It’s Fall Denim Week 2024 here at Dressed for My Day. Each day I’m styling a different silhouette of jean. So many different styles are looking current and on trend right now, so you can pick the ones that you love and that resonate with you. Not everyone will love every type of jean (as we clearly found out in the comment feed of yesterday’s blog post, ha!), and that’s quite okay. But I’m sharing tips for how to style the most current silhouettes so each woman can wear what she loves with confidence. Today I’m sharing tips for styling the full length wide leg jeans specifically for early fall.

The Full Length Wide Leg Jeans
This year the most current and on trend jean is the wide leg silhouette. You’ll find plenty of them in both cropped or ankle length and full length. I find that you have to style the full length and shorter length versions quite differently, so today we’ll just discuss the full length option.

You’ll find full length wide leg jeans is a variety of washes and aesthetics. Dark wash is so on trend this year, so I’m sharing a pair of very polished denim wide leg trousers from Ann Taylor. They’re available in classic and petite fits in a full range of sizes, from 00-18. I’m wearing a size 10 very comfortably, so I’d say they run true to size. These are a high rise jeans sitting just 1/2″-1″ below the natural waist.
I’m also sharing the Ann Taylor wide leg jeans in the original medium stone wash, a more relaxed and casual jeans. These also run true to size; I’m wearing a 10. These are more of a mid rise jean, sitting 2 1/4″ below the natural waistline.

I do like the way both of these jeans fit and wear, and they’re available at a reasonable price. I was able to get them 30% off a couple of weeks ago, so watch for these to go back on sale soon, maybe this weekend. Meanwhile, I’m sharing other full length wide leg jean options in the shopping widget below. I’ve included a few bootcut options, too, because you generally style them the same as wide leg jeans.
How to Style the Full Length Wide Leg Jeans for Early Fall
Once the weather cools, I think the best shoe option to wear with full length wide leg jeans is clearly the bootie or short boot. They fit easily under the wide leg and looks so seasonally appropriate. I prefer a pointy toe or squared off toe, but an almond toe can work, too.
But during the early days of fall, what’s a gal to wear with her full length wide leg jeans? I’ve found that not just any shoe will do.

This year the low profile sneaker is the most modern choice to wear with your full length wide leg jeans. By low profile I simply mean shoes that are not bulky, like the dad sneaker or running shoe. These are still very popular and can look great with other silhouettes, but for the full length wide leg jeans, you’ll do best with a court sneaker (tennis) or field shoe (soccer).

If you need to have your full length wide leg jeans hemmed, I suggest having them hemmed to accommodate your sneakers, then you can probably still wear a small heel with them. We’re not longer insisting on wearing your trousers or jeans to just shy of the ground, and instead a little distance from ground to hemline actually looks more modern. I’ll admit, it’s been a little difficult for me to adjust to this new hem length, but I’m getting there.

Another footwear option with your full length wide leg jean is a pretty flat. I generally prefer a pointy toe or square toe flat with these jeans, but I decided my ballet flats work pretty nicely for a casual and on trend look.

Especially with a more elevated denim trouser, a kitten heel is another great option. You could wear a more casual kitten heel slingback, of course, but metallics are trending, even for everyday where. So why not add a splash of gold?

To style your full length wide leg jeans, wear a top that is more fitted than not. That doesn’t mean you have to wear something tight or even body hugging. But you do generally want to balance the volume of the wide legs with a top that defines your shape somewhat.

If you wear something like a button-up shirt or even a t-shirt, you may want to tuck your top completely or at least in the front to help define your waistline. But another option is to wear a top that is meant to be left out, like the polo cardigan above or the tuck stitch cardigan below. I’d simply look for one that is not too long so that you can achieve good proportions. However, with full length denim you have a little more room for an untucked top that you do with ankle length jeans.

Blessed for My Day
In a world where we are constantly reminded to celebrate diversity, I think it’s important to occasionally remember the common good. Yes, God has created us to be unique and beautifully peculiar people. And there’s nothing wrong with celebrating the way your were “fearfully and wonderfully made” in the image of God.
But if we focus too long on our uniqueness we may lose sight of the splendid things we can do together when we lay down some of those personal rights, desires and peculiarities, if only for a little while, so that we can contribute to something bigger than ourselves. Celebrate your uniqueness? Sure. God certainly does. But don’t miss the opportunities to humbly participate in the give and take of life with those in your family, church, neighborhood, or other group. That’s where truly beautiful things happen.
For just as we have many parts in one body and all the body’s parts do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another. ~ Romans 12:4-5

Love the wide leg jeans and tops. Just think the gold kitten heels look so out of place with jeans and not at all classic. Not a trend for me.
Love this post! It’s helpful to see this silhouette styled different ways, and I’m relieved that I don’t have to wear tight tops with the wide leg to look “right”. I’m going to experiment with some more shorter length tops. Love the pink cardigan with them! And the pointy toe heels look great, too! Thanks Kay!
Wide leg jeans are so unflattering for the body.
Thank you for the printable Fall ‘24 Denim guide, Kay—so helpful!
This series is so helpful
Wide leg jeans are my favorites. I’m petite and I don’t think they overwhelm me at all. I buy petite sizes so the proportion is right on my body. I don’t like the sloppy oversized ones. I style them the way you recommend. I did wear them with a heel but I intend to wear them more casually this coming season. Love the devotional.
Thank you, Kay, for all the great information. It is so evident that you put a great deal of time and effort into your posts and videos. I have just been away camping and have been “unplugged” for a few days but looked forward to catching up with you upon arriving home. I really like the wide leg jeans in the dark wash. Being petite, I think it is very important to wear a top that balances the volume of the legs. Can I wear a top or tee tucked in and bloused out a bit?
This is a silhouette that I think looks better than the wide ankle cuff style. That said, I’m too petite to wear wide leg anything. They swallow me alive. LOL!
