Are you escaping to someplace warmer for part of the winter? Whether you’re a certified snowbird who takes up residence in a sunny location while the snow falls back home or you, like me, plan to escape the frigid temperatures for a warmer week down south sometime this winter, I’ve got a fun capsule wardrobe for you. Depending on your length of stay in that sunny place, add a few pieces from your current wardrobe and you’re set to fly south for a good time. Let’s check out my Snowbird Capsule Wardrobe 2025.

After living along the Gulf in Texas for several years and then dwelling for 14 years in sunny Arizona, I know a thing or two about how to dress for winter in this warmer locations. You can expect lots of sunny days with milder temperatures for sure. But don’t neglect to prepare for that rare frigid blast from the North. The trick is packing stylish, functional layers of course.
Lean into cotton, but don’t shy away from cashmere, especially lightweight cashmere sweaters like these. Start with a couple of easy-to-wear short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirts. Then select a couple of button-up shirts, a pullover cotton sweater or two and a zip-up or button-up cardigan. Depending on the length of your stay, you may be able to get by with just 3-5 pairs of pants, including jeans. I suggest ankle length for warmer days, but include a full length pair for that unexpected frigid day. Throw in a dress or skirt and you’re almost done.
Here’s a shopping boutique with my full Snowbird Capsule Wardrobe 2025. Use the scrolling mechanism to see the whole thing. I’ve made notes on each item to help you see how it works into the wardrobe. Then move on down below the shoppable items to see a few style boards we’ve put together with some of these things.
Create Elevated Casual Outfits on Repeat with the Snowbird Capsule Wardrobe
You’ll be able to create multiple elevated casual outfits on repeat with this snowbird capsule wardrobe. Depending on your location and activities, definitely consider a few other pieces you’ll need to take from your current closet. But the point of this capsule wardrobe is to help you find those interesting, colorful and fresh pieces that will work for the warmer climate you’re escaping to.

Before you head out, try on everything so that you know where pants hit with different shoes, how tops work with each pair of pants and how layers operate most efficiently. Take photos of the outfits you envision wearing and keep them on your phone at the ready.

Alternate between colorful options and soft neutrals. You’re so blessed to be able to get away from the cold and snow for a while, even if it’s just a few days. So enjoy wearing something new and different. You’ll be able to wear most of these as spring arrives, too.

Remember, layering and adding scarves or bandanas is how you create new looks out of familiar combinations. Consider the pairing below. If you swap in the floral bandana and the navy zip cardigan you’ve got a completely different look with minimal changes.

shirt // striped tee // white jeans // sneakers // scarf // necklace // purse
If you enjoy playing golf or being active in some other way, I highly recommend the Endless highrise ankle pants. They come in other colors, too. I especially like the navy, but I included the white here because it looks so fresh with the navy vest and cardigan. That said, go with the color that suits you. These versatile pants are so polished and pretty, you’ll want to wear them to brunch and even for travel and touring. So you may need a second pair! I have four or five…

I pulled together this snowbird capsule wardrobe now because I know that many snowbirds start their “flight” right after the holidays. But I will try to keep it up to date with new items over the next couple of months. I’m going to Arizona at the end of February, so you know I’ll be sharing more warm weather options occasionally from now until then. Check in here occasionally for updates. Better yet, request them if you need them! I want to serve you, so if you need new options for a snowbird trip later in the season, just let me know.

Blessed for My Day
As we approach Christmas, I’m enjoying reading through a couple of advent devotionals. They are helping me to focus on God’s love that compelled Him to send a Savior. It amazes me just how much He loves us. The Lord God didn’t just send Jesus to show us how to live or to clear up our debt. Jesus came in the flesh so that He could die for us and restore us to relationship with Him. Yes, relationship. That’s what Christmas is really all about.
God so wanted a relationship with His creation that He sacrificed His only holy Son for sinful man. Jesus took on the mantle of our stench so that we could draw near to Him. And if we neglect to pursue that relationship as followers of Christ, then we forfeit the true to benefit of His sacrifice. God so loves us that He wants us to spend time with Him, tell Him everything, pour out our hearts to Him. And we are constantly on His mind. Can you even fathom that? Baffling.
How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You. ~ Psalm 139:17-18
Thanks for this. I spend the winter in Florida, so I often just delete posts about winter clothes. We also wear a lot of crops and shorts in the winter.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for dropping in. 🥰
Tu for the snowbird capsule wardrobe. Please do more styling for warm weather during the winter. I spend 6 mos in Florida every year. Now that my NY wardrobe is so much nicer (thanks to you) I want to update my Florida wardrobe when I get down there in January. You have really helped me dress with updated style. Last night I wore the Lands End pullover and plaid shirt with the ruffle neck and sleeves with green cords to a dinner. I received so many compliments! I confessed that I copied the whole outfit from one of ur posts. I do that a lot!
Ahh, that’s lovely. I’m sure I’ll do st least a few more posts with warm weather outfits and ideas during the winter. Have a lovely time in Florida. 😊
My husband will be retired this Jan. a year now. We haven’t even thought of going away South but it does sound nice. Right now I’m just wanting snow. Lol We live in NW Oregon and rarely get it and when we do it’s a welcome sight and doesn’t stay very long. It’s just so pretty and calming and things slow down here when it snows. We are at the stage in life we don’t have to go out in it if we don’t want to, so a few days snow bound is good with me. Where in Arizona do you go? Do you go where you use to live? Do you plan to retire where you are now? Any plans to move? Just wondered if you’d go back to where your daughter and parents are?
We hadn’t been back until last February. We went to Tucson mainly but did drive down to Sierra Vista, where we used to live, as well as Bisbee and Tombstone. But this year we plan to split our time between Tucson and maybe Sedona. We prioritize seeing some basketball and baseball games at University of Arizona in Tucson. 😉
We have no idea about where we will retire really. But unless the Lord has other plans, we will not be moving to the Atlanta, Georgia, area where my family lives. We just can’t stand the traffic there. We really love Cincinnati, so we may just stay here or move closer to where our son lives in Columbus. We’ve decided not to worry about that right now, and trust that the Lord will open doors and direct our path when it’s time.
I hope you get that snow. We’re getting more in the next couple of days. 🥰
Great ideas! We’re going to Vietnam and Cambodia for one month in February. It’s going to be a challenge to pack for it since the climates will be so different where we’re traveling. Much warmer of course, as we travel south through Vietnam. On top of that, we’ll be on a cruise for part of that trip so I need polished and elevated outfits for dinners aboard. You did give me some good ideas though. Loving retirement!
That sounds like an amazing trip. We love cruise and land combos like that. And I know Vietnam is going to be so interesting. My daughter-in-law is Vietnamese and her parents have been back a couple of times and are going again soon. They love visiting there.
Oh you’re making me even more excited for that trip. I wonder what part of Vietnam they visit? Hope you have a great Christmas and a fabulous time in AZ!
Nice spread of options for the warmer winter locales, like So Cal where we live! I have one concern, however. I loved the look of the wrap belt but when I looked it up at Nordy’s, I was dismayed by the negative reviews from customers. For the most part it apparently is sized very small. It is also not of a quality that Nordy shoppers expect. You might want to give that a look. Checking customer reviews before purchasing is a must for me. It is the only way to get some kind of “view” of the product before purchasing something from pictures alone.
Interesting. I’ve had an Ada belt before and really liked it. They generally get very good reviews. I looked over the reviews and one of the 1-star reviewers actually later returned with a higher review. I think maybe some people didn’t quite know what to expect. Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns, so it’s really a risk free purchase. But I certainly understand your hesitations.
