Bummer.

However, I’ve worn it with white jeans and a red short sleeve cashmere t-shirt, both of which are 25% off today in the Madewell Insiders Event. Not an Insider? Just sign up. It’s free and easy, and you’ll get additional year-round benefits like a birthday bonus, a half birthday bonus and free shipping and free returns.

Create Horizontal Balance with the Trending Lady Jacket

One of the keys to wearing the boxy fit lady jacket this spring is to pair it with bottoms that create horizontal balance. I like the combination of the tweed lady jacket with these particular white jeans because they are slim in the hips with a noticeable but small bell at the bottom of the legs. That flare at the bottom of the jeans, ever so slight as it is, gives balance to the pronounced shoulder pads in the jacket.

While I would still wear the lady jacket with fuller straight leg jeans, I probably would not suggest pairing it with slim leg or skinny jeans, a combination that would create too much width at the shoulders with no corresponding width at the bottom of your outfit to balance the look.

Create Pleasing Vertical Proportions with the Trending Lady Jacket

Because the trending lady jacket is in a cropped length, you could easily create pleasing proportions with full length or ankle length jeans. In other words, you have plenty of options when it comes to pant inseam lengths. However, the key to making the most of the cropped length jacket is wearing a pant or jean in a mid to high rise.

My white jeans supposedly, according to the website, have a 10.75″ rise, but I measured them and the rise is actually 12.5″. That’s a significant jump! I probably would never have ordered them if I’d just read the information on the website, but I came across them in the store and could tell they were a true high rise. The short sleeve cashmere t-shirt also has a slightly cropped length, so it works nicely untucked, creating a long leg line and pleasing vertical proportions. You want to create proportions of 1/3 to 2/3. So in this outfit the top portion is 1/3 of the visual picture while the bottom portion is 2/3.

Have Fun with the Trending Lady Jacket

I chose to wear the red sweater here because it picks up the small red thread that runs throughout the mostly blue tweed lady jacket. But it also looks great with something as simple as a white or navy t-shirt underneath. You can certainly wear the trending lady jacket with dress slacks and even skirts or dresses. But I think it’s fun to create a little juxtaposition with the jacket by pairing it with other elements that are more casual in style.

Blessed for My Day

Is something causing you to feel discouraged or even fearful today? Or is there a worry weighing heavy on your heart…and your shoulders? Maybe you’ve noticed that the more you dwell on that concern, the larger it feels. That’s because, truly, whatever we focus on does indeed begin to grow in our minds and hearts.

I woke up with a heavy heart and feeling a little discouraged. And I really didn’t even know why. It was hard to get out of the bed honestly. But I knew that if I would head downstairs, pour my coffee and open my Bible, those feelings would begin to dissipate. Sure enough, as I focused on the Lord and His ways and His Word, the concerns of this world began to fade in the background. My hope and faith grew and soon displaced my discouragement and fears. “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.”

I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul will make its boast in the Lord;
The humble will hear it and rejoice.
O magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together. ~ Psalm 34:1-3

  1. Kay you look beautiful in the whole outfit!

    I was wondering about the “sweatpants” jeans you traveled in….would you recommend them and did they shrink after you washed them. I am getting ready for a long flight and I’m trying to decide if I wear a matching set like your Spanx or order some of the sweatpant jeans to wear in the long flight.

    What do you think?

    1. I really enjoyed wearing those for my trip. They did not shrink when washed but I didn’t dry them. I like the ones I wore, but I like these even better and have them, too. https://go.shopmy.us/p-47884082 Both are on sale right now in their friends and family sale and you can use code SHOPMY15 for an ADDITIONAL 15 % off.

  2. Apparently short jackets are popular again, but I don’t care for them on me. They look nice on you though.

  3. Thank you Kay for your honest BFMD. I too have had these mornings and yes, if I go to the Lord it helps. I find early 60’s a struggle at times and don’t know why.

  4. I truly like the look of this jacket style however, an hourglass figure with a full bust just does not look as flattering. Some of my jackets from my career days are the cropped length but a bit tucked at the waist giving it a slight wedge. I urge any of us with full bust hourglass to be careful not to get too boxy on top. It will make you look larger than you really are. Without showing off some waist definition, we loose our silhouette and appear to have more pounds than we care to show.

  5. Very nice jacket. Love the whole outfit on you. I like crop jackets and wear them a lot. I’m 5’2 and they look good with my high waisted wide leg jeans and pants. It’s my signature look. You’re correct about crop jackets with slim jeans not being the best look. I wear a longer jacket with straight jeans. On me blazers look best with my bootleg and flares. Your devotional message is spot on. I’ve felt like that at times. When I pray and read my Bible it goes away. God speaks to me through His Word.
